The air was thick with music and the scent of mortal skin. A heady mix of heat, sweat, perfume and the metallic thrum of life. It buzzed through me, too loud and too bright. Too alive. Maybe it was the wine...or the blood laced within it, but my chest felt lighter. My head a little too slow to follow. The edges of the world shimmered, soft and golden, like the room itself was breathing with me.

A man brushed against my back. Tall, broad and smelling faintly of whiskey and adrenaline. His hand found my waist like he had known me all his life. The woman beside him laughed, her dark eyes glazed and inviting, a glimmer of curiosity and danger mingling in her smile. 

I didn't stop them. After all, I did promise my husband that I'd bring two drinks before we leave.
