Chapter 22 - Chapter 21: Break Day

Other than the huge arena and the Hall of Fame, Paradise Island is just a regular luxury resort. Many fighters will usually spend their time outside, relaxing in the sun, but of course there are exceptions. Jack and Leonardo have decided to check out the Hall of Fame. The halls are decorated with large stone statues. On one side, the previous winners of the tournaments, held by the Paraiso Organization and on the other, notable fighters in the organization. At the end of the hall is a wide room with even larger, gold-painted statues of the winners of the past Paraiso Grand Tournaments. Of course, there are other people there, be they fighters or just regular rich people admiring the artwork. Jack looks around.

"I wonder if they have a statue of Waldemar."

He says to himself. Leonardo is amazed by the number of statues.

"Oh, wow there's one of you!"

Leonardo says, pointing at Jack's statue. Jack puts his arms on his waist, confused.

"Was I really that popular?" "You were a great fighter, of course you were popular."

Jack finds the statue of Waldemar and starts laughing.

"They couldn't have picked a better age to do it?"

Leonardo notices the placard under the statue which reads: "The Oldest Fighter as of 1990."

"That makes sense I guess."

Jack looks around again.

"Y'know, I guess you don't have to be the strongest to be remembered."

He says.

"I know, but I want to be the strongest."

Leonardo replies. The two move on to the end of the hall. Leonardo starts counting the statues and notices something off.

"Wait, there should be eight statues, there's only seven." "Oh, I thought that too when I was a newbie. Look here."

Jack points towards the statue next to Jitae's statue. It reads: Yu Yi, winner of the 6th and 7th Paraiso Grand Tournament.

"Hm, that's cool. Let's break that record, shall we?"

Jack chuckles.

"If it's you, I'd believe you could do it."

The two continue looking at the statues.

At the beach area, someone made the fatal mistake of sleeping. It was Narso, and it seems like Bartolomew and Josol have pranked him and buried him in the sand with only his head sticking out.

The fighters with minor injuries are hanging around the giant pool. The fighters with major injuries spend the break day in the infirmary. There are also many fighters opting out of medical care to hide their weak spots from their fellow participants.

In the balcony of his private room, Punyawit smokes while looking down at the resort. He is covered in bandages. He reminisces about his clash with Leonardo. He remembers how Leonardo was too fast for him to even react to. He has trained his body and mind all for a day like this. Partial training to the point of insanity, and image training whenever possible.

"I will have my revenge."

He mutters to himself before taking another cigarette.

Jacques rests peacefully, waiting to recover, when suddenly he is woken up by Michael Tan.

"Yo, Jacques!"

He shouts while waking him up.

"What gives man?"

Jacques says, annoyed.

"I heard about that whole mainstream MMA thing, I just wanna say good luck!"

He says.

"Oh, thank you man. I hope you're able to revive the bare-knuckle boxing scene too." "Thanks!"

The kids, Adam and Sang, are at the beach.

"Your dad is really strong." "Mhm!" "But like I said, my teacher ain't gonna lose!"

Adam says, splashing Sang.

"Nuh uh!"

Sang splashes back.

Johnny Lewis is seen sunbathing.

"Who the hell brought kids here?"

He thinks to himself.

Back at the Hall of Fame, Henry Ku appears next to Jack and Leonardo.

"If it's not too much trouble, may I have a one-on-one talk with Mr. Wayne?"

He asks.

"Sure. I'll be right back Leo." "Okay, I'll just continue looking at the statues."

The two move to a quiet corner.

"Your apprentice is quite strong."

Henry says.

"He is amazingly strong, and I know he has way more to give." "I see, but I have a question." "What is it?" "Did you seriously think we wouldn't notice?"

Henry says, in a passive aggressive tone.

"…What are you talking about?" "You're using him. He thinks that he'll win, and you think that him winning would somehow make you regain your lost fame."

Jack pauses.

"Was I right? What makes you think you can just enable a kid's dreams like that?" "Shut up, you immature brat. I trained him to the best of my ability. Who am I to say no to his dream? I know I lost in round 1, but Leonardo is not me, my failures are not his, and his achievements are not mine. If, no, when he wins, congratulations, but seriously, do YOU think you can just go around mischaracterizing every man you see? I thought your father raised you better."

Jack grabs Henry by the collar.

"Leonardo WILL win. I bet my life on it."

Jack lets Henry go and goes back to Leonardo. Henry dusts himself off and chuckles.

"Looks like I got it wrong."

Jitae is in his private room relaxing. He thinks about his next match.

"That Qiang Gang Wei guy is going to be difficult. My defense will be practically useless against him."

He thinks to himself.

Jacques too, thinks about his next match.

"There's something off about the Francisco guy, but I'll have to face him head-on to make sure."

He thinks as he starts eating an apple at his bedside.

Elmer Calluen is resting in his room.

"I'll show that old man why he's wrong."

He thinks to himself as he dozes off.

As soon as the day of rest began, it quickly ended, and once more the fighters and spectators gathered at the arena.

"Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen! I hope you all had a wonderful day yesterday! It's time for Round 2 to start, so let's wish our fighters good luck! Have a nice fight, everyone!"
