Chapter 214 - Chapter 214: Revival Failed? Or a Desire to Die?

After personally killing Ryun, Saki and the sensory-type ninja from the envoy carefully observed the corpse for a long time.

The reason they waited so patiently was that a Kumo-nin sensory-type ninja had detected intense chakra fluctuations from Ryun just before his death.

Before Saki stabbed him, this ninja noticed that Ryun's chakra had suddenly dropped by more than half for an unknown reason. And when the blade pierced Ryun's heart, the chakra fluctuations became even more violent.

This was strange, so he deliberately kept an eye on it, informing Saki while also staying by the corpse for an extended period.

However, the gradually cooling body showed no signs of revival. Moreover, the Konoha-nin showed no particular reaction, not even hurrying to collect the body, allowing the Kumo-nin to guard it for a long time...

Seeing no further issues and fully confirming Ryun's death, Saki finally left the Hokage Building with his team in peace.

In the Kumo-nin envoy's understanding, no jutsu in the world could bring someone back to life after complete death. Thus, they had no doubts about Ryun's demise.

Not long after, Saki and the envoy left Konoha satisfied. However, what he didn't expect was that a grim reaper was waiting for them on their inevitable path back to their homeland.

The Kumo-nin envoy, a group of fifteen, would never make it out of the Land of Fire alive.

Because someone wanted to provoke a war between the Land of Lightning and the Land of Fire, aiming to weaken the two strongest nations in the ninja world.

Inside the Hokage Building, seven full hours had passed since Ryun's death. Initially, the Uchiha Fifth Elder, Uchiha Yo, had claimed that the forbidden jutsu 'Izanagi' implanted in Ryun's eyes would activate after exactly seven hours.

But now, the time had come, and the cold corpse showed no signs of awakening...

The method Uchiha Yo had taught Ryun the previous night was unique, with an extremely complex hand seal sequence. Ryun had studied it all night but still couldn't fully grasp the jutsu, remaining confused about the purpose of some seals.

Originally, he had wanted to analyze the technique—after all, he was betting his life on it. But he simply didn't have enough time.

Uchiha Yo had taught him this forbidden jutsu capable of reversing fate. Whether the technique itself was flawed, Ryun couldn't tell, but it repeatedly referenced the number '7.'

This was something Ryun barely understood, and he had questioned Uchiha Yo about it.

At the time, Uchiha Yo seemed surprised that Ryun had noticed this detail but quickly provided a reasonable explanation—'7' represented the time between death and revival.

He said Ryun would revive seven hours after death.

Ryun didn't doubt this explanation. If there was anything that felt off about the technique... it was probably the excessive chakra consumption!

From the moment the Kumo-nin envoy entered the Hokage Building, Ryun had already begun forming hand seals in the hall. By the time they arrived, the preparatory phase was complete, and he began channeling chakra into the seals in his eyes.

Just before Saki struck, the forbidden jutsu was fully activated, and Ryun's chakra was drained violently once again.

From start to finish, the jutsu consumed over 70% of Ryun's chakra—enough to cast 'Chidori' more than ten times...

The massive chakra expenditure made Ryun realize something was wrong, but by then, it was too late.

The blade was already at his heart, and the Kumo-nin gave him no time to reconsider...

"What's going on? Why hasn't Ryun revived yet?"

Sarutobi Hiruzen urgently questioned the two Uchiha elders. All the Konoha higher-ups were waiting for Ryun's revival, ready to apologize and beg for forgiveness.

But now, something terrible seemed to have happened—Ryun had been dead for over seven hours!

Under the weight of everyone's stares, the two Uchiha elders visibly panicked, a bad feeling creeping into their hearts.

"G-Go call Uchiha Yo here!!!"

At that moment, an ANBU operative appeared before Hiruzen.

"Report—the Uchiha Fifth Elder requests an audience. He appears to be in a hurry..."

"Let him in immediately!" Hiruzen snapped.

Before they could even send for him, Uchiha Yo had arrived on his own.

"How—how is Ryun?!" Uchiha Yo blurted out before anyone could question him.

"We were about to ask you! Why hasn't Ryun woken up yet? What's going on?" Hiruzen demanded harshly.

"N-No revival?! Impossible! How could he not wake up?!"

Uchiha Yo gasped, then rushed to the corpse, prying open Ryun's lifeless eyes to inspect them closely.

The Konoha higher-ups all crowded around.

The eerie, blood-red eyes of the dead sent chills down their spines. Ryun had died with his Three Tomoe Sharingan active, and the tomoe pattern remained unchanged even in death.

Those who had harvested Sharingan before knew this was normal—the tomoe pattern usually remained after death.

Like during the Uchiha Massacre, when Shimura Danzō and Uchiha Obito collected countless Sharingan, the eyes lining the walls were all crimson with tomoe, not their natural black.

"Why is this happening? The jutsu doesn't seem to have activated! What went wrong? Why didn't he follow the plan? Can someone tell me what happened?!"

Uchiha Yo looked both furious and desperate. Hearing this, everyone's eyes widened in shock.

"N-No way! Why would he suddenly change his mind? Who would choose death over living?"

"Y-You must be mistaken, right? He's still going to revive, isn't he?"

Hiruzen stammered, his gaze flickering between the corpse and Uchiha Yo, his composure crumbling.

"Tell me exactly how you taught him the forbidden jutsu..."

The Uchiha First Elder pulled Uchiha Yo aside and whispered urgently, wondering if there had been a mistake in the hand seals or some other critical step.
