Onigashima, a small island like Amazon Lily, sits near Wano Country.
Compared to the large island of Wano, Onigashima is like a child standing beside an adult.
No—less than a child, even.
Because all of Onigashima set atop Wano would amount at most to the area of a single city.
Wano has six such cities.
So you can see the size gap between Wano and Onigashima.
Unlike the resource-poor super-island Saint-Ting Island, Wano may be large but its ecology is superb and its resources extremely rich—not only vast gold and minerals, but also abundant seastone that restrains Devil Fruit users.
After Kaidō occupied Wano, the weapons forged from its iron ore sold briskly worldwide.
Even the World Government and the Navy bought weapons and seastone from Kaidō through Donquixote Doflamingo.
Though Kaidō holds the smallest territory among the Five Emperors,
He is anything but poor—on the contrary, he's very wealthy.
Wealthy enough to casually bankroll Doflamingo's research into artificial Devil Fruits.
A single Wano can feed the entire Beasts Pirates.
Few know that beneath Wano lies one of the three Ancient Weapons—said to blast an island apart with a single shot… Pluton.
Though Link doesn't like this island, he has to admit it's one of the best in the One Piece world.
"Link, is this the place?"
Karina—who can grow into a thirty-plus-meter Nine-Tailed Fox—flew above Onigashima with Link in broad daylight, looked at the demon-faced island below, and asked.
Wano has been closed for centuries. Like Amazon Lily, it's famous, and the swordsmen who leave it make great names for themselves.
But the more famous, the more mysterious—like Amazon Lily, it's a legendary island.
So on New World charts, Wano is marked, yet few go there.
And Onigashima beside Wano is the same.
Without Link leading, Karina—far inferior to Nami in navigation—wouldn't even know where to look.
Missing it would be perfectly normal.
Whoosh—
Before Link could nod, a piercing sonic crack rose from below.
A black pterosaur—tiny compared to Karina's beast form—shot up wreathed in the Lunarian race's unique flames, stepping on flame clouds before the Nine-Tailed Fox. Eyeing the black-robed Link warily, it growled, "'Piercer' Link, what are you doing here?"
"King the Wildfire, huh?"
Sizing up the imposing presence that rivaled Charlotte Katakuri—one excelling in will, the other in body—Link smirked. "No calling card, and you still put on airs. You can tell I didn't come here for tea."
"Link, this guy isn't worth talking to. Leave him to me!"
Before King could answer, Karina let out a thunderous roar.
Vmm…
Visible rings of sound rippled from her mouth.
Sonic waves that could pierce eardrums, split skulls with pain, even draw blood from the seven orifices and churn the viscera, swept down and blanketed all of Onigashima.
Among island-nation yōkai legends, the Nine-Tailed Fox is the "white-faced, golden-fur" fox—hence Karina's silver hair and golden tails.
As chief of the Three Great Yōkai, the Nine-Tailed Fox commands many powers.
Beyond wind, fire, thunder, and cloud, it can cause quakes, raise floods, and even unleash sonic waves and plague…
Because the fox—and its human guise, Tamamo-no-Mae—is hugely popular, it appears often in anime and games.
Each work gives it different abilities—some like the legends, some not.
For two years, Link's crew studied the Devil Fruit compendium.
Compared to fiction, the Nine-Tailed Fox of this world matches legend closely; after all, Mythical Zoans are born from legend.
Even so, it's not as exaggerated as in lore—Karina can't drop meteors or spawn plagues.
But she has awakened and mastered quakes and sonic waves over these two years.
In legend, when the fox goes berserk, its nine tails lash and the earth quakes.
One roar unleashes a dread demon sound, howling like a gale and shattering countless innards.
So when that demon sound blanketed Onigashima, the scene was even more shocking than clearing the field with Conqueror's Haki.
"Aaaahhh—!"
Pirates reveling in and around Onigashima suddenly saw rings shimmering through the air; even space in their vision seemed to warp.
The invisible sound bored through ears into brains, making eyes bulge as they clutched their heads and writhed, screaming in agony beyond description.
Those with Haki hurried to defend with Haki.
Those without saw blood flood their eyes, then their seven orifices; one by one they lost consciousness.
Many weaker ones had their brains and organs shaken, hemorrhaged severely, and died.
Crack-crack-crack…
Even buildings, under the assault of those waves, split with countless fissures.
Fortunately Karina hadn't learned to fuse quakes into the sound; otherwise this area-wide killer would have culled far more small fry.
"Roooar—!"
As Beasts Pirates fell one after another to Karina's ranged suppression,
A deafening bellow burst forth, riding a formless shock that scattered her sonic assault and saved many of them.
Then a two-hundred-plus-meter azure dragon burst out from the "eye" of the horned demon-skull island and, in a blink, faced the Nine-Tailed Fox.
Glaring at Link, who had just delivered a show of force, Kaidō—now in his Azure Dragon form—rumbled, "Brat, what's the idea?"
