Chapter 2 - Something Is Wrong

(After 3 years, when they turned 16, they once again found nothing on 31st July. So, they decided to meet at Calla's house on 1st August at 1 p.m.)

Calla's House (Afternoon)

(Talia opens the door and enters the bedroom where Selby and Calla are waiting.)

Talia:

"Sorry, I'm late."

Selby:

"Let it be, just come here and sit. Calla has something to say."

Calla:

"Look… it's been 3–4 years, and we still haven't found anything."

Talia:

"Yeah, you're right. I was really expecting we'd get something this year."

Selby:

"Honestly, I've been thinking… maybe we should stop all this. We're not little kids anymore."

Calla:

"Yess, we need to stop this."

Talia:

"What are you guys saying? We had promised each other that we will stay till we get something."

Calla:

"Yes, but listen to me first. We will stop searching for letters or Cookbooks or witches. Now we will first see whether, in the past, magic was existing or not. Because as Sel said, we are not small now."

Talia:

"That's good."

Selby:

"Yeah, we can do this, but don't you think it will waste more of our time? I mean, searching through ancient books and all that."

Calla:

"Yeah, actually I've already searched all that before. And see what I got."

Selby:

"What? You searched it before?"

Calla:

"Yes. Actually, I lost hope in waiting for July 31st and searching for Cookbooks, letters, or witches."

Selby:

"That's wrong. You should've discussed that with us."

Calla:

"Ahh, sorry if that hurt you but I thought, since you both were busy with your own work like you were busy with your extra tuitions, and Tal was busy with her drawing and singing classes — I'd do it on my own."

Selby:

"Ohh… but don't you think you still should've talked to us about it?"

Talia:

"Leave it, guys. Let it be, Sel's. Let's see what Cal has."

Calla:

"No, wait Tal… Sel, tell us what's wrong with you?"

Selby:

"Nothing."

Calla:

"Tell us, Sel. Don't lie — something's wrong. You never shout at me."

Selby:

"Yeah, sorry for that. Actually, I'm dealing with… you know, that time of the month. And I also have my tuition exams tomorrow, so I was stressed. That's why I got angry. I'm really sorry for that."

Calla:

"Ohh, but if there's something, you can totally trust us.

We're always by your side."

Talia:

"Yes, Sel. Even if we can't do anything, we'll try to comfort you and make you feel better."

Selby:

"By the way, you know… after tomorrow's exam, I have a vacation from tuition until college starts."

Talia:

"That's good. I too have holidays — today will be my last class of Drawing and Singing.

But now Cal, can you tell us what you got?

'Cause I have to go to my Drawing class at exactly 3 p.m."

Calla:

"Yes, but I was thinking… Sel's on her cycle, and I have ice cream in the fridge. Should we go for ice cream first?"

Talia:

"What? Ice cream? Yes, why not! Just bring it!"

Selby:

"Tal, aren't you going to be late for your Drawing class? It's already 2:30."

Talia:

"Bro, classes will come and go… but ice creammm…"

(Selby and Calla burst into laughter)

(Calla brings ice cream from her fridge and sits with Selby and Talia.)

Calla:

"I guess we can talk about that tomorrow or maybe the day after tomorrow."

Talia:

"About what?"

Selby:

"Tal the thing Cal found."

Talia:

"Oh yes, I forgot about that."

Selby:

"I guess we should go now. Tal, you're already late, and I need to study for tomorrow's exam too."

Talia:

"Yeah, it's already 2:40."

Calla:

"Yeah, you both should leave now. By the way, text in the group when we're meeting again."

Talia and Selby (together):

"Yeah, for sure."

(Selby and Talia leave Calla's house.)

(Calla, in her bedroom, is writing something in her book.

While writing, she was thinking about the incident — the way Selby was talking.

At that point, her mom calls her name.)

Mrs. Everhart:

"Calla, Calla."

Calla (shocked):

"Yes, Mom?"

Mrs. Everhart:

"Can you please bring some snacks for us?"

Calla:

"Yes, why not, Mom."

Mrs. Everhart:

"Thanks, Calla."

Cafe (Evening)

(Calla walks to a nearby café. She orders tacos and burgers for takeaway. One of the girls working at the café is her cousin Jane, who lives alone. Jane walks over to her.)

Jane:

"Heyy, Calla!"

Calla:

"Oh hey, Jane! How's everything going?"

Jane:

"Nice, but I'm too tired. I'm planning to take a month off and go somewhere."

Calla:

"That's great! Do you have any idea where you're going?"

Jane:

"Actually, I've planned a full tour. I'm going to visit Hogwarts well, the place where they filmed it and Disneyland, and many more places!"

Calla:

"That sounds amazing!"

Worker:

"Ma'am, your order's ready."

Calla:

"Oh yes, thanks! Bye, Jane — gotta go, or the snacks will get cold."

Jane:

"Yeah, yeah! Go! Haha."

Calla:

"By the way, when are you going on the tour?"

Jane:

"Maybe in 2 or 3 days."

Calla:

"Oh, good! Bye!"

Calla's House (Evening)

(Calla's mom and her little brother Cody were sitting in the living room, eating snacks while watching TV.

Calla got a notification on her phone. She opened it and saw a message from

Selby: Tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. ok?

Right after that, Talia replied: Okay

Calla smiled and typed: done.)
