Chapter 3 - Chapter 2: Nexus and Nonsense

After the lecture she got at breakfast, Rin was still sulking in the passenger seat of her family's luxury hover car. The morning sun filtered through the tinted windows as they glided smoothly through the city toward Eden Prime Academy.

Maria, in her tailored blazer and sunglasses, sat behind the wheel—radiating peak alpha confidence.

Rin crossed her arms and glared. "Seriously, sis? You snitched on me like that?"

Maria chuckled. "Oh, come on. It was necessary… for maintaining timelines."

Rin's eyebrow twitched. "Ugh, don't give me that crap again. Nexus-borns make up like, what—0.01% of the world's population? And you expect me to believe you can control time or whatever?"

Maria gave her a knowing smile, eyes still on the road.

"I mean," Rin huffed, "if you really could stop time, then why didn't you do it when I was about to kiss Miss Calli? Or Foxey? Huh?"

Maria glanced sideways. "So you could mark them? No way."

She smirked. "You're shady, Rin. Besides, even if you could mark them, you wouldn't survive it."

"Pfft. Why not?" Rin said, chin high.

"Because you can't handle one alpha, let alone multiple. We alphas are dominant, territorial, strong—" she flexed slightly for dramatic effect, "—and we don't share our omegas."

Rin rolled her eyes and smirked. "Well I'm the main character, Sis. I can and will handle at least five—maybe six—alphas."

Maria burst out laughing. "Sure you will. I'll start prepping your funeral now."

Rin stuck her tongue out, just as Maria pulled into the academy's high-security student parking area. Elite hovercars, custom bikes, even a few armored limos were parked around. This was not a normal school.

Maria powered down the vehicle.

"Anyway, take care today. Your heat's coming up—you'll feel it soon."

"Don't remind me," Rin grumbled.

"Oh, and I'm not driving you home. I've got a date with Juliette after class."

"Again? You just went out last night!"

Maria winked. "Alpha stamina, baby."

Rin groaned, grabbing her bag.

She stepped out, flipping her scarf over her shoulder dramatically.

Time to hunt some alphas.
