Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: I Summoned What?!

My Life as a Background Extra… with Overpowered Luck

Ash's legendary bad-luck disguise starts slipping.

"Okay, class!"Our homeroom teacher, Professor Lint, clapped his hands with a little too much energy for 8 in the morning."Today we'll begin Practical Magic Applications! You'll each try your first Summon Scroll! It's completely safe, well, mostly."

I sighed, leaning back in my seat.Summoning class? Great. Time to be the only person who calls out a rock or a stick.

The entire classroom buzzed with excitement as Professor Lint handed out small parchment scrolls glowing faintly with green runes.Even Iris Velhart, now seated across the room and still staring at me like I was a Rubik's Cube wrapped in mystery, seemed intrigued.

"You may begin!" the professor said.

A kid in the front row opened his scroll. A small, fluffy rabbit with lightning-shaped ears popped into existence.

"Whoa! An Electro Bunny!"

"Ooooh, cute!"

Another student summoned a slime.Someone else got a talking squirrel in a butler outfit.

Then it was my turn.

"Let's get this over with," I muttered.

I unrolled the scroll lazily. The magic circle glowed faintly… then flickered… then began to pulse unnaturally.

"Huh?"Even I sat up straight.

The classroom dimmed.The floor rumbled.

"Wait, wait, why is his scroll glowing red?!"

A sudden BOOM! burst from the summoning circle, knocking over a desk.Smoke filled the room.Sparks crackled in the air.

Then something stepped out.

It was massive. Wings like a dragon. Fur like a wolf. Horns like a devil.

A Myth-class beast.

The room went silent.Even Professor Lint dropped his chalk.

The creature stood there for a moment… then sniffed me… and wagged its tail.

Wagged its tail.

Then it sat down.

Like a giant puppy.

"...Is that a Netherfang Beast?""They're extinct!""Why is it purring?!"

"I-Iris," a student whispered, "do something!"

Iris stepped forward, sword drawn, ready to strike, but the creature growled. One paw casually swiped the air and sent a gust that knocked her back (gently, like a fan).

"I-I wasn't attacking… just testing!" she shouted, blushing slightly.

I scratched my head."Uh… maybe it likes me?"

Professor Lint approached slowly, like someone defusing a bomb."Ash… do you know what you just summoned?"

"No idea," I said. "I thought I was gonna get a worm or something."

The professor turned pale."That scroll should've only produced low-level familiars. This… this shouldn't be possible."

The beast leaned forward and licked my face.

"Yep," I said. "Totally normal Tuesday."
