Chapter 9 – Genos and the House of Evolution
While Zenin Kyūjō was still thinking about the Mosquito Monster and the appearance of Genos, an irritating buzzing suddenly echoed through his room.
He frowned slightly. "Tch… a mosquito? Does it think I'm Saitama or something?"
No sooner had the thought crossed his mind than the insect vanished—instantly vaporized by a faint ripple of Starforce energy that shimmered through the air.
At the same time, Kyūjō's body dissolved into a stream of light and disappeared from the room without a sound.
— — —
Up in the sky, a crimson-skinned female monster with a predatory grin swung her clawed arm at a badly damaged cyborg.
Genos's metal frame was cracked and scorched, cables torn, circuits exposed and sparking with blue light. His synthetic eyes dimmed, his internal readings flashing red warnings.
I was careless… I failed to evade. There's no chance of victory left.
Forgive me, Doctor…
There's only one option now—self-destruction.
Though his face remained calm, Genos had already made up his mind.
The energy core in his chest flared with a blinding blue glow, charging for a final detonation.
But just before the monster's claws reached him—
A streak of light fell from above.
A single kick smashed into the monster midair, obliterating her in an instant.
A spray of red mist burst outward like crushed tomatoes, dyeing the sky in crimson for a brief moment before the wind scattered it across the ruined city below.
Kyūjō hovered calmly in the air, reaching out to grab the falling Genos. With practiced ease, he carried the battered cyborg to the rooftop of a nearby building and set him down gently.
Genos stared at him in stunned silence, processing what had just happened. Kyūjō cleared his throat lightly and spoke in a calm voice, "Hey there. My name's Zenin Kyūjō. You alright?"
Genos remained silent for a moment before leaning against the wall for support, struggling to his feet.
Then, with a deep, respectful bow, he replied earnestly, "Hello. I am Genos. Your strength is incredible… Please, make me your disciple!"
Kyūjō chuckled softly. He didn't answer immediately—instead, he asked, "Why do you want to be my disciple? You seek power, right? But you're a cyborg, while I'm just an ordinary human. Don't you think my methods might not apply to you?"
Genos bowed even deeper, his voice firm and unwavering.
"Because your power surpasses anything I've ever seen! Not just among humans—even monsters and other entities can't compare!"
"I have a reason—a mission—for pursuing strength. When I was fifteen, my hometown was destroyed by a rampaging cyborg. Since that day, I vowed to become powerful enough to destroy him."
"Your power… it's beyond imagination. Please, allow me to follow you. I want to become that strong!"
"Hm…" Kyūjō rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
Saitama's been pretty busy lately… Maybe I should help him out and take this kid under my wing.
Besides, Kyūjō found himself liking Genos already—his sincerity, his drive, and even his stoic manner.
After a brief moment of consideration, Kyūjō smiled and placed a hand on Genos's shoulder.
"Alright then. I accept. From this day onward, you're my first disciple in this world… and probably the only one."
"Thank you, Sensei! I swear I'll follow every teaching you give me!" Genos's voice boomed with excitement—so much that a small burst of oil spurted from a cracked line in his neck.
Kyūjō couldn't help but laugh, shaking his head. "Easy there, Genos. If you get too excited and leak out all your oil, you'll die before your training even starts, you know?"
Genos lowered his head, analyzing his system readouts before replying,
"For now, I can still function. As long as I avoid combat, my remaining energy should last for a few more days."
"In that case…" Kyūjō tilted his head. "Should I take you to a hospital? Or maybe a lab or repair shop?"
Genos shook his head firmly. "Thank you, Sensei. That won't be necessary. I've already transmitted a distress signal. Doctor Kuseno—my creator—will dispatch a retrieval unit soon."
"Oh, I see. Alright then." Kyūjō nodded and took out a small notepad. "Here's my address. Once you're repaired, come find me."
With that, he handed Genos the note, then disappeared soundlessly into thin air, leaving only a faint shimmer of light where he stood.

The Next Morning
Genos stood at the doorstep of Zenin Kyūjō's home.
When the door opened and Kyūjō saw him again—his body now fully restored, gleaming with advanced new components—he nodded approvingly.
"Genos, looks like your repairs went perfectly. Doctor Kuseno really is a genius."
He stepped aside to let him in, closing the door behind them.
"So, have you eaten breakfast yet? Wait—actually, can you even eat human food?"
The ever-polite Genos answered in his usual serious tone,
"I can, Sensei. However, normal food doesn't meet my energy requirements. I only eat to simulate the experience. If your household lacks sufficient supplies, I can refrain from consuming anything."
Kyūjō chuckled. "That's fine. Don't worry about it. If there's one thing your teacher never runs out of, it's food. Come on—sit down. Let's eat."
Just as they were about to start breakfast, a knock came from the door, followed by the sound of slow, sleepy footsteps.
"Sensei, allow me to answer it," Genos said courteously before heading to the entrance.
Kyūjō called out casually, "That'll be my friend. Go ahead and let him in."
— — —
The dining table carried a warm, relaxed air.
Saitama, looking as plain and expressionless as always, sat down across from Genos. His eyes drifted toward the young cyborg before turning to Kyūjō.
"Hey, Kyūjō. Who's this guy? Your friend?" he asked with his usual dull, curious tone.
Chewing on his breakfast, Kyūjō answered calmly,
"His name's Genos. He's my new disciple. Oh, and if you have some free time, Saitama, maybe you can help train him too."
Then he turned to Genos.
"Genos, this is Saitama. His power rivals mine. If you ever get the chance, you can learn a lot from him too."
"Alright, now let's eat before it gets cold."
— — —
Saitama gave Genos a lazy nod from across the table, then immediately focused on his meal, devouring it at his usual absurd pace.
But Kyūjō's earlier words had already detonated inside Genos's mind like a bomb.
This bald man…
He looks so ordinary, so plain… yet Sensei says his power equals his own?
Logically, it seemed impossible. But Genos had absolute faith in his teacher's words.
Could this man named Saitama truly be that strong?
The thought sent an involuntary thrill through his mechanical body—the spark of curiosity, awe, and ambition all igniting at once.
— — —
After finishing breakfast, Saitama let out a long yawn and stretched his arms lazily before heading back to his house next door.
He didn't have as much free time as before. His patrols now spanned three major cities, and each day was packed with activity.
Yet strangely enough, Saitama didn't seem to mind. The recognition from citizens—and even the growing "Support Groups" dedicated to him—made him feel lighter somehow… maybe even proud.
Being a hero like this... actually feels pretty nice.
But just as he was about to leave, Zenin Kyūjō suddenly spoke, his tone quiet yet serious.
"Saitama… what kind of hero do you think you've become now? Is it the kind you once imagined?"
Saitama scratched his bald head, pausing for a moment before replying casually,
"I became a hero for fun, you know? Helping people feels good. Even if no one notices, that's fine too. But… yeah, being acknowledged like this isn't bad either."
Kyūjō smiled faintly, nodding in understanding.
"If you're satisfied, then that's enough for me. At least I didn't interfere too much in your life."
Once Saitama left for patrol, suiting up in his familiar yellow outfit, a new disturbance began to unfold.
Far away, a group of monsters from the House of Evolution was advancing toward Z-City.
Their objective was clear: capture Zenin Kyūjō—the man who had defeated the Mosquito Monster with a single strike.
A human who possessed that kind of power was far too valuable to ignore. To the House of Evolution, he was the perfect test subject for their biological experiments.
— — —
The House of Evolution—a secret organization founded by the genius scientist, Dr. Genus.
Though he was over seventy years old, he had long since conquered aging through genetic manipulation and artificial evolution.
By cloning himself, he ensured that his research could continue indefinitely, unhindered by time or mortality.
Their scientific capacity was extraordinary—especially in the field of biology.
Globally, Dr. Genus was recognized as one of the greatest minds alive.
He was the first to propose the theory of the "Biological Limiter", and as its creator, Zenin Kyūjō had quietly been observing the organization's experiments for some time.
Even if they hadn't come for him… Kyūjō would have sought them out eventually.
— — —
That morning, in Kyūjō's living room, he sat cross-legged on the carpet, facing Genos.
"Sensei," Genos began seriously, kneeling in front of him, "how can I become as strong as you?"
Kyūjō chuckled softly, shaking his head. "Genos, that's probably the hardest question anyone's ever asked me. Honestly… I don't really know. Even I'm not entirely sure where my power comes from."
He folded his arms and leaned back slightly.
"And besides, you're rushing things. Do you even realize how much power I actually possess?"
"But, fine… let's start from the basics. I might not know how to make you as strong as me, but I can definitely help you become much stronger than you are now."
Genos nodded quickly, eyes burning with motivation. "What should I do, Sensei?"
Kyūjō smiled faintly, standing up and gesturing toward the door.
"Don't worry. The opportunity to grow stronger has already arrived. Come with me."
— — —
When they stepped outside, Genos stopped abruptly, his sensors flaring.
"Sensei, I detect multiple biological entities approaching at high speed."
Kyūjō simply nodded, saying nothing. Then he threw a single punch into the empty air ahead.
The next instant—
A massive green mantis monster slammed straight into his fist.
Crack!
Green blood splattered everywhere, along with shredded organs and chitin fragments scattering across the yard.
Using a thin layer of Starforce energy, Kyūjō formed a barrier to block the mess from touching him.
He turned calmly toward Genos. "There's a mechanical gorilla coming from behind. Take care of it."
"Yes, Sensei!" Genos responded firmly. Flames erupted from his feet as he blasted backward at full speed.
— — —
Left alone, Kyūjō faced the rest of the monsters without even breaking a sweat.
He dispatched every member of the House of Evolution's assault team—Kamakyuri, Frog Man, Slugerous, and even the Beast King—with a few effortless movements.
None survived more than a single strike.
— — —
Meanwhile, at the back of the compound, Genos cornered the massive robotic gorilla pinned against a wall. His palms glowed orange-hot, ready to unleash a plasma blast.
"Answer my questions honestly, or I'll incinerate you on the spot," he said coldly.
The gorilla, however, sneered. "You? Don't make me laugh, tin man. I'm only ranked third in the House of Evolution. The Beast King—our Rank Two warrior—will tear you both apart."
At that exact moment, Zenin Kyūjō appeared behind him, tossing something onto the ground.
The Beast King's head rolled to a stop right in front of the gorilla's feet.
The gorilla froze.
Its artificial pupils dilated.
Then, in a complete shift of tone, it dropped to its knees, trembling.
"W-Wait! Please don't kill me! I'll tell you everything! Anything you want to know about the House of Evolution—I'll cooperate! Just… don't destroy me!"
Kyūjō replied casually, his expression unreadable.
"I'm not particularly interested in the details. Just lead us to your headquarters. Genos, do you have any questions?"
Genos nodded. "Yes, Sensei."
He stepped forward and began questioning the gorilla about the organization's internal structure and robotics systems, while Kyūjō quietly listened.
— — —
At the same time, deep within the House of Evolution's main facility, panic broke out among the clones of Dr. Genus.
The transmission from their gorilla operative had already arrived—
The entire strike team had been annihilated, including their two elite fighters, the Beast King and the Gorilla Unit.
"What should we do now?!"
"They're coming here!"
"If they reach the lab, all our research will be destroyed!"
"Silence!" barked the original Dr. Genus, slamming the table with a resounding thud.
"Have you all forgotten? We still have our ultimate weapon… Ashura Carnage Kabuto!"
The clones stiffened immediately, their faces pale.
"No… that's too dangerous!"
"He could kill all of us if he breaks loose!"
Dr. Genus glared at them. "Beast King and Gorilla are already dead. If we don't unleash Carnage Kabuto, what else can stop them?!"
"Prepare every trap in the upper levels of the headquarters. If the traps fail… then we'll have no choice but to release him."
— — —
Hours later, the trembling gorilla led Zenin Kyūjō and Genos to the towering steel structure of the House of Evolution's surface base.
"This is it," the gorilla muttered nervously. "The entrance to the facility… Can I go now?"
Kyūjō gave him a sidelong glance.
"Genos," he said calmly, "destroy the building."
"Yes, Sensei."
Without hesitation, Genos raised his palm and unleashed a blinding explosion.
The building disintegrated in seconds, its walls reduced to molten metal.
Without a word, Kyūjō stepped forward through the rising smoke, grabbed a section of the shattered floor, and effortlessly lifted a massive steel plate aside—revealing a hidden passage beneath.
The real headquarters of the House of Evolution awaited below.
