Chapter 2 - The Fox in the House

If there was one thing to enjoy about this other world, it was the lavish bedroom. I mean, the bed alone was probably ten times the size of my apartment back home, to say the least.

After I was shown to the imperial wash house and took a much needed impromptu bath. I found myself laying in my room, just stuck in my thoughts.

Purification huh.

FLASHBACK

 "That's actually a question I can't answer"

"I'm sorry?

Lulua showed a face of concern, but her words never changed.

"I don't know why you only have purification, you should at least have minor mending or even regeneration, at least, that's what the handbooks regarding your class stated"

So, despite this summoning apparently being years in the making, there was already some kind of glitch that went unnoticed.

I looked over to my comrades and noticed them playing around with their various abilities.

Tempest was swinging a sword near twice his size, and on it was a swirl of elements, Fire, Water, Earth, Air. All of them came together in a cataclysm that completely destroyed the training dummy that he found himself facing.

Fiona on the other hand had completely disappeared from thin air, her class, Assassin, granting her the ability to turn invisible, alongside enhancing her agility and striking strength. It also seemed to make her some form of a weapons master, judging from the perfectly aimed daggers that split a training dummy down the middle.

Next was Fitz, he was designated the class Ruler, which already sounded completely insane. Unlike our two companions his power didn't seem to grant him any special strength boost or elemental control. No instead he had taken control of the training dummies and was making them face each other, him giving them various commands that they despite their lack of humanity, followed to a t. Almost like a puppeteer conducting a show.

That just left me. The healer who couldn't heal.

I wouldn't mind the ability purification if it didn't seriously inhibit my training, in order to gain more skills I had to acquire experience with my current skill until it reached a level that called for a status evolution, think of it as leveling up.

For all intents and purposes, purification served me the role splash served a magikarp. Completely useless.

"If I can't use my ability on the dummies, is it cool if I head back to my room for tonight, just so I can settle in."

"Of course! I'll lead you right there."

FLASHBACK END.

Knock Knock

The sound of the door being hit woke me directly out of my sleep. Groggily, I yawned as I got myself out of the bed I had just barely gotten accustomed to, and went to open the door.

"It's Tempest, you're Walker right?"

Great, blondie's come to stop by.

Though we had introduced ourselves to one another, I had a bit of a sore taste in my mouth towards the boy ever since he basically declared that we were going to help the kingdom.

"I am she."

"Great, I was worried I had gotten your name mixed up with Fiona's, I'm happy that's not the case."

"I see"

I know I was coming off a bit dry but I honestly wasn't in the mood to talk, and seeing as he had woken me up out of my sleep in order to get my attention, he was lucky I didn't want to make a complete ass of myself in this new world.

"Is it okay if I come in?"

"Uhh, sure."

Sighing, I reluctantly unlocked the door, and as I did, his white eyes made contact with my grey ones.

He was a handsome guy, I had to give him that, he gave the impression of a knight in a fantasy novel that sweeps the princess off of her feet. Fitting since his role as a paladin meant that that could probably be his future in this foreign world.

"I just wanted to apologize"

"Oh? For what?"

"For earlier, I was just so excited that I blurted out that we all would be happy to help but I realize that may not necessarily be the case.

Oh, the blonde actually understands what he did was wrong, props.

"Oh that, it's okay, I accept your apology."

Honestly, it was a little annoying but it was nothing serious, it's not like he killed my mom.

"Consider it water under the bridge, besides, with further thought, I'd rather find the demon king and get the chance to go home then wallow in sadness and just live here you know?"

"Exactly! That exactly I feel, sure it's an inconvenience but we are chosen to do this, just gotta train a bit, level up, and that demon king is pretty much toast."

Objectively speaking, he was right. We are the four heroes, we have the capacity to defeat the demon king, we just have to reach it.

But that meant I couldn't skip out on training, even if I was stuck with the useless ability purification. It just means I have to find some way to make it work. I had just the plan to do so too. I just needed to be able to test my theory.

"Hey Tempest, do you think they have an-"

BOOM

An explosion rang overhead from the floor underneath us.

"What was that?"

"I don't know, but we should go check it out, it could be one of the members of the demon king's army.

Of course.

-

After I changed out of my pajamas into the battle ready clothes Lulua had prepared for me for training, me and Tempest headed downstairs and what met our eyes was something that shook me to my core.

A gigantic fox with three eyes, and nine tails stared at me. It felt like it was emitting an aura of death.

This had to be a member of the demon king's army, and it wasn't a pretty one.

Drawing his sword, Tempest looked at me and nodded his head as he charged into the fray. In my hand I held a small staff, made of iron and wood, with an angel carved on its crest. Lulua had given it to me when she took me to my room, and said it was a conduit for magic.

The Kitsune let out a large roar and charged at tempest with a ball of fire in its mouth. As the bolt flew out towards the blonde boy, he sliced it in half and the sword seemed to absorb the flames. He moved as if it was second nature, and without a second thought, sliced the kitsune clean in half.

But that wasn't enough.

The Kitsune seemed to be completely unfazed by the attack, the split ends that Tempest made recombined and healed to perfection as if nothing happened.

He went in for another blow, but this time the Kitsune dodged it, and with a swipe of its tails, Tempest was knocked towards the ground. When the Kitsune went to attack him once again, his sword released the pent up fire it had in store and burned the fox with its own power. The wincing caused from the pain gave Tempest enough time to rise to his feet again.

This time his sword swirled with water and ice at the very tips, from it he released a burst attack that seemed to completely overpower the fox.

Realizing I was just watching, I casted the only ability I had in case it could be of any use.

Purification rang throughout the air, a bolt of light met the kitsune head on. It tried to avoid it but it homed in on the fox and the moment it made contact with it, turned it into a pile of ash.

Did purification do that? This skill is fucking busted…

"What the fuck?"

I looked to my right to see Fiona and Fitz standing besides me, but as dumbstruck as I was. More so when the fox regenerated from the pile of ashes it had just been reduced too.

"If it can regenerate from all of these attacks.. How can we defeat it?"

My question seemed to make a lightbulb go off in Fitz's head, since before long he was standing with his hand out in front of the fox, magic power pulsing.

"It's not enough, I need to be able to touch it.

Was he trying to… is he insane? He literally just got his powers like 12 hours ago, why would he be able to tame a monster like this?

Fiona didn't seem to have the same apprehensions to the idea that I did, seeing as she charged towards Fitz, and with one hand threw him towards the fox with enough force to knock a baseball out of the field.

Just barely landing on top of the Kitsune, Fitz extended his hand on to the combative Kitsune's head, and let out a burst of magical power.

The room erupted in light.

When our senses finally came back to us, Fitz was laid out on the ground with a small fox in his hands.

That actually worked? Wow, that's insane.

"So…" I turned towards Lulua who had just walked into the room and had rushed over to heal Fitz and Tempest.

"What the fuck was that? Fiona finished.

Lulua looked at us with sadness in her eyes.

"The castle it's…. cursed."

Of course it is.
