"Why are you here, Lan?" Aveline kept a straight face, as she walked over to where Landon stood.
"It's a club. Anyone can come to a club," he replied, a twinkle in his eyes.
"Nah, I know that face. It hasn't changed much since you were a boy. You're not here simply because it's a club. Are you following me? I thought we said our goodbyes already?"
"No, you said goodbye. I replied your goodnight only. Did you really think I would just let you be after seeing you again? Do you really think that low of me, Vee?"
Poof!
The twinkle in his eyes disappeared, and in its place was his lids lowered with an expression of yearning.
He yearned for her to return to the past with him. He yearned for her to stop this madness of keeping him at arms length, and remembering what it used to be. How good it used to be.
"You know I can't do this. I shouldn't do this."
"You can't do that, Vee?" His voice pitched a little higher, his frustrations shining through.
