Chapter 34 - Chapter 34: Allen VS Rudeus, the Proactive Rudeus

Chapter 34: Allen VS Rudeus, the Proactive Rudeus

The moment she spoke, the dirt at Allen's feet was kicked up as he shot forward like a cannonball towards Rudeus.

Then, a real 'cannonball' barrage rolled out in front of him.

It was a dense formation of water balls, each nearly a meter in diameter. They were packed together in the air like blue balloons, forming a solid, spherical 'water wall'. And it wasn't just a thin wall.

The casting of the water ball magic continued, and the wall's thickness was constantly accumulating.

Allen smiled, his eyes narrowing as he rested his hand on his sword.

The wind itself seemed to quiet down.

Quite impressive... but this time, I won't be using only the Sword God Style... Do I need to cut through the water balls while maintaining high speed? And I need enough attack range... Nijuuzan won't do... In that case...

'North God Style—Practical School—Constant Stance, Second Form.'

Debris exploded behind Allen's feet. He kicked his right leg up, his body twisting in mid-air. His blade swung a full circle around him with his body's rotation. As the charged-up slash was unleashed, the wall of water balls was just inches away. He could even see the spots of light reflected on their surfaces.

His Touki was surging.

'Circular Heaven Slash!'

Touki enveloped the blade, and the light from the sword seemed to extend impossibly long.

The water wall was horizontally bisected, and Allen's body shot out from the gap!

He slashed through another water ball that came at him, weaving back and forth between them in the now much larger gaps. The water balls exploded one by one around him, creating flowing ripples on the grass.

Amidst the ripples, Allen stepped on the water and moved forward, his speed not decreasing but increasing.

He looked up at the distant Rudeus, who was continuously firing water balls from his palms while simultaneously bouncing backwards like a balloon. He was using consecutive blast magic spells to quickly create distance from Allen.

No wonder the water balls are scattering. Rudy can't aim properly while he's jumping... The jumping blast magic... he casts it twice during one leap. Once to create a reaction force to launch himself, and a second time at his feet to absorb the shock and prepare for the next jump.

But... it's not fast enough.

The密集 (mìjí - dense) but inaccurate water ball magic couldn't stop Allen's advance at all. His dynamic senses were pushed to the extreme. Each water ball burst futilely around him, turning the ground into a torrent. He, like a butterfly flitting across a lake, maintained his forward momentum, his movements completely unhindered.

The distance between them was now fifty meters!

Seeing this, the distant Rudeus gritted his teeth.

"Water Fall! Ice Pillar!"

Allen instinctively sidestepped to dodge the ice pillar coming from under his feet, but found that no ice had formed there. He looked up at Rudeus.

A massive, cylindrical stream of water was swirling around the latter, and it instantly poured down! The huge volume of water nearly soaked the ground, forming a shallow river. Then, an ice pillar suddenly appeared at his own feet.

"Rock Bullet!"

Rudeus flung out a Rock Bullet that had been compressed into the shape of a blade. With a crack, it shaved the ice pillar into a flat ice floe he could stand on. He then stepped onto the floe and raised his hand, shouting at Allen.

"Rock Bullet!"

Allen twisted his body to dodge, but found that no Rock Bullet had been fired. He looked up and saw that the distant Rudeus had faked the shout and had actually used blast magic. The reverse inertia sent him and the ice floe under his feet sliding rapidly across the watery grass.

He was moving more than twice as fast as with just the blast magic alone.

Allen was dumbfounded.

You can play like that?

Then, a Rock Bullet suddenly shot towards him. Allen deflected it with a single slash. The Dragon Saint Touki nucleus in his abdomen suddenly contracted and expanded, squeezing out a stream of power that melted into the native Touki in his limbs.

He cut through an incoming ice spear, plowing a high wave in the water in front of him, and began to run at full speed. Rock Bullets kicked up layers of dirt behind him, but they couldn't lock onto his figure at all.

His Touki surged wildly. Allen's movements were so fast they almost left afterimages!

In a few breaths, the distance between them closed again. Thirty meters!

Seeing that his Rock Bullets couldn't hit Allen, Rudeus showed no sign of panic. His eyes shone with excitement, and he shouted loudly.

"Allen, watch closely! This mixed magic!"

"Mud Swamp!"

The moment he spoke, a look of understanding flashed in Allen's eyes.

As a reader of the original novel, how could he overlook Rudeus's signature spell? But the current Rudeus couldn't yet cast a large-scale Mud Swamp instantly. In the novel, at the end of his childhood, during his fight with Paul, he had used a Mud Swamp with a diameter of two meters.

Allen chuckled. He swung his sword at his feet. The wind pressure from the blade split the rapidly turning mud, and he stepped onto solid ground, leaping high into the air to escape the swamp's range. He then cut down an insidiously flying ice spear.

He landed on the ground five meters away.

And plunged one foot into a mud swamp.

"?"

Allen looked at his legs, now stuck in the mud, and looked at Rudeus in surprise.

The distant Rudeus had stopped his rapid retreat. He shouted at Allen excitedly.

"My Water Ball and Water Fall spells weren't just for show! Look around you! This is a special large-scale magic I prepared just for you!"

Allen cut down an ice spear that came with Rudeus's words, his narrowed eyes quickly scanning his surroundings.

The area at the bottom of the hill was already a muddy mess.

Rudeus couldn't instantly cast a large-scale Mud Swamp yet. But what if the conditions had already been prepared in advance?

During the battle, the massive amount of water from the Water Cannon and Water Fall had completely saturated the ground at the bottom of the hill. Rudeus was only one 'trigger' away from completing a large-scale Mud Swamp spell.

The entire area at the bottom of the hill was now covered in a mud swamp.

Allen looked at his legs, stuck in the mud, and said nothing. But the distant Rudeus suddenly released a continuous stream of huge ice spears that stuck into the ground around them.

"But!"

Rudeus crossed his arms and chuckled.

"Even if you're trapped in the mud and your movement speed is slowed, I still can't effectively threaten you. All my magic can be perceived by your Water God Style and then cut down, right?"

Allen squinted at him and smiled.

"So?"

Rudeus waved his hand, releasing a fireball that shattered the surrounding water spears. Ice and fire collided, and combined with the thick moisture at the bottom of the hill, it formed wisps of thin fog.

Rudeus lowered his hand and pointed to his own eyes.

"So I'm going to blind your senses!"

He then bent down and touched the ground with both hands, his gaze still fixed on Allen. He chuckled, looking quite pleased with himself.

"Intermediate Magic—Geothermal! Mixed Magic—Dense Fog! O native of this world of sword and magic, feel the charm of physics!"

Allen felt a heat coming from deep within the mud swamp. The marshland at the bottom of the hill began to steam, and soon the surroundings were shrouded in a thick fog.

Tsk, so smug. He's even shouting his inner thoughts out loud. Does he really think I can't understand him?

He rolled his neck, raised his longsword, and aimed it at the squatting figure that was gradually becoming hazy in the mist as he touched the ground. He asked with a smile.

"But with this spell, if the caster is killed while releasing the geothermal heat, the spell will be interrupted, right?"

Rudeus's brow twitched wildly.

"...What do you mean by that? Even if you could get over here, I could still use magic to get away."

Allen positioned the sword by his ear, assuming a throwing stance. He looked at Rudeus and said, word by word.

"The North God Style has a technique for throwing a blade. If this were a life-or-death battle, you would have already died the moment you crouched down."
