Chapter 9 - tick tock goes the shadow clock

I immediately dashed forward and blasted Soul with a bolt. He simply sidestepped it and sighed "that it?"

I leaped at him and threw a flurry of punches. With his hands behind his back, Soul was able to dodge each one of them.

"This feels unfair!"

"c'mon Jake just one hit!" Soul was mocking me.

I attempted that cluster thunder again, Soul teleported away again and appeared behind me. I bring the back of my hand back to try and catch him, he backed away again.

The man was just to dam fast!

Any attack I tried to do resulted in a dodge or a parry.

"They don't call him the best for no reason"

Soul looked at his watch "2 minutes are already up Jake!"

Already?!

I was running out of time, I had to make a bold move.

Think think!

I thought back to his previous fight. The only time he got hit was when…

I remembered Tammi's strategy and came up with a plan on the fly.

I channeled the energy I've been building up into my leg and struck the ground with a thunder imbued kick.

Dust launched into the air and Soul coughed, the dust barely reached the spectators, and I heard them struggle to breathe.

"Ay watch it thunderboy!" Frank coughed. I hope that nickname doesn't become permanent.

Dashing forward, I Punched at where I remembered Soul was, but my fist hit nothing but air. Idiot! I knew he would move he isn't dumb!

Some footsteps pattered behind me, I turned around and blasted the sound with blue lightning.

"So close yet so far!" Soul mocked me, he was hoping to make me more angry, thus more predictable. I can't say it wasn't working.

"Go get him Jake!" I heard Tammi cheering for me. He then said in a slightly quiet voice "c'mon guys support the kid!"

"Right, you got this Jake!" Marion yelled. I could tell the support was mostly pity, but I don't mind it.

I needed all the cheers I could get.

The dust dissipated and Soul checked his watch, "6o seconds man!"

I sighed, well fuck…

I dashed in once again, the energy I collected from moving was making me much faster. As I was charging at Soul, a black portal appeared in front of me.

I was too fast to stop from entering it.

The portal spat me out way at the back of the field, I tumbled to the ground and Soul looked at me with a disapproving face.

It was all hopeless now, I can wave that gift goodbye. Only a few more seconds and Soul will go all out on me.

"30 seconds" Soul smiled "I'm sorry in advance, I gotta keep my stature around here."

"Your fine" I got up and wiped sand off my shirt. I still have one last trick up my sleeve.

I charged my hands with all the electricity I had, they pulsed with energy, and I felt a burning pain in them. I could barely keep them at my chest.

Was touching Soul once really worth this pain? It burned bad. I think my body gained a natural resistance to the burning effects of the thunder it wasn't strong enough though.

I yelled in pain

The spectators had varying levels of looks. Tammi had a wide smile, Marion had a small frown, and Frank had a look of surprise, as if wonder who the hell he saved from that subway.

"Jesus Jake calm down!" Soul's mocking and very hateable mood disappeared for a look of concern "is the gift really that worth it?"

"Hell yeah it is!" I replied without hesitation

And slammed the ground with all of the energy that was flowing through me.
