Ravić's grip tightened around my hand, the lower we descended the stairs. The muffled bass thudded through the concrete, vibrating faintly up my legs, growing louder with every step. It felt weird coming back here, especially after what had happened the last time we were here, but Sebastian refused to meet anywhere else.
He didn't want to risk Nina accidentally running into us in our apartment, since she stayed in the same building. Nor did he want to risk seeing us together in public, when I suggested we go to a human bar. Or somewhere within neutral territory.
If there was one thing Ravić's family have all in common, it'd be paranoia. But maybe that was why they had survived this long, in power.
The air grew colder as another floor passed beneath our feet. A familiar scent, blood, perfume, smoke and alcohol, curled through the stairwell, wrapping around us.
Ravić's tension bled into me, coiling tight around my ribs.
"We won't have to stay here long," he muttered.
