Chapter 2 - chapter 2: try to understand the system functions

Chapter 2

The first thing I feel as I wake up is the grass brushing against my skin. I sit up and scan my surroundings.

A quiet open field.

In the distance — a massive tower piercing the sky, surrounded by a city.

Orario. Probably ten miles away.

How do I know that?

No clue it Just a gut feeling.

Or maybe the system shoved the info in my head without asking.

I glance down: basic leather armor on my chest, arms, and legs. A small round shield is strapped to my left arm. Beside where I woke up — a short sword.

Great A short sword.

Good control, especially in narrow dungeon spaces.

I pick it up and start walking, the grass crunching beneath my boots.

Then — thump.

A small bag lands in front of me. I crouch down, open it, and find it full of valis.

Nice. At least I won't be spending my first night here starving.

Still, I should probably check the currency's value before someone rips me off.

Magic or not, every world's got its share of con artists.

As I think about my next step, shouting echoes from up ahead. I glance up.

A line is forming at the city gates. Someone's getting caught smuggling… something. Probably illegal.

Rough day for him.

I join the line. When my turn comes, an old man with tired eyes walks over.

"Got any identification?" he asks.

I shrug, keeping a straight face. "Lost it in a drinking bet."

He gives me a long, annoyed look — the kind that says I'm not the first idiot to use that excuse today.

"Not my problem," he mutters. "You can enter. Next time, make it more believable."

Cool guy. I should probably try to make friends with him later. I mentally note that down and head inside.

Once I'm in the outer district, I take it slow, mapping the area in my head. A few streets down, I spot an inn symbol carved above a door. I head straight for it.

An elderly lady greets me with a nod.

"I'd like a room," I say, flashing my best smile.

"Simple one-bed room, bucket, and toilet. 100 valis per night," she replies.

...A bucket? Seriously?

Then again, this is an old-world setup. I'll have to get used to it.

"I'll take five nights," I say. "With breakfast."

She nods. "That'll be 750 valis."

I hand over the money and head to my room. The moment I see the bed, I collapse onto it like a sack of potatoes.

Flat on my back, I stare at the ceiling.

One word floats in my head: System.

To my surprise, it responds.

I hover over the options, absorbing each detail.

The elf race catches my eye — long lifespan, bonus stats. Tempting.

Especially the idea of being an elf mage…

Maybe even trying to flirt with a certain green-haired royal elf in a simulation.

Okay, decision made — but I'll save that for tomorrow.

Right now… sleep.
