"Rosie, are you okay?" Rayna asked as she approached, rubbing her arms against the night chill before she leaned next to me. "I didn't think you'd be here."

"I needed the air," I said, my eyes fixed on the trees swallowed by the dark sky. This balcony had became my refuge months ago, after I stumbled upon it in the library. Right when words had grown heavy and the Palace walls were starting to feel small.

"How are things?" I asked, finally looking at her.

I was still wearing the same dress from earlier. Torn, filthy and probably reeking of smoke. The veil I've left it back in my room. I just couldn't bring myself to stay there, where Ravić could just storm in at any given moment. At least she had changed into something more comfortable. A t-shirt and jeans. 

Rayna took a long breath, staring at her fingers clasped right in front of her. "Terrible, as you might expect."
