Chapter 1 - Laughter

"Asahi, come inside. The food is ready." I was lying on the ground, waiting for the moment I would finally get that call. It was time to eat. I went running towards the dinner table to my mom. Heart full, feet light.

"Finally, dinner is ready," I exclaimed with joy. I went and sat next to my mom and watched her serve. The smell of the food captivated me.

"Have you been practicing your Ka?" My mom asked. I replied with my mouth stuffed with food. She laughed. I still remember that laugh. Not because it was too loud, but because it was a fire that warmed the entire house. It felt like yesterday, yet it felt so distant. We sat and we ate, and after finally swallowing the stream of food entering my mouth, I replied.

"Of course I did, I want to be as strong as dad." I never met my dad. He died a few days after I was born, and from what my mom told me, he was pretty damn strong. I wanted to be just like him. Even though we were born on the lowest dimension, he still proved that anyone can be strong.

That was the last time I ever spoke to my mom.

The last time the house felt alive.

The last time I ate in that house
