Chapter 8 - Chapter Seven: That’s Not June

The knocking at the door startled Daniel from a restless sleep.

It was just after 2 AM.

June hadn't spoken since sunset. She'd sat at the window with the doll in her lap, humming something Daniel didn't recognize.

When he opened the door, a woman stood there, hand raised in a calm gesture.

"I'm Lorraine Warren," she said softly. "We need to speak. Now."

Lorraine stepped inside, her eyes scanning the apartment like she already knew where the shadows hid.

Ed followed quietly, his expression unreadable.

Daniel tried to explain. "She's been... changing. Sleepwalking. Seeing things. Talking like—like someone else."

From the living room came the sound of soft humming.

Lorraine walked toward it, voice low. "That's not someone else, Mr. Hart. That's someone returning."

June sat in the armchair, her back to them. The doll rested in her arms like a newborn.

Lorraine paused. "June?"

June turned her head. Slowly. Gently. Like her bones had forgotten how to move.

"You came," she whispered, smiling.

But her voice was not June's.

It was older. Dustier. Heavy with memory.

"I remember you, Lorraine. You tried to bury me."

Ed reached into his coat. Holy water. Blessed chain. Protective sigil.

Lorraine didn't blink. "Who are you?"

June stood, eyes flickering with tears that didn't fall.

"I was his bride. He left me in the fire. You sealed me in the dark. But he's here now. And I will finish what death couldn't."

The lights in the apartment went out.

The mirror above the fireplace cracked. Then shattered. The shards hovered in the air for a moment — then fell, spelling something across the rug in jagged silver:

MINE.

Daniel tried to reach June.

But she didn't see him.

She only saw Eleanor's past.

June's lips parted, her breath hitching as blood trickled from her nose.

Lorraine whispered, horrified:

"She's not possessed anymore. She's being overwritten."
