Mirana stepped beside her, voice steady. "Our spies report that Lord Vaelrin rallies his forces near the Ashen Fields. They believe us weakened."
Kaerys smiled, cold and deadly. "Then they are mistaken."

"Dragonfire Strike!" she commanded, and a wave of searing flames erupted from her blade, engulfing a group of charging soldiers.
Victory and Loss
When the smoke cleared, the northern forces were in disarray. Yet Kaerys felt the sting of loss—a trusted captain, Daryn, lay wounded, his blood soaking into the ash-strewn earth.
"Stay with me, Daryn," she urged, kneeling beside him. "Your loyalty will be remembered."
