The cold, damp air of the forest was the first thing Elias truly registered. He lay on a bed of soft, unfamiliar moss, the scent of petrichor and ancient earth filling his nostrils. The last thing he remembered was the agonizing tear of reality, the ship dissolving, the crushing weight of an unknown force. He felt the firm impact of the ground beneath him, the subtle give of the earth under his neutronium bones. His body was a fortress of cosmic engineering, but the vast, swirling galaxy of his power core was a dead space, a silent, empty shell. His laws were muted, like a whisper lost in a roaring crowd.
