Chapter 3 - The Strange Night and the Guardian of Shadows

The clearing where Lucas, Lyra, and Selene had set up camp was wrapped in an almost supernatural calm. The pale moonlight filtered through the branches of ancient trees, casting dancing shadows on the ground covered with dry leaves. The fire crackled, sending sparks rising toward the starry sky, while the three young adventurers shared stories and light laughter — a temporary truce from the dangers Eldoria offered.

Lucas felt, however, a subtle unease, as if the serenity were a fragile mask about to break. The silence amid the forest sounds seemed deeper, and the natural noises carried a tone of warning he was not yet accustomed to sensing.

He adjusted the cloak over his shoulders and, looking at the sky, whispered almost to himself,"Have you ever felt like you're being watched?"

Selene, always agile and spontaneous, smiled with that mischievous sparkle in her eyes and leaned closer to him."You're starting to think like a true adventurer," she said, her voice a mix of fun and challenge."Here in Eldoria, that feeling isn't just common — it's the rule."

Lyra, with her calm and steady demeanor, turned toward the surrounding trees, watching the shadows that seemed to move with a life of their own."Be careful," she warned."This world holds secrets that not even the system reveals right away. Not everything here is what it seems."

Lucas felt a chill run down his spine. The once welcoming atmosphere now felt heavy with tension. It was as if something invisible was just beyond sight, a hidden presence watching, waiting for the right moment to act.

Suddenly, a dry snap echoed from deep inside the forest. The three turned toward the source of the sound, the firelight illuminating their alert faces.

Lyra was the first to draw her sword, positioning herself at the front with firmness and grace. Selene vanished into the shadows like a black streak, moving with the agility of a silent predator.

From the nearby bushes, a figure slowly emerged. It was a young woman who seemed made of the night itself. Her silver hair cascaded over her shoulders, reflecting the moonlight like threads of liquid silver. Her eyes, a deep and intense blue, shone like cold stars, hypnotizing.

She wore light black armor, adorned with details that resembled moving shadows. She wielded an elegant spear, its blade seeming to absorb the little light around, creating a mesmerizing contrast.

Lucas felt the air grow heavier, his pulse quickening with anticipation and respect."Who are you?" he asked, his voice steady despite the mix of fascination and caution.

The young woman took a step forward, resting the spear by her side, and spoke with a calm almost enigmatic tone:"My name is Iris. I am the Guardian of Shadows in this forest. I have come to check on the newcomers."

Lyra did not lower her sword, but her gaze softened, as if weighing the truth in those words."What do you mean by 'check on'?" she questioned.

Iris fixed her piercing eyes on them, almost as if she could see through the layers of their souls."Eldoria is changing," she replied, her tone heavy with gravity."Ancient forces awaken in the darkness, and those who carry the system might be the key to what is coming."

Lucas felt a mix of unease and curiosity grow inside him. The presence of this woman commanded respect but also awakened a deep desire to know her.

Selene reappeared from the shadows with a gravity-defying smile, her eyes shining with a mix of amusement and admiration."Welcome to the team, Iris," she said casually, hiding her excitement."You're going to like our new 'recruit.'"

Iris gave Lucas a subtle, enigmatic smile, her blue eyes meeting his as if sharing a silent secret.

The night deepened, and the conversations around the fire grew more serious. Plans were made, warnings given, and a new balance emerged among the four. The blend of light and shadow, strength and mystery, seemed to define the group beginning to form.

When everyone retired to rest, Lucas stayed awake, reflecting on the day and Iris's words. The system softly glowed in his vision, indicating a new skill unlocked:Skill Unlocked: Whispers of the Shadows — allows detection of hidden presences and stealthy movement for short periods.

A smile formed on his lips. The journey ahead promised to be long and full of challenges, but also rich with discoveries and deep connections.

Outside, in the forest shadows, something watched. Silent. Relentless. The game had begun.
