A flood of data slammed into Kitazawa's brain.
In an instant, he mastered Fire Style: Heavenly Prison and Fire Style: Great Fire Heavenly Prison.
Despite being labeled "Fire Style," these were really sealing techniques.
The damage wasn't the main thing—the real effect was immobilization.
Great Fire Heavenly Prison, in particular, was rare—it could actually restrain large creatures.
In the shinobi world, the bigger something is, the harder it is to handle.
Jutsu have range and power limits, after all.
Kitazawa pulled out a summoning storage scroll and sealed away the two bandit leaders' corpses.
These scrolls couldn't hold living people—but corpses were fair game.
After packing them away, he took a quick lap around the bandit hideout for loot, then made his way to the cliff where Mizuki had fallen.
Peering down, he could just make out the body.
Without hesitation, he jumped.
A leap of faith.
The wind roared past him. His hair and clothes blew upward.
As he neared the base of the cliff, he clapped his hands together.
Wind Style: Gale Palm!
Chakra transformed into a cushion of wind that softened the impact.
His descent slowed, and with a quick flip, he landed smoothly on his feet.
He walked up to Mizuki's lifeless body.
In the original story, Naruto's Rasengan rarely killed anyone—mostly because his enemies were monsters.
But Mizuki? Just a regular Chūnin.
A Rasengan to the heart? Instant death.
Kitazawa sealed the corpse into his scroll.
Mission complete. He turned and started walking back to Konoha.
An hour later, he was back.
Normally, a completed mission just meant reporting to the task desk at the Hokage building.
But this time, a teammate had died—so Kitazawa had to report directly to the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi.
"Come in."
Hiruzen looked up at the knock on the door.
"Hokage-sama."
Kitazawa stepped inside.
"Oh, Kitazawa."
Hiruzen smiled. "What brings you to my office on a Saturday?"
"Well..."
Kitazawa laid it all out—starting from the bet with Class 2-A, the joint mission with Mizuki, and ending with Mizuki hiring rogue ninjas to have him killed.
"Excuse me, what?"
Hiruzen's face turned ice cold. "Mizuki did that?"
There were lots of rules in Konoha, but one was sacred: you don't kill your fellow ninja.
Even Orochimaru—one of the Sannin and Hiruzen's own students—was branded a rogue for experimenting on fellow villagers.
Of course, for Konoha's top brass, rules could be... flexible.
As long as nothing was exposed, no problem.
Shimura Danzo had done just as much human experimentation as Orochimaru—maybe more.
But since nothing ever leaked, he still roamed free.
Mizuki, though, had no power or backing.
Even if Kitazawa hadn't killed him, the guy would've rotted in prison forever.
That's also why the system counted it as overachieving the mission.
"Hokage-sama."
Kitazawa pulled out the scroll. "Mizuki's body is in here."
"A body, huh?"
Seeing that, Hiruzen relaxed a little.
Honestly, whether Mizuki lived or died didn't matter that much to him.
What he did care about was whether Kitazawa had lied—or betrayed him.
At Kitazawa's current teaching level, he was basically irreplaceable.
If something happened to him, kids like Naruto would take it hard.
But turning in Mizuki's body? That showed honesty.
Hiruzen stood up, unsealed the scroll in an open space, and checked the body.
When he saw the wound, his brow lifted.
"You learned the Rasengan?"
Kitazawa had "borrowed" the jutsu earlier.
Hiruzen—just like Tsunade—had assumed it was a waste.
Rasengan wasn't something just anyone could pull off.
"Got lucky," Kitazawa said modestly.
"Rasengan isn't something you pick up with just luck," Hiruzen shook his head, then sighed, "With your ability, being stuck teaching at the academy feels like a waste."
"There are plenty of ninja stronger than me in the village," Kitazawa replied, confident. "But when it comes to teaching? No contest. I belong to the school."
"You're not wrong," Hiruzen chuckled.
He glanced at Mizuki's body again and resealed it.
"Kitazawa."
Hiruzen watched him closely. "Per protocol, Mizuki's body will be handed to the Analysis Unit to comb through his memories."
"Understood," Kitazawa said calmly.
"What are your plans for Naruto lately?"
Hiruzen sat back in his chair.
"Guy's got him covered for taijutsu," Kitazawa replied. "But he needs more combat experience, so I've started him on practical combat training."
"Good choice," Hiruzen nodded. "If there's nothing else, go file your mission report."
"Yes, Hokage-sama."
Kitazawa went down to the mission hall.
B-rank mission pay ranged from 50,000 to 150,000 ryō.
Since this one involved two Chūnin, it maxed out at 150,000.
With Mizuki dead, Kitazawa kept the whole payout.
Hey, even crumbs add up.
He had a decent amount saved up already—thanks in large part to Hinata Hyuga—but that wasn't a reason to turn down 150,000.
He shook his head with a smile and left the Hokage building.
"You're back? Are you okay? Hurt anywhere?"
Kurenai hit him with the rapid-fire questions.
"Do I look hurt?"
Kitazawa spread his arms, smiling.
"Mizuki didn't attack you?"
"Not only did he come after me, he brought two rogue Chūnin with him. All three? Dead."
"Serves them right," Kurenai snorted. "I'm just glad you're okay."
"I already turned Mizuki's body in," Kitazawa added, poking her cheek. "It's over. Let it go."
"Mm," Kurenai nodded.
"I'm off to study. Let me know when Tsunade gets here."
Kitazawa headed upstairs.
Half the two-week deadline had passed. He still had half the reading to do.
If he didn't hustle, he might miss Tsunade's assignment.
…
The next day—Sunday
Kitazawa thought it'd be another chill day—reading or talking jutsu with Tsunade.
Then a visitor knocked.
"Kitazawa."
It was Anbu operative Haru. "Hokage-sama wants to see you."
Wait—did the Mizuki thing leak?
No, couldn't be. He only acted in self-defense.
If he were in trouble, Haru wouldn't be this polite. He'd already be in cuffs.
"Alright."
He closed the door and followed Haru to the Hokage's office.
"Kitazawa," Hiruzen said, "The Analysis Unit reviewed Mizuki's memories. It's clear—he brought this on himself."
"Good."
That sealed it—Mizuki was officially history.
"Mizuki was Class 2‑A's homeroom teacher," Hiruzen continued. "Now that he's gone, who do you think should take over?"
"That's up to you, Hokage-sama."
"Could you cover the role?"
Kitazawa blinked, then quickly shook his head. "Sorry, I'm already focused on Class 1‑A. I don't have the time."
Of course, time wasn't the issue. It was about benefits.
His system recognized him as Class 1‑A's teacher.
If he switched classes, the dumb system might think he transferred.
He'd lose students like Naruto and Sasuke—his prime mission triggers.
"I know you're busy. It's just a dual role," Hiruzen said. "We're assigning a new teacher to 2‑A—his name's Terai."
Terai? Kitazawa paused. The name sounded familiar.
Then it hit him—Terai was from Root. In the original timeline, he only showed up once—when Danzo sent him to hunt Kabuto.
A coincidence?
"I'll be straight with you—he's from Root," Hiruzen confirmed.
"Danzo wanted him to replace you in 1‑A, but I blocked it. Instead, I assigned him to 2‑A citing a staff shortage."
Kitazawa rubbed his temples. This was gonna be a headache.
"Don't worry. I'm still in charge of the academy," Hiruzen reassured.
He knew how feared and hated Danzo was in the village.
"Your job's simple—keep an eye on Terai. Once Danzo realizes he's not getting anywhere, he'll pull him back."
"Understood, Hokage-sama," Kitazawa nodded.
There wasn't any real danger here.
As overbearing as Danzo was, Hiruzen still outranked him.
Besides, Kitazawa figured he wasn't Danzo's actual target.
Most likely, it was Yakumo Kurama.
Her genjutsu was too powerful.
And with her clan already in decline, she was easy for Danzo to manipulate.
Just as Kitazawa turned to leave, four lines of glowing text popped up in front of him:
[A true genius dominates the Ninja Academy. Class 2‑A is your first step.]
[Current Mission: Defeat Class 2‑A's top student, Neji Hyuga.]
[Reward: +10% Byakugan Purity?
[Accept?]
Kitazawa froze.
This counts as a mission too?!
