Silence followed the words that echoed in the underground facility. It wasn't like Long shouted, but somehow, it put them all in a state of blankness.
Long shrugged, pushing himself away from the group and sauntering toward the patients. "Your choice — I already made mine, and I'll stay here and play doctor. As for you, only you can decide that."
"Would you fight for freedom…" he trailed off as he took a few steps back before turning his back on them. "…or stay shackled and hope it'll bring you safety and peace."
Everyone remained silent, staring at Long in utter quiet. When he stopped beside the patient to check on them, one of the men stepped forward.
"What does that even mean?" he barked.
Long glanced over his shoulder, about to open his mouth to spell out the obvious, when Florida spoke.
