Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Idiot!

Chu Han couldn't help but curse inwardly. Who was this person? Didn't they fear attracting a horde of zombies with such loud noises?

Stop shouting!

Chu Han suddenly opened his eyes, a savage glint flashing in them, and was about to rush over to gag these people!

But the next moment, the ferocity in Chu Han's eyes was instantly replaced by astonishment.

There was no dim sky, no thick smell of blood, no zombie screams, no severed limbs scattered everywhere…

Warm sunlight streamed through the bright glass windows. Four beds, a square table, and two engineering students in striped checkered shirts were excitedly sitting in front of computers, spitting saliva everywhere, their hands constantly tapping on the mouse and keyboard.

The environment that had ceased to exist a decade ago assaulted Chu Han's eyes. Dirty clothes were scattered everywhere, and smelly instant noodle boxes were piled high. The chaotic surroundings made him feel an overwhelming sense of nostalgia, as distant memories were once again stirred.

Fang Rong, Deng Weibo... his university roommates!

"Why the expression? Did you sleep in?" Deng Weibo, sitting across from Chu Han, glanced up briefly. He had an ordinary face and wore thick glasses with a prescription of over 500 degrees. Later, he awakened his special abilities but died during the zombie siege.

"Chu Han, are you awake? Damn it, I'm not playing anymore, I lost again!" Fang Rong tapped the Q key several times. He had a slightly sleazy appearance and also died during the zombie siege.

Chu Han rubbed his eyes hard. Something in his mind was growing brighter and brighter, making him so excited that his whole body trembled.

If he was correct, he had returned to ten years ago, before the zombie outbreak, when his three good friends were still alive!

Fang Rong closed his laptop: "Chu Han, Old Deng and I are leaving first. It's already ten o'clock. Old Deng, hurry up and pack. We're going to miss the flight!"

Ten o'clock? Flight?

What day is today?

Chu Han jumped out of bed, shoving Deng Weibo aside, and clicked on the calendar in the bottom right corner with the mouse.

"What the hell are you doing? Hey, that's my computer!" Deng Weibo shouted at Chu Han.

Chu Han ignored him, his eyes fixed on the numbers on the calendar.

3 July 2015, 10 o'clock in the morning.

It's already this late?!

The zombie outbreak is tomorrow. The sky will darken at 6 o'clock in the morning, and the sun will reappear at noon. After six hours of darkness, everything will collapse, and the great purge will begin.

There's only one day left. Chu Han felt a sense of urgency, his heart pounding wildly!

"Move aside quickly; I just need to pack my computer," Deng Weibo said, carrying a large bag.

Chu Han stepped aside, swallowing the words that had almost slipped out, and forced himself to calm down before saying, "I heard there's a highly contagious virus spreading recently. You two should tell your families to stock up on food and bottled water. Don't go out for the next few days."

"Virus?"

"Where did you hear that?"

"The news." Chu Han knew these two never paid attention to the news.

"You actually pay attention to the news?" Deng Weibo laughed. "Got it, we'll be going now!"

"Stay safe." Chu Han suppressed the nostalgia of their long-awaited reunion. Leaving Mingqiu City before the apocalypse was better for the two of them.

Fang Rong and Deng Weibo were both from Shangjing. They had already finished their exams and booked flights for midday today. Although Shangjing was densely populated and had many zombies, as the capital city, it was protected by the military, and the number of surviving humans was the highest. It could be said that Shangjing was the safest city among all cities, at least within the first two years of the apocalypse.

Therefore, Chu Han did not say much. He knew the general trajectory of the next ten years, and these two would not encounter any issues in the coming years.

Another roommate, Fan Hongxuan, had already returned to his hometown of Nandu. He died a year after the apocalypse outbreak due to a deliberate frame-up, which had always been a source of regret for Chu Han. In his previous life, he had never been able to uncover the culprit.

Nandu also had a military zone, and it had been protected by the military since the apocalypse began. Chu Han was temporarily relieved, but going to Nandu to find Fan Hongxuan was inevitable. In this life, he would never let Fan Hongxuan fall into danger.

His top priority now was to figure out how to survive this chaos first, then grow stronger. Only by becoming strong could he protect the three brothers from danger; otherwise, they would be doomed no matter where they were.

In the apocalypse, the most important thing was to survive!

After Fang Rong and Deng Weibo left, the dormitory once again became empty, causing Chu Han's heart to race.

Ding—

Suddenly, a urgent phone call rang.

Click!

Chu Han hung up the call immediately, ignoring the three missed calls on the screen, and dialled his home number.

Ding—ding—

After two rings, his mother's joyful voice came through: "Xiao Han?"

Hearing that long-lost voice, even Chu Han—whose heart had grown as hard as iron after a decade of darkness—couldn't help but choke up slightly. His parents had lost contact after the zombie outbreak, and he hadn't found them for a full ten years.

He dared not think about what had happened…

He suppressed his excitement and said, "Mom, where's Dad?"
