Chapter 2 - Dear Eva 2

Dear Eva,

He held my arm that morning and gently led me to my work desk. I had been rushing to work so quickly that I forgot to eat breakfast.

I had to stop by a roadside store to eat something when he saw me while driving by. I couldn't believe Kingsley had such eagle eyes.

He insisted on paying for my meal—I had to let him. Then he insisted on driving me to work.

Kingsley doesn't understand he's making me the topic of discussion both at the hotel and the restaurant. Driving me to work would only worsen the situation, but Kingsley didn't mind.

As he walked me to my desk, I felt so uncomfortable with the way he held me—like I was some trophy—while my co-workers looked on.

And when I looked ahead, there was Stan—my morning star—standing like a model, watching us. Now, what will he think? That I belong to Kingsley?!

As soon as I got behind my desk, Kingsley handed me a bag and smiled.

"Dear Eva, I got you a dress. I want you to follow me to a party," he said with a grin.

I was about to say no when he turned to the other workers nearby.

"Tell the others we have a party to attend at HQ. Come in your official work clothes so you'll be identified as staff."

Then he turned to me and smiled warmly.

"But my Dear Eva and I don't need to be identified as workers—she's my woman."

He gently held my chin and smiled.

Oh Jesus! How do I tell this man to leave me alone? Why do I feel like he's doing all of this in front of everyone to mark boundaries—like I'm his property?

Even as he touched my chin, I couldn't help glancing at Stan, who wasn't even looking at us!

"I'll see you this evening for the party," Kingsley said before leaving, and finally, I could breathe fresh air again!

I was relieved we wouldn't be attending the party alone—at least the others would be there. I wondered if Stan would be coming too; if so, this party might actually be fun.

Stan was about to leave when I called him over. "Stan, it's really not what you think…"

He looked confused, staring at me like I was speaking in parables.

"I don't understand. What does what I think matter?"

"Listen, the boss has been on my neck for a while. But I was hoping you could help me talk to him—man to man. Tell him I don't want him." I was hoping he'd get the bigger picture.

"It's your duty to decide what you want, Eva…"

"It's Dear Eva," I quickly corrected him.

He laughed—the most handsome smile I had ever seen, with perfectly lined teeth.

"Why do you insist I call you that? It's only the boss who calls you that."

"No. Others call me that too," I lied.

He smiled. "Alright. Anyway, thank you very much for yesterday. At least I know my way around now, thanks to you," Stan said, his voice deep and husky.

"Stan, will you be attending the party tonight?" That was the real reason I called him over.

He shook his head.

"No, I won't be attending. I have something to handle and I already took permission from the boss. He knows I won't be coming."

Immediately, my mood soured. My shoulders dropped. If he wasn't going, then what exactly was I going to the party for?

"What's wrong?" He must have noticed.

"Nothing," I shrugged him off.

All through the day, I was moody. Even when my friend, Fifi, came to cheer me up by gushing over how adorable Kingsley was, I wasn't even in the mood to tell her to shut up.

My mind was consumed with thoughts of how to avoid attending that party tonight. Because damn! I can't go to such a party alone with Kingsley! If I will go to that party, then Stan must be there too!

I quickly asked Fifi for a favor. I told her I was leaving work early and honestly told her it was to avoid going to the party with Kingsley. Of course, she agreed to cover for me—but only after I promised to buy her lunch. That greedy girl!

I left the dress Kingsley gave me with Fifi and hurried off to say goodbye to Stan before leaving.

But as I opened the door, there he was—Kingsley, standing with Stan.

All eyes quickly turned to me.

"Oh, my Dear Eva! I was just about to come pick you up and personally get you dressed for tonight!" Kingsley beamed.

Oh Jesus! I had just walked right into the man I was trying to avoid. But I wasn't ready to cave in just yet.

"I'll go to the party on one condition, King," I said. He liked it when I called him King.

"What condition, baby?" he asked.

I turned to Stan, who was smiling at us like he was satisfied with what he was seeing.

"Stan will come with us—so he can drive just the two of us while we sit in the back and do our thing," I smiled mischievously.

I wasn't sure Stan could drive—it was just a lucky guess. Kingsley quickly turned to Stan. "Please, Stan, just drive us there and then you can go. My Dear Eva wants me to enjoy her tonight," Kingsley laughed.

Stan stared hard at me before taking a deep breath. "Dear Eva…" he began, but Kingsley was quick to cut him off.

"What did you just call my woman?" Kingsley fired, eyes wide with anger!
