Chapter 31 - Chapter 30: The Almost Proposal

Rudra's Plan — Quiet, Not Grand

Rudra never wanted to propose under chandeliers or fireworks.

He imagined something simpler.

A quiet room.A playlist of her favorite ghazals.A string of fairy lights.A handwritten note folded inside her diary. And a silver ring tied to the ribbon she used as a bookmark.

No crowd. No pressure. Just her.

He set it all up in the empty campus library's reading room — the place where they first truly talked, months ago.

And then… he waited.

But she didn't come.

📩 The Letter That Found Ruhi First

Ruhi, meanwhile, had been in the hostel common room when Simran walked in, holding an envelope.

"It's from Rudra's father," Simran said cautiously.

Ruhi's hands trembled as she opened it.

Inside was a two-page letter — written in neat, deliberate handwriting.

Dear Ruhi,

I have remained silent. Watched from afar. Perhaps unfairly.

When Rudra told me about you, I assumed you were a distraction.I no longer think that.

I see the change in him.The calm. The clarity.

You gave him balance.

That said — I do not pretend it will be easy. Our world… and yours… are not stitched the same. But sometimes, it's the threads from different cloths that make the strongest fabric.

If my son asks you to be his future —Say yes.

The rest… we will handle.

— Vikram Sharma

Ruhi read it twice.

Then once more — aloud.

Simran hugged her from behind.

"This is real, Ruhi," she whispered. "All of it."

Ruhi nodded, eyes glossy.

Then panicked."The library! He asked me to meet him after class!"

🏃‍♀️ The Run to the Library

She ran through the corridors, barefoot in her sandals, heart thudding louder than her footsteps.

Her dupatta flew behind her like a banner of urgency.

By the time she reached the library, the door was closed.

But the light was still on.

She pushed it open slowly.

📚 The Almost Proposal

The room was filled with candles.

Soft ghazals played from a tiny speaker in the corner. Her diary sat on a table, a red ribbon looped through its pages. And beside it — the ring.Delicate. Elegant. Silver.

But Rudra…

Was gone.

Only a note remained.

*"Maybe the timing isn't right. But the feeling is.

I'll wait until you're ready.Even if that day never comes.

— Rudra"*

She sat on the chair.Breathing heavily. The candles flickered — like her courage.

💬 Simran's Goodbye

That night, Simran packed her bags quietly.

Aarav came by with hot momos in a paper box.

"I wanted to make you something, but… this is the best I could do," he joked.

They sat together on the balcony, sharing food and silence.

"You'll forget me there," he teased.

She looked at him and replied,"I'll write about you in every second chapter."

He smiled.

And then she kissed his forehead.

"Keep rooting for others, Aarav. But don't forget to cheer for yourself."

📚 Aarav's Decision — A New Chapter

The next morning, Aarav walked into the school where he'd been mentoring.

He handed the principal a folder — filled with a full sports development proposal, complete with ideas, sponsorship leads, and community partnerships.

"I'm not just here to teach drills," he said. "I want to build something that lasts."

The principal looked at the proposal.

Then extended his hand.

"You've got yourself a permanent spot."

Aarav smiled — finally feeling like he belonged.

🌌 Ruhi's Reflection — And A Quiet Resolve

Later that night, Ruhi sat under the stars in the hostel courtyard, reading Rudra's note again.

She didn't feel fear anymore.

Just a kind of clarity — sharp, unflinching.

She wasn't scared of Rudra's world.

She was scared of not choosing him when it truly mattered.

She opened her diary, turned to a blank page, and wrote:

"Yes."

Just that.

A simple answer.

One word.That said everything.
