If there was anything the Ryker family was good at, it was showing up. No matter how heartbroken you were, no matter how much you were bleeding on the inside, my mother Luna Helene would always tell you to suck it up and put on a brave face for the world.
So here I was, sucking it up.
I would have given anything to bury myself under my blankets and cry my eyes out. To hide away from the world and nurse my wounded pride and broken heart in private. But that wasn't an option. Not when I'd received a text from my mother at six o'clock this evening, written in all capitals like she was shouting at me through the screen: "YOU WILL BE AT TONIGHT'S FESTIVAL. NO EXCUSES."
She didn’t care if we were still not in speaking terms. She didn’t even bother to try to make amends first before insisting I attend the festival.
