They've drugged me before the car even got out of the Palace grounds. I hadn't even seen it, when I've felt the sickening twist of my neck before the world faded into black. It was the only way to keep me from discovering the route there. But it still stung when I woke.

There was nothing but darkness, where we're going. At least nothing but the usual trees, as the car drove through roots and rocks. Dark trees pressed close on every side, a wall of darkness so thick, there were no roads, only the tracks that their tires had trudged through the earth. I didn't need to get out of the vehicle to know that outside, it would smell of wet wood and crushed greens, the kind of place Ravić and I spent days on when we were on the run.
