Chapter 66 - The Path Toward Farming Coins

Meanwhile, many screens were flickering in every corner, considerately positioned. More than two thousand students had gathered on the sports field to watch this novel match. Some were watching silently, some were invested and some were whispering to one another.

Under normal conditions, there would be commentary for such a team game event, but this, "Cultivator's Crevice" was a trial version that was not yet released to the public. Therefore, it fell to the female host, for the anticipated commentary.

The contest was still in the early game laning stage, so there wouldn't be any breathtaking fights yet. The female host was hence a little bored while she watched.

"There are too much things in this shop... it's too much to take in! When the camera flashed just now, I couldn't see a damn thing."

"Even Senior Zunhao and the others took a long time to scroll through the item shop. If I had to estimate, it would take me... an hour to before I could get out of the base... the initial amount of game coins is also small, you don't know what to buy and how to save them."

The students were engaged in animated chatter below the stage, and even old secretary frowned a little. "The vast line up of goods could be a real headache. A student who has difficulty selecting would waste a lot of time in the shop."

"But, you gotta admit, it's actually kinda good. With more goods, you would naturally select the most useful and flexible ones, which would test your ability to adapt."

"Yeah... you may be right... Now that I think about it, are there any bonus mechanisms in this event?"

"Mm, yeah. There are some rewards. The first team to destroy a tower would be rewarded seven hundred game coins. The first person to slay a monster or enemy will be rewarded with seven hundred game coins. If someone else, assisted with the kill, they will be divided fairly and accordingly. There's also one other thing... the first person to build a magic weapon, or first item, will be rewarded seven hundred game coins as well."

"If you can take the lead by decisively obtaining these three system awards, the team's advantage would be greatly increased."

Before he finished speaking, there was a 1-UP sound along with an electric effect.

First item!

Following that, Xero's name popped up in the system announcement.

Zhang Xero: First to build finished item, now awarded seven hundred game coins!

The female host straightaway exclaimed, "Student Zhang of No. 90 High School is the first to build a finished item! He gets seven hundred game coins as reward!"

The audience was shocked...

When the image on the broadcast screen switched to the shop's column of lists including commodities, the sports field instantly resounded with swearing.

F**k! Why the hell was there a finished item costing one yuan! Who designed this?!

Sh*t! A guy who hadn't even left base had gotten a "finished" item!? There definitely had to be a bug!

"F**king hell!" At the same time in the red area, five people including Zunhao shouted that in unison.

The cheapest finished item in their team was Xie Zhenyu's Ethereal Vow. They had only needed to conquer two minion lanes to be able to collect the prize money for the finished item! Who the hell knew that some ass face that hadn't even left base would be rewarded!

Must appeal! Protest!

Even Headmaster Jian was puzzled. "...Is there something wrong with the system? Should we pause the competition to check it out?"

"It's not a problem with the system, it's just that Student Zhang's spirit sword is very cheap to begin with." The teacher leading the team, Ancient Relic, couldn't help sighing nearby. "Student Zhang was born into a poor family, he brought a heavenly wood sword to the competition this time."

Headmaster Jian couldn't help the way his lips twitched. "...So, this is your strategy?"

"As for that, I don't know. Perhaps Student Zhang has his own reasons." Ancient Relic shrugged.

As they spoke, the scene on the broadcast screen changed to the column list of commodities and the image stopped on Xero's medium length wooden sword. Everyone was aghast when they looked at its price... this heavenly wood sword which cost one game coin was actually considered a f**king finished item... if it didn't win the first item reward, then there really would be something wrong!

....

Xero didn't think that Kongji would actually be considered a finished item at one game coin. Originally he had bought it out of curiosity, to see how much he was worth, but now, due to a freak combination of factors…

He could feel countless eyes following him steadily on the broadcast screen — this was a feeling he was very unfamiliar with.

This was really too much exposure!

In order to shift everyone's gazes elsewhere, he would have to throw a game later on, make a big fuss of the others to ensure their good development and give them ample opportunity to showcase themselves in the spotlight.

The best example as a support!

Hence, at this moment, Xero decided to refrain from doing anything else. Now that he had a bonus seven hundred game coins, he should purchase an income item and slowly gain experience.

There were a lot of income items in the shop; although he had one thousand and seven hundred coins, he chose one of the cheapest income items that would ensure he remained inconspicuous, then walked out of the shop.

[Name: The Unassuming Black Glasses]

[Type: Functional Magic Weapon]

[Quality: Ordinary]

[Gold Coins: 500]

[Description: Time is wealth and wealth is fleeting! A pair of unassuming black glasses worn by the family leader Wu/when worn; 5 coins/1s ...]

With the glasses on, Xero left and returned to the duo lane, and was surprised that Han Jue had leveled up to Level 4.

Damn it! Too much time in base!

Xero sighed in his heart; he didn't think he was such a sloppy person, but he had far less chances to play than most. Because he was worried that he wouldn't be able to control his prehistoric powers and destroy the system, he definitely wasn't as smooth in games as Zhen Jie and Han Jue, these two fatasses.

But now that he had switched to the new version of the Dao talisman, he can rest easy.

For the next five months, he didn't have to worry about destroying spoons and chopsticks, or his leaking aura in facilities.

During this stable period, Xero could play games at the weekends or find work outside to earn money like kids his age.

But after these five months, and the talisman and dimensional seal weakened… his days of terror would come yet again.

Because the materials used to make the talisman was special, it took a long time for Tianrui, working alone, to refine and advance them. Under normal circumstances, Xero would be able to forcibly speed up time, but it wouldn't have much use, because near those materials, he wouldn't be able to use his strength nor cast any spells.

While he was thinking in his heart, Misaki's voice transmitted to the mid lane. "Classmate Zhang! Be careful! The enemy's mid lane is out to our duo lane!" Members in each team were connected together, and were able to transmit messages to one another.

The duo lane of Cultivator's Crevice was a relatively open space in a reed marsh, which made it very strategic in ambushing and capturing people.

Wearing his black glasses, Xero hid in the reed marsh bush near his defence turret to secretly observe the situation. Within a short period of time, he had already earned back the money he had used to buy the glasses.

"Classmate Zhang! Don't linger on the lane! Hurry up and come back, let's play it safe! There are four of them, we can't beat them!" Han Jue had already noticed that the enemy's bot lane had already disappeared, which meant they were most likely going to coordinate with the missing lane group to capture their lane!

But can we really, really not beat them?

Xero thought about this while cupping his chin.
