Chapter 25 - Lockdown

...

The lockdown was swift and efficient, with reinforced metal doors slamming shut and sealing off every exit and entrance to the botanical garden. The sound of alarms blared through the facility, and the lights flickered as the security systems went into high alert mode.

Wren, trapped in the vents, felt the air pressure change as the ducts were sealed off, one by one. She heard the hiss of reinforced panels sliding into place, trapping her in the narrow, winding passages. The vents grew darker, the only light coming from the faint glow of her Graviton Walkers' control panel.

The Security Drone Swarm Alpha-4 was deployed, a fleet of small, agile drones that buzzed through the facility, scanning every inch of the premises.

Wren could hear the drones' high-pitched whine as they swarmed through the vents, their advanced sensors and cameras searching for any sign of her. Wren knew she had to move fast, but the vents were becoming increasingly claustrophobic. The air was thick with dust, and she could feel the drones closing in.

"Command Center to Security Team," the leader's voice echoed through the comms system, his tone controlled and calculated.

"We have a Level-3 containment breach. I want all personnel to assemble the NeuroScanner X5000 in Sector 4. This device will detect any anomalies in the suspect's biometric signature, ensuring we capture our target."

Wren's heart sank as she heard the leader's words. The NeuroScanner X5000 was a highly advanced device, capable of detecting even the slightest changes in a person's biometric signature. She knew she had to move fast, before the device was set up and activated.

She crawled through the ductwork, her Graviton Walkers' advanced sensors guiding her through the darkness.

The drones were relentless, their sensors detecting even the slightest movement. Wren knew she had to find a safe place to hide, and fast. She spotted a maintenance access point, a small panel that looked like it hadn't been used in years. With a surge of adrenaline, she crawled towards it, hoping to find a temporary haven.

As she reached the access point, Wren quickly removed the panel and slipped inside, sealing it behind her. She found herself in a cramped, dimly lit room filled with dusty maintenance equipment. The room was quiet, the only sound the hum of old machinery. Wren took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart. But she knew she couldn't stay here forever.

"Security Team, this is Command Center," the leader's voice echoed through the comms system again. "I want a thermal imaging sweep of the entire facility. We need to pinpoint the suspect's location. Move, people!"

Wren's eyes widened as she heard the leader's words. She knew she had to keep moving, before the thermal imaging sweep detected her presence. She looked around the room, searching for any possible means of escape. But for now, she was trapped, and the security team was closing in.

Wren gazed softly at the Kadupul flower in her hand, its delicate white petals and slender stem a stark contrast to the high-tech gadgetry surrounding her.

The soft glow of the NeuroSpark device on her wrist cast an ethereal light on her face as she contemplated her next move. A brilliant plan began to formulate in her mind,as she sprang into action.

Wren hacked into the security team's surveillance feeds, injecting false data into the NeuroNet system that powered their security grid.

Multiple false positives flashed on the screens, and the security team scrambled to respond.

"Multiple intruder alerts in sectors 1, 2, and 3. We have a possible containment breach," the system announced through the comms system, its digital voice echoing through the corridors.

The security team, clad in their black tactical gear and helmets with built-in SmartVisors, rushed to the designated areas.

Wren seamlessly modified the feeds, making it look like she was trying to escape through the east wing.

"Possible escape route detected in sector 7," Wren relayed, mimicking the security team's comms.

But Eren quickly adjusted the plan, diverting the security team's attention to the service tunnels.

"Intruder detected in service tunnels, sector 5," The system announced, drawing the security team away from Wren's true escape route.

The leader's voice came through the comms system, "We have multiple sightings of the suspect. I want you to converge on the service tunnels and search every inch of that area. Move, people!" Wren smiled, knowing she had successfully diverted the security team's attention.

She quickly changed to her beggar's outfit, the Kadupul flower safely hidden in her backpack, disguised in a bottle. The soft rustle of the fabric and the faint scent of worn leather filled the air as she transformed into a new persona.

"What's the best escape route?" Wren asked Bilharzia her system, her voice low and urgent.

"Main gates are relatively clear," Bilharzia responded. "But there's a checkpoint ahead, manned by agents equipped with SmartScan drones. I can create a diversion to distract them by hacking into the traffic management system."

Wren nodded, Bilharzia working its magic. The traffic lights at the intersection ahead malfunctioned, causing cars to stop and pedestrians to scatter. The security team was momentarily distracted, their SmartVisors flashing with alerts as they tried to regain control of the situation.

"Where's the patrol team?" Wren asked, her eyes scanning the area.

"They're setting up a checkpoint at the main gate, equipped with biometric scanners and facial recognition software," Eclipse replied. "But the diversion should give us enough time to slip past them undetected."

Wren took advantage of the diversion, slipping past the checkpoint and disappearing into the crowd. The sounds of the city - car horns, chatter, and wailing sirens - enveloped her as she blended in with the throngs of people. She knew she had to keep moving, but for now, she was one step ahead of the security team. The Kadupul flower was safe, and she had pulled off the impossible.

As Wren emerged from the botanical garden, she knew that the patrol team wouldn't back down easily. She swiftly deployed her swarm of micro-drones, each no larger than a hummingbird, to create a complex network of decoy trails.

The drones, equipped with advanced stealth technology and miniaturized propulsion systems, buzzed through the air, leaving behind a maze of digital breadcrumbs that would confuse and mislead the patrol team.

The drones' high-resolution cameras and sensors captured the surroundings, generating a 3D map of the area that Wren could use to plan her next move. As the drones flew through the streets, they released tiny particles of smart dust that dispersed and reassembled into fake trails, making it seem like Wren had taken multiple paths at once.

The patrol team, hot on Wren's heels, was completely fooled by the decoy trails. They split up, pursuing multiple leads and wasting valuable time and resources. Wren watched from a safe distance, a satisfied smile spreading across her face as she monitored the chaos unfolding below.

With her mission accomplished, Wren initiated the "Ghost Protocol," a sophisticated algorithm that erased all evidence of her digital footprint, seamlessly covering her tracks. Her system deleted all records of her presence, making it impossible for anyone to track her movements.

As she made her way to the academy, Wren felt a sense of pride and accomplishment. She had pulled off the impossible, and her skills were being recognized. Upon entering the academy, a notification flashed on her system's interface, announcing that she had been awarded 1000 points and 1000 stats for completing the mission.

"Mission Accomplished: Kadupul Flower Retrieval," the notification read. "You have earned 1000 points and 1000 stats. Your current stats: 9000/10000. You are 1000 stats away from leveling up."

Wren's eyes widened as she gazed at the notification. She was getting close to leveling up, and the thought of unlocking new skills and abilities was exhilarating. She couldn't wait to see what the next level would bring. With a sense of anticipation, Wren headed to the academy's central hub, ready to plan her next move and take on the next challenge.
