Chapter 77 - Red-velvet Cake

HOPE

Since wallowing in my mess of a situation won't magically fix anything, I do the next best thing—I lean into it.

How do they even say it… Make lemonade out of my lemon? Or, in this case, red velvet cupcakes.

Saturdays are my one true favorite. No classes, and I don't coincidentally meet Kaleb almost all day. I usually leave my Saturday mornings free to get my beauty sleep, so I take full advantage. A little sugar therapy never hurts anyone, and baking is my go-to coping mechanism I learned from my father.

By the time Jeremy's bike roars into the driveway—because of course it roars, like the man needs to make an entrance everywhere he goes—I've just tied the ribbon on the basket of cupcakes. His door slams with its usual finality, and I freeze for half a second.

Showtime.
