Chapter 46 - When Healing Meets Narcissism

The arena thundered with sound. A thousand voices rose into one, shaking the structure itself as if the air would tear apart. The match had begun, and nothing could hold back the wave of excitement. Mortis, the infamous unicorn who carried himself like a force of legend, stood at the center. Across from him stood Clara, the half-angel whose heart leaned toward healing rather than fighting. Yet she was here, and she was determined.

Above them Mira rose higher into the air, her long hair glowing under the spotlights. She held the microphone close to her lips, her flame aura glittering. She waved her free hand, making sure the battlefield was clear, her voice rising above the roar of the crowd. Her excitement was palpable. This was not just a fight. This was a spectacle.

Clara exhaled softly. She lifted her arms, and light poured out of her palms. A golden current wrapped around her body like silk, weaving into armor that clung to her skin with elegance. Piece by piece the magic formed plates of yellow radiance, fitting her form and covering her modesty. She refused to allow her nudity to be her downfall. With angelic grace she summoned a shield of dignity.

Mortis tilted his head with a smile that split into a grin. His horn shimmered like silver fire, his black eyes gleaming with arrogance. "Wow Clara, you are starting to get serious huh?"

The audience leaned forward. They wanted blood, but they also wanted beauty, and Mortis was offering both.

Clara's lips curved gently, her golden armor glowing brighter. "Hmph, I do not like fighting, but I know I need this."

Mortis threw back his head and let loose booming laughter. "Hahaha, Clara you are completely pathetic huh? Do you really think that magic will help you? Wow, you are killing me with laughter." His voice rolled like thunder, dripping with mockery.

The crowd gasped and hissed at his arrogance. Piper, unable to contain herself, stood up from the stands, her fists pounding the railing. "Mortis, stop bullshitting! Come on and fight already!"

Mortis shot her a glare, snapping sharply. "Shut your mouth! You interru—"

Before he could even finish his insult Clara darted forward like lightning. Her leg snapped upward in a clean arc and smashed against his jaw. The sound echoed like stone cracking. Mortis's head whipped back and his body launched several meters through the air, tumbling against the arena floor.

"Ouch! You bitch, that hurt!" he shouted, clutching his face.

Clara chuckled, her voice light and teasing. "Heeheehee, caught you off guard, sweetie."

The crowd exploded with cheers. Mira's voice shook as she yelled into the microphone. "Wow! Did you all see that? Clara just surprised Mortis with a devastating kick! Incredible! And Piper, it looks like your distraction worked, baby!"

Piper's face flushed bright red. She crossed her arms and muttered. "Hmph, he deserved it…"

In the royal section of the stands Kuina sat quietly, her expression cool. Kylie clung tightly to her arm, refusing to let go. Kuina sighed. "Kylie, you are acting like a child."

Kylie looked up at her with a tender smile. "With you I feel like a child in love. You give me warmth. Please do not leave me. Let me stay in your arms… please."

Kuina rolled her eyes but softened. "Ugh, fine… only because you look so sad."

Kylie exhaled in relief, hugging tighter. "Thank you my love."

Piper noticed them and scoffed under her breath. "Hmph, Kylie always gets the affection first. We will see about that later…"

Lika placed her hand gently on Piper's shoulder. "It is sweet actually. Kuina is comforting Kylie because she was sad. That is adorable."

Piper rolled her eyes again. "Whatever."

Lika smiled warmly and hugged Piper without warning. "Here, take one of my hugs instead!"

Piper's lips twitched. She let out a soft laugh. "You are sweet."

On the battlefield Mortis growled, fury in his eyes. His horn lit up with beams of light that fired like arrows. Clara flipped and rolled, barely dodging. She sprinted forward to strike again, but his wing unfurled with metallic force. The feathers clashed against her foot, blocking the blow. With a swift sweep he slammed his wing into her side, knocking her several steps away.

"Ha! Got you this time!" he shouted triumphantly.

Clara smirked through the sting. "Mortis, stop it. You are too sweet for this. I cannot take you seriously."

Mortis's voice boomed with anger. "Shut up! I am not sweet! I am your worst nightmare right now. Take this!"

His mouth opened wide. A swirling storm of raw magic built in his throat, lightning crackling in violent arcs. The air itself bent and screamed. A torrent of blue energy erupted outward, tearing through the stage toward Clara.

Her eyes widened. "Oh no… this is too strong!" She summoned a golden barrier with trembling hands. The shield met his attack head on. The collision blasted shockwaves through the arena, rattling the crowd. Cracks split the stone floor. Clara's arms shook violently as she held the barrier, sweat running down her cheeks.

Above them Ortus grinned with twisted delight, resting her chin on her hand. James kept his eyes to the ground, unmoved. Prestik crossed his arms and nodded slightly, unimpressed. Lisia leaned over the edge of the viewing box. "Come on Mortis! You are my champion!"

Arrito clasped his hands with hope. "Come on Clara… I believe in you!"

Moly shouted from the fence, her voice piercing. "Come on both of you! Keep going!"

Cracks burst across Clara's shield. With a thunderous crack it shattered. The torrent screamed past her shoulder, aimed directly at the audience.

Mira's heart skipped. "Oh no… that will hit the crowd!"

Screams rose from the stands.

But in a streak of light Moly flashed across the field. Her foot connected with the energy wave, redirecting it skyward. It exploded in the sky like fireworks. The crowd gasped and then erupted into applause.

Mortis snarled. "How did that little brat do that?! Damn it! Lucky girl, Clara. But you will not escape this one!"

He braced himself, horn glowing wildly. His wings stretched wide as he spun in place, summoning a massive vortex. The wind tore across the arena, dragging dust and rubble into a cyclone. His voice roared. "Take this! HEAVEN TORNADO SMASH!"

The whirlwind launched him forward, his horn spinning like a drill of divine destruction. The ground cracked beneath his path, each step an earthquake.

Clara gasped, fear rising in her throat. "Oh no!"

The arena trembled as Mortis closed the distance.

Clara raised her palms, her voice steady despite her fear. "I have no choice. Forgive me Mortis, sweetie. POISON SHIELD!"

A dome of green energy burst into being. The vortex crashed into it. The poisonous aura absorbed the momentum and snuffed the tornado like a candle. Mortis collapsed to the ground, his energy drained.

Mira's voice rang out. "Ladies and gentlemen, count with me! Five seconds! If Mortis does not rise, Clara will win!"

The crowd counted in unison. "Five! Four! Three…"

Clara exhaled, already stepping away from the center. But Mortis groaned, rising to one knee. Mira raised her hand. "Stop! Mortis the Unicorn is rising! This is unbelievable!"

The audience roared.

Clara's eyes widened. "What? That poison paralyzes for hours…"

Mortis smirked weakly. "Hahaha, you liked my trick huh? My horn is immune to poison. My body maybe not, but I never used my horn for that strike. You will not defeat me so easily, nudist girl."

Clara chuckled lightly. "You really are something. Then take this!" She charged, fist glowing yellow. She slammed it into his chest and sent him flying backward.

"Yes! I landed it!" she cheered.

But Mortis stood again almost immediately, brushing dust from his body. "Haha, I was testing you. Not bad at all. But!" He blurred forward, faster than sight.

Clara gasped. He appeared behind her. His voice was sharp but mocking. "Hey sexy… your ass… ugh, forget it. I will not talk dirty." He whipped his wing into her and sent her sprawling.

"What?!" she coughed, stumbling up.

Mortis's grin widened. "Do not underestimate me. I have killed billions of warriors. My experience is unmatched."

Clara smiled faintly. "Heehee, impressive. But now let me show you the power of angels."

Her eyes glowed gold, her hair burst with light, and her armor flared brilliantly. Her voice resonated with an otherworldly echo. "Mortis, baby, I am not a fighter. I am a healer. I am overpowered in medicine. But in combat, I am weak. Still, do not underestimate me. Let us finish this quickly."

Arrito trembled, nearly in tears. "Wow! What pure power! My heart… I am melting."

Ortus hissed with amusement. "Quiet Arrito. Less tenderness, more terror."

Prestik yawned again. Lisia cheered. James still did not look up.

Piper cried out, flushed. "Clara, you are so sexy right now! Mortis, come on, fight her already!"

Kuina and Kylie remained silent in their embrace. Lika and Moly held hands tightly. Mira was almost screaming. "Clara has transformed! She is glowing with sex appeal and power. Mortis is in trouble!"

The crowd chanted Clara's name. Mortis clenched his teeth. "Damn it… I did not want to use this… but I have no choice."

He tried to warn her. "Clara, wait, do not be reckless. Let us think for a mo—"

Clara appeared before him, cutting him off. She pressed a sphere of golden energy into his chest and detonated it. The explosion hurled him back. She fired again and again, relentless. Mortis dodged, but several blasts burned him.

"Argh, you bitch!" he roared.

She closed the distance. "Goodbye, baby." She struck him with all her strength, sending him crashing down.

Piper and Lisia screamed together. "Mortis!"

His voice was faint. "TAYT…"

The arena shook violently. A blinding white explosion consumed the battlefield. Smoke rose like a storm. Clara stumbled back, clutching her chest. "Oh my god…"

The audience froze, eyes wide.

Piper's jaw dropped. Lisia smiled strangely. Ortus leaned forward, eyes alight. Prestik snored louder. Arrito quivered in awe. James remained stoic.

Kylie gasped. "Did you see that, my love? Wow, he became more divine."

Kuina smirked softly. "Yes. Surprising."

Mira's voice cracked. "Wait… is that… Mortis?!"

The smoke cleared. Mortis's unicorn body shrank and twisted. His bones shifted painfully, reshaping. His long hair spilled in white curls. His eyes turned pale black, his horn golden in the center of his forehead. Torn white garments clung to his muscular form. A unicorn tail flicked behind him.

He winked at Clara. "Oh… hey. Impressed by my beauty, Clara?"

The arena erupted. Women screamed in adoration. Men shouted in disbelief.

Mira gasped. "I cannot believe it…"

Piper shouted. "What is this technique? Mortis, you never showed this! How could you hide it from me?"

Mortis laughed smugly. "Haha, Piper, I saved this for a special occasion. Fighting in the Forest of Victims was not worth it. But now? I needed to be divine, festive, sexy, muscular, elegant, wild, pure, amazing, strong, precise, adored, worshiped, godly… oh, I already said godly… but you get the idea."

Piper screamed. "You bastard!"

Ortus clapped her hands. "Haha, I love you. That arrogance excites me."

Clara's jaw dropped. "Mortis… you are too sweet. This does not suit you."

Mortis held a small mirror in his hand, smiling. "I am not sure, Clara. Let me check… oh yes. This is exactly how I should look. Oh my god, I am so beautiful. Admit it, Clara. I am the sexiest thing you have ever seen. Go on, admit it."

Clara shook her head. "You are handsome… but why so arrogant? It disgusts me."

Moly shouted from the stands. "You are disgusting! You look weird!"

Mortis snapped at her. "Shut up, Barbie girl! You are not close to my divine beauty! Piper, learn from my sex appeal! Even you, Kuina!"

Kuina rolled her eyes. Kylie kissed her cheek again. "Ignore him, my love. He is not right."

Kuina smirked. "I know. Let him enjoy himself."

Piper clenched her fists, blushing. "Screw you, Mortis!"

Mira raised her voice. "That is great Mortis, but you are still in a battle!"

He looked at her with a smirk. "Mira… do you want attention? Fine. Look at me and tell me how radiant I am."

Clara snapped. "That is enough! This is disgusting!" She lunged.

But her body froze under his glowing gaze.

Mortis smirked. "My beauty blinds you, huh?"

He slapped her across the face, sending her rolling. "Do not underestimate me."

He admired himself again. "Wow… I melt just from looking at myself."

Clara shouted. "Focus on me! Not your reflection! Why insult me this way?"

Mortis chuckled. "You want attention? Fine. Notice the muscle in my arm. Big, right?"

Clara's aura shifted. Anger boiled inside her. Her golden light burned orange. The girls gasped.

Mira shouted. "Clara's power has changed! She is back!"

Mortis smirked lazily. "Oh, I am so scared."

Clara dashed and punched, but Mortis caught it with a finger. "Pathetic, sweet Clara."

He headbutted her, teleported, and kneed her stomach. She spat blood. He elbowed her face and sent her crashing down.

Mira gasped. "Mortis has no mercy! He is unstoppable!"

Ortus leaned toward Lisia. "Where does this power come from?"

Lisia smiled knowingly. "It must be rare natural magic. But it only lasts thirty minutes a day."

"Why is his ego exploding?" Ortus asked.

Lisia laughed. "This is how he truly is. The power reveals it."

Prestik snored. Arrito woke him. "Look!"

Prestik blinked. "Wow. He turned human. Finally."

Mortis towered above Clara. "Stand up. I am bored."

Clara blasted him but he was unscathed. "Hahaha, do you see my divinity? My beauty? That is why your attack failed."

Piper screamed. "You bastard!"

Kylie whispered to Kuina. "He really is trash."

Kuina smirked. "Total trash. And I love it."

Mortis rose into the air, hands in his pockets. "Let us end this." He unleashed "GODLY PULSE!"

Clara raised a shield but Mortis appeared behind her. "Another thing to admire… my speed."

He slapped her again, kicked her gut, and hurled her out of the arena.

The crowd gasped. Mortis blew them a kiss, then flipped Piper off.

She blushed furiously. "Why is he so hot?!"

Moly frowned. "Look at this jerk!"

Lika sighed. "Poor Clara. She only wanted a fair fight. He toyed with her."

Mortis strolled toward Clara. "Need help? Clothes? Something? Why not heal your allergy?"

Clara glared. "It drains my power. It is lethal."

Mortis peeled off his shirt, revealing his body. The crowd screamed.

Kylie whispered. "He is sexy… but I am not bisexual."

Kuina teased. "Would you kiss him?"

Kylie blushed. "Yes… but nothing more." She kissed Kuina's cheek again.

Clara looked away. "Please do not…"

Mortis tossed his shirt at her. Shackles bound her. She cried out. "I surrender!" She flared her aura and saved herself.

Mortis froze. "But… I did not finish!"

Clara sighed. "I am done. Your narcissism disgusts me."

She left. Mira raised his hand. "The winner is Mortis!"

He jerked his hand away. "Do not touch me! The fight was ruined!"

He flew off. Piper tried to chase but a barrier stopped her. Lisia volunteered to follow.

Clara disappeared into the locker room. Mira turned back. "Now, the next match. Lika versus Arrito!"

Moly kissed Lika. "Good luck sweetie."

Kuina and Kylie blew kisses. Piper smiled. "Good luck princess."

Lika blushed. "Thank you girls…"

Arrito descended, glowing. He approached, ignoring Mira's warning. He wrapped his arms around Lika gently.

She gasped, blushing. He whispered, "Good luck Lika. May the best win, sweet one."

The crowd erupted again.
