Here's a late chapter as usual. I took the liberty of creating a new oc because I don't particularly like any of Bella's friends. I'm not really happy with this one tbh. Possible rewrite coming soon.

Dimitri curled up in his bed, a sheen of sweat visible on his otherwise flawless skin. Another nightmare, it was the second time now.
He stood alone in an alley. The cold bit through his skin, but his gaze was elsewhere. At a corpse, half buried beneath a pile of trash, discarded and forgotten. It wasn't the same man he'd once known. He was already long gone. Only the body was left.
Through gritted teeth, he called for him, despite knowing he wouldn't answer.
"I-Igor," he stumbled towards the corpse, his eyes wet with tears. "I'm so sorry. Please, please come back!". "I'll listen to you from now on. So come back, please..."
He bent over the body, hugging it tightly, afraid to let it go. He prayed. To god, the devil and to anything that might hear, but no one answered. He cried himself unconscious beside the man who was his father in all but blood. The darkness of the alley swallowed them whole, burying the sorrow in a thin sheet of snow.
Back to his senses, Dimitri snapped his eyes open. Panting as he threw himself off the bed. He stumbled his way into the shower, slamming the door shut behind him. The memory hit him deep. Deeper than anything he'd felt in a while.
He leaned against the wall, turning the faucet till water came spraying at his face. The water was scalding. Still, it couldn't take away the chill that ran through his body. Steam curled around him, obscuring everything within the space.
'Why now?'
He muttered to himself and in that haze, the faint darkening of his sclera went unnoticed.
He stayed there until the water ran cold before finally getting out. He pulled on a grey shirt and got ready for school. It was plain and simple, of course he still put on his jacket.
He could've stayed home, but a bit of normalcy could work wonders if given the chance. He gently ran his fingers trough his hair, styling it halfheartedly before reaching for his car keys.
---
Dimitri rolled down the windows, letting the wind carry in the scent of pine and fresh earth. It nudged gently at his hair, messing it up again.
He took a deep breath, letting the fresh air fill his lungs, letting the calmness of the forest settle in his chest. Then he breathed out, letting his worries drift away with the air. It didn't matter anymore anyway. He'd already left that life behind when he died. He was good at gaslighting, even himself.
The road ahead was empty, despite being only a few miles away from town. It made sense though, considering the overall population of Forks was, at best, around three thousand according to the welcome sign. He didn't know if the 'supernatural' population of Forks was included in there too.
'Hmm, I should look into the Quileutes later...' he pondered as he tapped his fingers on the wheel. It'd been almost a week since he last saw the Cullens.
They hadn't come to school after their, rather fruitful conversation. Though he was sure he handled himself well, without coming off as hostile. 'Yeah, I'm sure it's nothing,' he thought optimistically. They were his only source of entertainment after all. Everything on TV was either too outdated or just plain stupid.
It wasn't long before the tree line thinned, though not by much. Still, it was enough for him to see the faint outline of Forks high through the pines.
Dimitri pulled in beside an old coupe and rushed toward the entrance. Surprisingly enough, no one was flocking the parking lot today. They were all huddled up inside, away from the light drizzle and pungent smell of tarmac.
"Hey, Dimitri!" A voice called from the back. One he'd gotten used to this past week. Thomas Jefferson Jr, or TJ for short. The guy was the outgoing type. He was tall, broad shouldered and had a weird surfer bro thing going on. Which was made obvious by the Hawaiian shirt and blonde hair styled in top knot. Was that allowed? Dimitri had no idea.
"Who even wears shit like that in the rain," Dimitri muttered under his breath, already moving through the crowd.
All things considered, TJ was what you'd call a real bro. And he was entertaining enough to keep Dimitri from skipping school entirely. Which was also pretty big plus.
"Hey man," Dimitri greeted as he went for a light hug. The manly kind, mind you. TJ chuckled, patting him in the back with enough force to rattle a normal person.
"You look like hell, bro." TJ said, squinting his eyes. "Bad night?"
"You could say that, yeah." Dimitri didn't go into the details. He knew the guy didn't have enough of an attention span to talk about anything beyond yesterday's game. And he couldn't explain his situation to anyone either, even he didn't know what was actually going on. There were more than a few times he regretted sending away the system.
TJ nodded thoughtfully before saying , "You should try gooning before bed, let's you sleep better." The worst part was, he sounded dead serious.
"Yeah, yeah," Dimitri muttered. He didn't want to know whatever night time rituals he performed.
TJ ignored the dismissal and motioned for him to follow. "C'mon first period is history. Maybe your widle pwincess is already there."
Dimitri felt his eyebrow twitch, but followed him nonetheless. He could only blame himself for acting so close to Alice on the first day.
---
Dimitri was lost in his thoughts when TJ suddenly turned to him with a smirk that made him feel uncomfortable. "Bro, she actually came. Check there, in the last row," he signaled with his eyes, probably trying to be discreet.
And there she was indeed. After an entire week of absence, Alice Cullen sat at her usual spot. (According to TJ.)
"You should go talk to her, Dimitri," TJ suddenly turned serious. " The Cullens aren't known for being outgoing, don't miss your chance."
"Good luck soldier!" He gave a lousy salute and went to his seat at the front. For all his nonsense, TJ was quite the model student. Just not when it came to academics.
Dimitri went his own seat next to Alice's. Unlike his first day, no one cared where he sat. Maybe except for a few girls who stole a glance at him from time to time. But that wasn't enough to bother him.
"Morning," he said as he slid on to the chair with grace. "Thought you'd left town or something."
"Morning, Dimitri." Alice gave a quick nod, her usual smile softening just a little. It seemed sincere, more than it was supposed to be anyway. And he'd be lying if he said he didn't like it. Though she looked a bit...agitated?
Before he could say anything else, she closed an inch between them. Not close enough to make it weird, but enough to make sure no one overheard. "Meet me in the parking lot, there's something we need to talk about."
Dimitri could only nod at the urgency in her voice. "Sure, I'll be there."
