Chapter 50 - Home alone

Stepping slowly away from Derek, I stylishly moved to Bonnie's direction, my eyes on Gerald as he engaged in a conversation with Derek. I tucked a strand of my hair behind my ear and shifted my gaze immediately at Bonnie. I pinched her hand with gritted teeth, cocking my brows as I stared into her deep brown eyes. She understood my gestures immediately and she knew I was anticipating her feedback.

"He has no idea who the couples and their children are. He arrived with his uncle, whose buddy was the primary invitee to the party. I suppose his uncle's friend was the one who received the invitation, and they simply opted to accompany him. See ..He has no idea who the couples are or that you and Derek are the couple's sweet teenagers. Problem solved..." Bonnie smiled and shrugged, and I squeezed my lips together, still unsatisfied with the response. What if the uncle's friend is familiar with my parents? What if he knows either my mother or Mr. Walton? And what if he knows that Derek is the groom's son while I am the bride's daughter?

"You don't have to worry,… everything is fine,"

Bonnie reassured me with a grin while I scratched my nape as I gazed at Gerald whose hands were now in his pocket.

"Could you please ask whether he knows anything about the couples? We could try to gain more information from him this way, and we'll be able to determine whether we're truly safe. You know Gerald can be unpredictable at times. He's both lousy and annoying. He might be aware that we are step-siblings and chose to keep it a secret so that he can tell everyone at school. Can you do me a favor and ask him, Bonnie?"

I questioned, blinking and pouting my cherry lips with a cute pitiable smile on my face, as I frequently do when I want to melt her heart or get her to complete a difficult task for me effortlessly.

"Okay fine…" She finally consented with a grin before grabbing my shoulders and saying. "I will approach him and try to start up a discussion. And then I'll bring up a topic regarding the couples with him. How do you see that?"

I shrugged, acknowledging that it was an excellent idea. Bonnie approached Gerald and Derek, pretending to listen to their talk. She was presumably waiting for the appropriate moment to join in their chat. I remained in one location... motionless... i'm still feeling nervous about everything; I didn't feel comfortable about Gerald's presence here which prevented me from wanting to say a word to Derek or do as I please.

Gosh! Can't even do as I want at my own mom's wedding all because of an annoying classmate and an unexpected guest showing up!

"So Gerald! It seems like a coincidence that we met you here.. May I know who your uncle is?" Bonnie asked, darting her eyes and sweeping her gaze across various faces in the crowd, pretending to look for Gerald's uncle.

With a smile, Gerald gulped down his drink before pointing at a man in a striped black suit engaging in a chat with someone.

He had dark silky hair and a nice smile, slightly tall with broad shoulders and studded muscles which strained in his tuxedo.

"Your uncle is stunning," Bonnie complimented while Gerald smirked before shifting his gaze at her.

His eyes left hers and finally settled on mine, scanning me from head to toe. I shuddered a little as I watched him smirk with his eyes on me, studying every inch of my features. His gaze made me uncomfortable and when I tried to avert my gaze from his, he appeared in front of me and held my chin, making my eyes stay on his for a moment.

"You look beautiful," He admitted, his eyes trailing all over my body.

"Thanks," I managed to say with a smile. He kept his gaze on me the entire time and those stares made me realize that he was crushing on me but he just wouldn't admit it.

"Urh.. um." Bonnie interrupted and he dropped his hands down from my chin immediately..

"So.. Gerald. Do you know anything about the bride and groom? Have any slightest idea about who they are..?"

Gerald looked up to face my mom and Mr Walton with creased brows, pressed lips and a confused expression on his face.

He shook his head and responded, "I have no idea who they are.. Just decided to follow my uncle for the event. Even my uncle's friend doesn't have much idea about them.. it's quite complicated and funny isn't it?" Gerald disclosed with a smirk, his eyes on Bonnie as he slipped his hands into his pocket.

With that statement of his, I could not help but heave a sigh of relief. Thank goodness he has no idea about my mom and Mr Walton and the fact that we're their kids.

I know how devastated I'd feel if he had known.

When I realized my mom was peering at the multiple faces in the crowd, I knew she was starting to look for me and Derek. Since I didn't want Gerald to find out that she's my mom, I grabbed Bonnie by the arm and left the hall immediately so she wouldn't be able to find me.

"What?" Bonnie asked curiously with raised brows.

"It's my mom.. I think she's searching for me and Derek.."

I replied to Bonnie as I brought out my phone, wanting to send Derek a message.

After texting him, I looked up at Bonnie whose eyes were still on me.

We had no idea what to do at the moment.. It was all confusing and annoying at the same time. If only Gerald didn't show up, then I'd be able to enjoy my mom's wedding. There's no way we're gonna pull through with hiding from our parents on their own wedding.

All of a sudden, we sawe Gerald approaching us and we tried to hide the surprise on our faces.

"I'll be leaving now with my uncle and his friend. His friend has a flight to catch In the next few hours. We just decided to drop by here for a while.. didn't intend to spend much time here.."..

His statement brought relief to me and I tried hard to hide it from him. We both flashed him a smile and waved as we saw him leaving with his uncle.

"He acted rather cool today, yuuno?" Bonnie turned to ask me and I shrugged before heaving a sigh of relief.

Derek and I went to meet our parents and we both took pictures with them along with relatives and acquaintances.

Within the twinkle of an eye, everywhere became dark as the clouds congregated. It was evening already as fast as the snap of a finger and the twinkle of an eye. The party was all over and people were starting to leave. Bonnie and her mom greeted us before leaving and I felt so excited that everything went smoothly at the end.

My mom and Mr Walton walked up to me and Derek with smiles on their faces.

"I know you guys are aware that we won't be staying at home tonight.." My mom mumbled with a sad smile on her face as she played with my hair, her gaze flicking at me and Derek.

I nodded and crossed my arms since I already knew that was going to happen.

"Your aunt, Caroline, will be staying with you and Derek at home." My mom happily disclosed it to us happily and I grinned excitedly. Aunt Caroline was my mom's younger sister and I love her because of her friendly personality, her Wonderful sense of humor, sweet jokes and stories as well as her love for expensive things.

She's amiable and fun to be with.

She showed up in front of me and Derek with smiles on her faces. Derek doesn't know her but I'm certain he'd love her.

"Finally.. I'm so glad to see you once again Isabel.." she mumbled before squeezing me in her hug.

She turned to face Derek with a smile.. "I can't wait to know more about you handsome,"

She addressed him as she shook his hand playfully.

My mom and Mr Walton drove in their expensive Rolls-Royce which was decorated with fancy colorful ribbons. They would be spending the night at Malibu hotel which was why they asked aunt Caroline to stay with me and Derek for the night.

Aunt Caroline drove us home in her car and I felt tired after all the day's stressful activities. My thoughts went to my mom and Mr Walton..I hope they both spend lovely moments together. I still felt bad about hiding the fact that Derek and I are mates from them. The thought of my mom giving birth for Mr Walton made me cringe and just then, I felt Derek's hands on mine.

When we finally reached home, I didn't bother to eat since I was already full. Aunt Caroline grabbed some popcorn and made us watch some movies with her. Not quite long, her phone chimed and she stood up excitingly with smiles on her faces

"What is it?" I asked curiously as I turned to face her.

"It's my boyfriend.. It's been a long time since I last saw him. He surprised me today by showing up in Riverdale pack. He tracked my location and he wants me to see him at a specific location."

She disclosed and I smiled, feeling happy for her.

"I will have to leave now. I promise to be back. You both can stay alone for a while, can't you?" She asked and I shifted my gaze at Derek, numbness etching my features as I had no idea on the answers to give.

What If she doesn't return? Will I be spending the night with Derek alone in the house?!
