Chapter 2 - 2017 - Ivy Greensburg POV

Ivy woke up in their room, looking around for any signs of life in the deep aqua-marine-colored room. They looked around the darkened room, remembering where they were. Ivy looked at the pictures of their family from over two hundred years ago, before their mother had died. The paintings were perfect enough for Ivy, and they were okay with the fact that they were alone. There were awards all over Ivy's walls, police academy awards, science awards, and even awards that have long since been forgotten. Ivy got out of bed and changed into their daily uniform to remind themselves that they had something to do other than sit in their room and look at the pictures.

"Penelope, Henry, Sophia! Wake up, you have school today!" Ivy shouted as they opened the refrigerator door. They pulled out pancake batter infused with animal blood so they could get their daily blood dosage. Ivy put the pancakes on the stove and cooked them to perfection as the three children walked into the kitchen.

"Why do we still have to go to school? We're all over two hundred years old sis!" Sophia complained as she struggled to get her ten-year-old body to get on the chair. Ivy put pancakes on the plates in front of them and sat the syrup out in between them all. As Ivy finished putting the last of the pancakes on two plates, Vic walked out of his room.

"Morning Vic," Ivy said, pushing the second plate of pancakes towards them as Vic rubbed his eyes. Vic looked down at Ivy with bloodshot eyes. His hair looked like a rat's nest and his clothes were covered in ink and pieces of paper that were stuck on with glue by accident.

"Being a vampire sucks. How are you guys never bored? We've been all over the world." Vic complained while taking a bite out of the pancake.

"Well because there's always new people everywhere we go," Penelope stated, stuffing another forkful of pancakes in her mouth.

"Also, aren't you like a famous writer now Vic? Why do you always hide? Sophia made the necklaces and rings for us to go into the sunlight, go get some vitamin D so you don't look so pale." Ivy teased. They watched as Vic gave them the death eye as well as sticking up their middle finger, then returned to his room.

"Well they're in a bad mood this morning." Henry laughed. Ivy looked over at the three then looked up at the clock, signaling for the "children" to go catch the bus.

"Bye, guys! Have a good day at school." Ivy yelled as they walked out the front door behind the three children. Ivy got in their car and made the same uneventful drive to work. Ivy looked out the windows of the minivan as they passed by gardens in full bloom, trees with blossoms soon to be fruit, and grass plains filled with horses and cows of all kinds. They pondered on their family as they made the drive to the Cork County Police Department.

Ivy laughed quietly to themself as they remembered old memories from the one hundred fifty plus years they spent traveling after the incident, the Greensburg's had traveled almost everywhere in the world, every city, every state, every continent. Ivy thought about how their younger siblings were forced to act like children in public because of their visible age, which would always stay the same. Ivy focused their attention on the police work for the day as they pulled into the station parking lot and into a parking space.

"Okay Ivy, you can do this. It's just work so don't give into any of the cravings." They whispered as they grabbed their bag from the back. They took a deep breath in and out as they walked through the doors of the police station where they had worked for the last 4 years.

"Hey Jake." "Good morning Riley." "Hiya Peter." "Hello sheriff." Ivy greeted, as they walked through the brightly lit sky blue office of cubicles to the forensics lab. Each desk had the special touch of the person who owned the desk. Ivy had put their happy face on and had done this without anyone noticing. Ivy works as both a police officer and the forensics scientist at Cork County because the police force is slightly short staffed, so everyone knew them. They opened the door to the lab and got everything set up for the start of the day.
