Watching the raging explosions in the sky, Macao and the others stood frozen, awe clear on their faces. They could feel the raw, undeniable difference brought by this fusion.
If it were just Natsu and Gray fighting side by side, they could never pull off something like this.
The terrifying chain of blasts continued for dozens of seconds before finally fading. As the roar died down, a lone figure emerged from the dense smoke and landed steadily on the frozen lake.
The elf swordsman no, more like a disposable shield at this point held his massive blade across his body, his steady gaze fixed on Nagrez through the reflection of the sword.

The Dark Magician Girl, who by all rights should have been blasted back into the deck, reappeared on the shore, lamenting her narrow escape.

But he hadn't done it to minimize losses. Nor was it because he pitied the Dark Magician Girl.
"How dare you call me an idiot? Even if it's just a sparring match, you've still gotta stay alert!"
Chase promptly smacked the Dark Magician Girl on the head.
That's right he just wanted to teach her a lesson for being careless.
When she shattered that icicle earlier, she'd had more than enough time to notice the suspicious nature of the ice shards. But instead, she got carried away.
"Ming…" The Dark Magician Girl clutched her head, pouting in grievance.
"Chase, be gentle with girls!" Mira stepped in at once, moving to shield the Dark Magician Girl.
If it had been Lucy, thick-skinned as ever, she probably would have just laughed it off with an "Ah la la." But the Dark Magician Girl whom Chase had long treated like a real little sister was different.
The Dark Magician Girl's eyes darted mischievously, and she spun around to throw herself into Mira's arms, wailing, "Ming Ming Ming! Sister Mira, look what Master did to me!"
Her practiced, pitiful act made Lucy's eyes widen like she'd just stumbled upon a secret side of the Dark Magician Girl.
"That's right, forget about that idiot Chase. Let your dependable big brother protect you instead!"
"Dark Magician Girl, you know I'm always happy to help with that kind of thing," Macao said.
"Same here!" Wakaba added.
Lucy: You're not protecting her at all you're just looking for an excuse to grope her!
Mira didn't need to raise her voice. One sharp, knowing look was enough to make both of them retreat in defeat.
While things were lighthearted and harmonious on the shore, out on the frozen lake, Nagrez had just overpowered the elf swordsman after a series of probing attacks.
As guildmates, they all knew the Spirit Swordsman of Earth's special effect strike with slightly more force, and its indestructibility wouldn't trigger.
The moment the Spirit Swordsman returned to the deck, a new card slid from between Chase's fingers, glowing with the light of a magic circle.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!
Three radiant swords of light dropped from the sky, slamming into the frozen lake. The binding force of their magic instantly flared, locking Nagrez in place.
"The Swords of Sealing Light? This kind of magic can't stop the Ice Flame Dragon's advance!"
At the center of the glowing blades, Nagrez clenched his fists, and a surge of overwhelming magic burst from his body.
Frost crept up the three light swords at once then, without pause, they were engulfed in scorching flames. Ice and fire alternated in rapid succession, cycling again and again.
When the swords' magical strength was nearly exhausted, Nagrez roared, his power erupting in full, shattering the blades into countless fragments.
"Oh, you even used elemental cycling to weaken the seal. Not bad," Chase remarked, clapping in mock praise.
If this fusion of Natsu and Gray couldn't manage something like that, then there'd be no need for Chase to even consider using the Sky Dragon's God-Slaying Magic.
"Hey, Chase! I just felt the magic wave you buried a trap card right under your feet, didn't you?!"
Hovering amid the falling motes of light from the destroyed seal, Nagrez wore a confident, dazzling grin.
"Yeah. So… want to try me?"
Sensing the steadily growing intensity of Nagrez's magic, Chase could already guess the move he was about to use.
"Then you'd better be ready to block it. I don't want to get scolded by the old man later!"
True to Gray's influence, Nagrez wasn't as recklessly destructive as Natsu though his power was no less overwhelming.
After speaking, he inhaled deeply, leaning back slightly, his cheeks swelling with condensed magic energy.
Meanwhile, his hands moved quickly, forming the precise patterns of Ice-Make Magic.
From a distance, the stance looked almost comically awkward… but the Fairy Tail mages watching didn't so much as blink. Instead, their eyes went wide in dawning horror.
"No… no way. You're not going to use that move on me?!"
"Stop it! No, Natsu No, Gray No, Nagrez! You'll blow the new guild to pieces!!"
"Oi~ Don't panic, Chase is here!"
"Then get down here and stop it, you stupid cat!!"
Amid the frantic shouting, Nagrez stomped down hard, conjuring a dazzling magic circle of ice and fire, its twin patterns intertwined like a chain.
"Ice Flame Dragon's "
He suddenly threw his head forward, unleashing all the magic energy stored within his mouth.
"ROAR!!!"
BOOM!!
An avalanche of destruction followed ice swords, ice axes, ice hammers
The icy breath carried with it countless jagged ice constructs, merging into a devastating torrent that ripped through the air straight toward the shore where Chase stood.
Wherever it passed, the moisture in the air froze solid, blanketing the scenery in white as though a blizzard had descended in an instant.
At that moment, Chase flipped the card beneath his feet.
Holy Shield – Mirror Force!
Radiant holy light wove together and expanded, forming an indestructible barrier of pure energy directly in front of him.
Whsshh! WHSSHH!
The torrent of ice slammed hard against the divine shield, each massive ice construct following close behind and crashing into it with bone-jarring force.
The first wave of impact was successfully blocked, but the temperature on the shore plummeted. Even the surface of the holy shield was quickly coated in a thick layer of crystalline frost.
Before Lucy and the others could breathe a sigh of relief having already backed more than ten meters away a sudden spark flared at the heart of the frost storm.
The next instant, fire roared to life, shooting high into the sky!
Just like the earlier ice-shard bombs, the ice that should have opposed the flames instead became a fuel source, magnifying the Fire Dragon's Roar to several times its normal power.
BOOM!!!
A horizontal "volcano" of destruction erupted, pounding relentlessly against the shield.
Under the dual assault of ice and fire, there came a sharp crack! a hairline fracture spread across the holy shield, threatening to shatter it entirely.
"This output… it's about on par with Erza's Starlight Particle Sword," Chase muttered calmly from behind the barrier, arms crossed. "In other words, setting aside the variables in the explosive magic, the fused Nagrez has reached S-Class strength."
"Well… that's quite the boost in intensity."
Having finished his analysis, Chase summoned his own magic. Raising one arm, he flooded the battered barrier with fresh energy.
Before the fight with Phantom Lord, the Roar of the Ice Flame Dragon might have broken through… but now

The Holy Shield's effect fully activated, the divine light surging in a brilliant flash. Threads of pure radiance sliced through ice and flame alike, streaking across the sky like a meteor shower each beam locking unerringly onto Nagrez, still standing on the frozen lake.
