Chapter 142 - Side story (9) - Heart's Mirror

The next day,

"Very good, now extend the scale and imagine them turning into a shield that looks like a wing," Elia was instructing Rhaenys in magical training.

Rhaenys concentrated on her hand, which had dragon-like scales on it. The scales started rippling and morphing as spikes protruded from them. After about a minute, the scales dissipated, and Rhaenys sat on the ground in exhaustion.

"Her and Aegon's magic seem different from yours," Ra observed, receiving a nod from Elia.

"Their magic seems to be coming from a connection they have made with something recently," Elia said with a sigh.

"By the looks of the scales, the 'something' must be a Wyvern," Ra speculated and picked Rhaenys up in his arms when she spread her arms toward him. Rhaenys wrapped her arms around Ra and placed her head on his shoulder as she rested on him.

"How is that possible?" Elia muttered, more to herself.

"Well, there are a lot of Wyverns in Nightshade, and now that they have a connection to Nightshade through me, they must have bonded with one through a dream, or maybe it hatched the same time as the connection was formed," Ra speculated as he gently swayed Rhaenys.

"Wouldn't that mean previously other Targaryens may have formed bonds with Wyverns from Nightshade as well?" Elia asked, getting a shake of the head from Ra.

"No, the magic of Nightshade is completely isolated from the rest of the world, and you need an anchor or connection to use it," Ra said, suddenly receiving a kiss on the cheek from Rhaenys.

"That means I am now truly your daughter," Rhaenys said and hugged Ra tighter.

Ra did not know what logic she used there, but he just hummed and caressed her back at those words. Elia smiled at the exchange, and Ra extended an arm to engulf her in a hug as well.

"Oh! I think I found a solution to the Catelyn problem..." Elia said with a mischievous smile on her face as she rested in Ra's arms as well.

"What is it?" Ra asked before placing a hand on Rhaenys's head gently and using magic so she could not hear the next part.

Rhaenys placed her hands on Ra's chest and pushed herself back so Ra could see her pout clearly. Ra just shook his head at her, and she rested her head on his shoulder again, her pout getting wider.

"I created two spells I call 'Agony Touch' and 'Heart's Mirror'. They are not that powerful, but Catelyn doesn't know magic, so they were easy to cast on her without her knowing," Elia said with a grin.

"That is her evil smile," Rhaenys muttered and pretended to be scared and hugged Ra tighter.

Ra chuckled while Elia's lips thinned, and she tickled Rhaenys in retaliation.

"These spells will cause her a stinging pain if she thinks of hurting Jon in any way, and she will feel his emotions when she shows him a negative emotion without any reason. Like the scathing glare she always gives him," Elia added the last part in a whisper.

"Good, she deserves this and more," Ra said with a nod and removed the spell on Rhaenys.

"Finally," Rhaenys muttered and wrinkled her nose at Ra, who responded by kissing her nose.

"Will we go to Nightshade after we leave here?" Rhaenys asked Ra.

"Do you wish for us to?" Ra asked her back with a smile, getting a nod from her.

"As the princess commands then," Ra said, getting a giggle in response.

Ra and Elia knew Catelyn was not an evil person. On the contrary, she was very kind to them and their children.

However, Jon was her weak point, because to her, he was nothing but proof of Ned's infidelity, and Jon looked like a true Stark, just like Ned.

Deep in her heart, Catelyn knew Jon was innocent, but she just could not stop her hatred when she would look at him.

And that was the reason of her grimace as everyone had dinner together.

Ned had made sure Jon was with them during the dinner after his argument with Catelyn.

Calling it an argument was generous, as just after Ned was able to say a couple of words, Catelyn just started hurling accusations at him and stormed out of the room.

Jon was sitting beside Ra as he ate small bites of food and occasionally glanced at Catelyn, expecting the glare she always gave him.

However, he noticed her glares were not as frequent this time, and she would even grimace from time to time.

Jon did not think much of it and shrugged before eating his food with a little less tension in his shoulders.

"Am I old enough to train now, Ser Ra?" Robb asked Ra hopefully, as he did every time they would be in one room.

"Not yet, but you are getting there," Ra said with a chuckle, getting a disappointed nod from Robb.

"Why do you wish to train anyways? You should spend your time having fun with Jon," Ned asked with a smile on his face as he caressed Robb's cheek with a finger.

"Because father is the best warrior," Robb replied as he poked his food with a spoon.

Robb thought Ned killed Arthur Dayne in single combat, making him the best warrior in Westeros as he killed the previous one.

Ned sighed and took the spoon from Robb before showing him how to hold it properly, indicating him to eat with the spoon and not poke it.

Aegon raised an eyebrow at Robb and opened his mouth, clearly intending to set straight whose father was the best warrior, but a light glare from Elia was enough to stop him.

"I got a raven from Jeor. It stated Alysane Mormont will be arriving in Winterfell shortly," Ned mentioned, looking at Ra.

"I look forward to it," Ra said with a nod.

Ned and Catelyn had agreed to foster Alysane with Ra in Winterfell for some years.

They actually welcomed it; Bear Island was prospering, and the Mormonts were one of the most loyal houses. It was a good way to strengthen ties.

Catelyn liked Maege and would welcome her daughter with open arms.

She had enough wits to recognize that the women of Bear Island had no choice except the path of the warrior if they wished to survive.

She would never allow her daughter to play with weapons, however, she thought as she looked at Sansa, who was in Elia's arms at the moment.

She did curse in her mind because of the headache she was having as if a constant stinging pain. And why was she feeling melancholic all of the sudden?

A/n: Elia's magic system is based on the dnd world. As is the gold dragon.

I wish to have all the power stones in the world.
