Chapter 3 - Supreme Loser vs Emotionless Anime Girl

The world did not crack.

It simply… stopped mattering.

That was how Kumagawa Misogi preferred it.

A blank expanse stretched endlessly in all directions, like a page that had forgotten what it was supposed to hold. No sky. No ground. Just the quiet implication that something should exist there, and didn't.

Kumagawa stood at the center of it, hands in his pockets, shoulders slouched, expression caught somewhere between boredom and disappointment.

「"Wow,"」, he muttered. 「"Another dramatic battlefield. I guess I'm supposed to feel excited or something?"」

A soft tap answered him.

Footsteps.

Measured. Calm. Certain.

From the empty distance, a figure emerged; a kimono brushing against nothing, as if even the void made way for her. Her eyes were steady, unreadable, but not cold. Just… distant. Like she had already accepted the end of everything long before arriving.

Shiki Ryougi stopped a few paces away.

"…So you're the one," she said quietly.

Kumagawa tilted his head.

「"Oh? You know me? That's kind of embarrassing. I usually try to keep a low profile as a worthless loser"」

Shiki didn't respond to the self-deprecation. Her gaze had already shifted, not to him, but through him.

Lines.

There were always lines.

Thin, fragile seams running across existence itself, like cracks in glass that only she could see.

They were there on him, too.

Countless.

Layered.

Wrong.

"…You're already dead," she said.

Kumagawa blinked.

Then smiled.

「"Ah, that's rude. I worked really hard to keep being alive, you know?"」

He took a step forward with a mischievous grin.

「"And besides, if I were dead, I'd just erase it"」

Shiki's hand moved to the knife at her side, not hurried, not tense. Just inevitable.

"I kill things," she said. "Anything that has a beginning… has an end."

Her voice didn't rise. It didn't need to.

"This world. You. Even concepts."

Kumagawa's grin widened.

「"Wow. That's amazing. Seriously. You'd fit right in with the kind of monsters I lose to all the time,"」 He said casually as if nothing she said meant anything to him.

A pause.

Then, softer:

「"But I don't really 'end"」

The air shifted.

Or maybe it didn't.

It was hard to tell with the monster that is Misogi Kumagawa

「"My power,"」 he continued, tapping his temple lightly, "「lets me turn anything into nothing. Injuries, events, even the fact that something happened」"

He spread his arms.

"「All Fiction」"

For a moment, the void seemed to deepen.

"「Death included」"

Shiki's eyes narrowed slightly.

"…You erase outcomes."

「"Yep."」

"I kill origins."

Kumagawa laughed.

「"Wow. That's actually kind of poetic. Did you come up with that yourself?"」 He asked curiously

No answer.

But something shifted between them, not hostility, not yet.

Recognition.

Two people standing at the edge of existence, but from opposite sides.

Shiki, who had seen the root of all things. The quiet, underlying truth that everything must end.

Kumagawa, who rejected truth entirely. Who denied conclusions, erased consequences, and insisted that nothing meant anything.

"…You're empty," Shiki said.

Kumagawa scratched his cheek.

「"Eh? That hurts. I mean, you're not wrong, but still."」 Kumagawa said as he clutched his chest in a dramatic fashion.

"No," she continued, "not hollow. You remove meaning. You make things, never have been."

Her grip tightened on the knife.

"That's worse than death."

Kumagawa's smile didn't fade.

But his eyes did.

"…Yeah," he said lightly. "That's why I'm so good at losing."

She moved.

No windup. No warning.

One step and she was already within reach.

The knife traced a perfect line across his chest.

A clean, undeniable cut.

For an instant, the world acknowledged it. Kumagawa's eyes widened in shock for just a second.

Then...

"「...Just kidding."」 He said casually as he snapped his fingers.

The wound vanished.

Not healed.

Not reversed.

Erased.

Kumagawa looked down at his perfectly intact uniform and sighed.

「"Man, that was fast. You didn't even give me time to monologue."」

Shiki didn't react.

Her eyes had already found the lines again.

"…I cut you."

「"And I erased the fact that you did,"」 Kumagawa replied instantly

A pause.

"…Then I'll cut the part that erases."

For the first time, Kumagawa's grin faltered, just a little.

"Wow," he said softly. 「"That's cheating."」

She stepped forward again, but this time, the movement felt deeper.

Not faster.

Closer.

Like distance itself had been cut.

Her blade didn't aim for his body.

It traced one of the invisible lines wrapped around him—thin, delicate, absolute.

The line of his ability.

The "end" of All Fiction.

It connected.

For a fraction of a second, something impossible happened.

Kumagawa Misogi's power… had an endpoint.

His smile froze. His eyes were bleeding profusely.

"…Ah."

The world hesitated.

Then—

「"—Nope."」 He said with a chuckle

Everything snapped back.

The line disappeared.

The cut never happened.

Shiki stood still, knife lowered slightly.

"…You erased that too."

Kumagawa exhaled, rubbing the back of his neck.

「"Yeah. Sorry. Reflex."」 Kumagawa replied as if it wasn't intentional.

He looked at her, expression almost sheepish.

「"I can't really let myself lose that badly."」

Silence stretched between them.

Then Shiki spoke.

"You're afraid of ending."

Kumagawa blinked.

Then laughed.

「"Of course I am! Ending means I lose, right? And I'm amazing at losing, but I still hate it."」

"…I don't," she said.

He tilted his head.

「"Really?"」

"Everything ends," Shiki replied. "That's not a loss. That's the truth."

Kumagawa's smile softened.

"…That sounds nice."

A beat.

"Too bad, I don't believe in it." He responded as they both raised their feet.

They moved at the same time.

Shiki's knife traced death itself, cutting lines that defined existence.

Kumagawa's ability unraveled reality, removing cause, effect, and consequence.

Cuts landed.

They vanished.

Endings formed.

They were denied.

Again.

Again.

Again.

Until the difference became clear.

Shiki could kill anything that existed.

Kumagawa could make it so that things never existed to be killed.

Her world required truth.

His world rejected it.

At some point, the fight… stopped.

No final blow.

No decisive moment.

Just a quiet understanding.

Shiki lowered her knife.

"…I can't reach you." She said with slight disappointment in her usual emotionless voice.

Kumagawa shrugged.

「"Yeah. Sorry. I'm kind of the worst."」

A pause.

"…But I can't beat you either," he added.

She looked at him with slight confusion

"Why?"

He smiled, genuinely, for once.

"Because you're right."

Silence.

Then...

He appeared in front of her and patted her head softly, not like a mindless robot, but as a cute junior she reminded him of.

"Ending things… having meaning… that stuff." He said with a chuckle.

His hands slipped back into his pockets.

"I think that's really cool," Kumagawa said with a smile as he walked past her.

Shiki watched him go with a slight blush on her face.

"…You're strange."

He waved lazily without turning back.

"I get that a lot."

The void remained.

Unchanged.

Or perhaps...

It had never been there at all.
