Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 – First Taste

Cain stood in front of the cracked mirror above the chapel's basin, shirtless, drenched in rain and blood. The cuts on his body—marks from his daily beatings—had vanished. His skin looked pale, smooth, almost too perfect. His eyes, once dull grey, shimmered faintly red in the dim light.

He flexed his fingers. They responded like weapons honed by suffering. His breath was gone, replaced by an eerie calm. The silence of death was comforting now.

But inside him?A hunger.

Raw. Gnawing. It clawed at his spine, pulsed in his veins like venom needing release.

"You are mine now, Cain," Lilith's voice whispered in his mind. "And you must feed."

Cain gritted his teeth. "On blood?"

"On darkness. On lust. On pain. Drink the emotions they once used to break you. Make them yours."

His hand trembled as a strange pull led him back into the city. The chapel faded behind him like a bad dream. But Cain didn't walk with fear anymore. He walked with purpose.

He returned to his school's dormitory before dawn, slipping in unnoticed. The halls were silent, but his senses burned with life. He could smell emotion now—shame, lust, anxiety. It dripped from the walls.

He paused near a door. Room 2-C. He didn't need to check. He knew who lived there.

Riley Carter. The school's track star. The same guy who forced Cain to lick his boots in front of everyone during gym. The same guy who laughed when Cain cried.

Cain placed his palm on the door. It melted open with a soft crackle.

Inside, Riley slept shirtless, muscles flexing with each breath. Posters of half-naked women covered his walls. An ego shrine.

Cain stepped inside.

The moment he crossed the threshold, Riley twitched and opened his eyes. "Who the fu—"

Cain was on him in a flash. One hand around his throat, the other pressed against his forehead. Not with violence, but with power.

A red glow flared from Cain's palm.

"Shut up, Riley."

The command wasn't just spoken. It invaded Riley's brain like a virus. His mouth went slack. Eyes wide.

Cain leaned in, face inches from his tormentor's.

"I used to think you were a god," he whispered. "But you're just a pathetic little toy."

Riley whimpered.

Cain closed his eyes. The pain, the fear, the disgust boiling off Riley's body—he felt it. Drank it. A warm wave spread through his chest, like drinking the finest liquor laced with adrenaline.

Cain's fingers brushed Riley's jaw, soft but loaded with threat.

"I'm not going to kill you," he said coldly. "I want you alive. I want you to remember this moment. Every time you blink. Every time you close your eyes. I want you to taste what it's like to be powerless."

Then he vanished.

By the time Riley could scream, Cain was already on the rooftop, eyes turned to the rising sun. It didn't burn him. Not yet.

The hunger still lingered—but now it was manageable.

He closed his eyes. A smirk played across his lips.

"That felt good," he murmured. "Who's next?"

Behind him, the shadows of five names whispered like ghosts in the wind.

And Serena Vale's voice was the loudest.
