Chapter 2 - Regression!

I don't understand what does brother mean as the key to the battle.

Is my ability that important in this battle? But I can't say that outright, so I asked.

"But how will we save humankind if it's already near extinction?"

"You'll regress."

"What!!!" Regression like in those fantasy novels—is regression even possible?

"I'll use my power to help you regress, so you need power—absolute power—to grow."

"W...wait, brother, I don't even have an average human's mana. How can I even grow? Like, can't you regress and just take my abilities instead?"

Abilities can be stolen by eating the heart of the person, so if I sacrificed myself and let my brother eat it, he'd have a higher chance of succeeding than me.

"No, at first we thought of that solution, but there's one problem: a stolen ability isn't soul-bound, but to truly understand the world language, we need both the dying state and living state; hence, the need of a soul, so we can't do that."

"But brother, I don't think I have a chance of succeeding. I'm worthless, you know." At this point I was panicking.

"Don't worry, we already planned that; just regress and pave the way for the humans" Brother said as he gave me a pill.

"Eat it," he said, and as he said that, I swallowed the pill.

Moments later, after eating the disgusting pill, the status window in front of me changed.

Seeing his stats, Leyn's mouth was wide open, so he hurriedly asked Ren.

"Hey brother, what happened to my stats? Why are your abilities h—" I noticed my brother's body was vanishing.

"Hey, hey, brother, what is happening?" As tears were leaking from my eyes, the moment these stats appeared, I knew that this would happen, but I hoped that I was wrong.

"Leyn, with all these abilities, I hope you will succeed. We seven siblings bless our youngest's success," Ren said as he looked at Leyn with pride and multiple emotions, from relief to sadness.

"Brother!!!!" Leyns's shout was heard all around the last city, yet no one was bothered as everyone was busy fighting.

"Brother!!!" With Leyn's last shout outside the fort, a gigantic lightning weapon was heading to their last defense.

And that was the last thing humanity saw before they were erased.

153 years before the final battle

In a small house

In a small room a young man in his twenties was sleeping on the bed.

When he woke up all of a sudden,

"Ahh wahh whahah," his cry was heard all over the house, yet no one heard it.

Some minutes after crying, Leyn watched the room, and he noticed it was the house they lived in before the calamity.

It was small, yet it was enough for the family of 8. Their parents died in a dungeon, so this house was the only thing they left behind.

But after Leyn remembered all of that stuff, he noticed the picture frame.

His face was there, but his siblings were gone; the picture only contained him and his parents.

"What the—what happened to my siblings?!" Leyn shouted as he went outside his room and looked around.

He didn't realize his status was upgrading at the moment when all of a sudden

"Last stand 100%." A black screen appeared in front of him with last stand.
