Startled by the loud shout, Elijah's foot hovering over the pedal, pressed hard on the brakes, nearly sending the car drifting over the mud.
The wheels screeched before coming to a halt.
Luckily, it hadn't rained, or they might really be in trouble.
"What's wrong?" Elijah asked, alarmed. His gaze had already given Alexei a once-over.
Noticing no problem, he instantly turned to look at the road.
"You!" the young master scoffed, releasing his seat belt.
"What is wrong with you, Elijah? You nearly gave me a heart attack."
Elijah couldn't understand.
That was until Alexei exhaled a long breath, slumping over Elijah, his arms wrapping around the exorcist like an octopus.
A bit baffled, Elijah reciprocated the gesture, hugging Alexei, patting his back as if gently consoling the child.
"Do you know how worried I have been all this time? I couldn't even sleep because I kept thinking about my love-rival."
Alexei wasn't lying. His night had been torn open, restless, haunted.
