Alex drew in a slow breath, trying to steady himself. The effort only made the wound at his waist split open again, fresh pain spreading through him making his body feel the burn from time to time.
"Who did this to you Brother Alex? How could he be so cruel?"
Lucy gasped her eyes began filling with tears.
She quickly stepped forward and withdrew a clean handkerchief from her sleeve to press it against his injury.
"It's nothing Lucy, just a scratch," Alex said with a faint smile, though inside his chest a warmth stirred at her concern.
"Brother Alex, don't try to move."
"Let me first wipe it clean and put some medicine on you for it to heal," she pleaded softly.
He gave a small nod of his approval allowing her to tend to him.
When she slid his robe aside what came in her view was his broad chest and firm muscles.
