My heart stopped when I saw my wife suddenly run towards the danger and all the bells of alarm rang in my head as the adrenaline started to pump violently in my veins.
It was as if my body just moved on its own without me thinking first about it, which was very unlikely of me. I hate doing something without any plan. I hate being reckless. But this time, it was different.
My body had to move faster than my head could think. After seeing Samantha throwing herself in the face of danger, all I could think was to save her and keep her alive and breathing no matter what. I didn’t care what could happen to me. I didn’t care if I got shredded into pieces if it meant my wife could be safe. I had to make sure she would get out of this place alive no matter what.
That was what I promised to her. That was what I promised Devon and Diana.
