Chapter 63 - New Life DxD- Chapter 61

The tension enveloped the barrier that had been created to contain Gilgamesh and Valerie.

On one side was Valerie, with her power coursing through her body, and Walburga, with an arrogant smile on her face.

On the other side was Gilgamesh, facing Arthur and dozens of rogue magicians.

In one swift movement, Arthur drew Caliburn and raised it, causing a massive aura to emerge and gather around the sword. With a swing, Arthur sent a sphere of holy energy toward Gilgamesh.

The sphere of light and sacred energy advanced, destroying everything in its path toward the King of Heroes.

Gilgamesh simply punched the energy sphere, sending it flying far away. The sphere collided with a house in the background, which was destroyed.

At that same moment, all the magicians advanced against Gilgamesh, who made an irritated expression.

Why did these insignificant beings dare to attack him?

The magicians quickly raised their staves and created magical circles that fired everything at Gilgamesh.

Not wanting to waste time, Gilgamesh quickly opened his [Gate of Babylon].

The space behind Gilgamesh shattered. Countless golden halos emerged from the air, like stars appearing, golden points of light the size of an adult man's head. Ripples spread from them, as if stones had been thrown into a lake of molten gold, and as the light grew, objects appeared in the portals.

There was no limitation; Gilgamesh opened his treasures on a completely surreal level. Spears, swords, hammers, axes, maces, halberds, daggers. Countless legendary weapons stored in the [Gate of Babylon] floated in the air, all aimed at the approaching attacks before being launched one by one like a cannon firing.

All of Gilgamesh's treasures were launched against the magical powers, and everything was unmatched.

No matter the number of spells or the magical power, everything was futile against Gilgamesh's treasures.

Their attacks didn't work. None of them did. In the face of countless legendary weapons that kept coming, all their attempts were meaningless. No matter how many attacks they launched to counter them, the barrages of deadly weapons never stopped. The weaker weapons might break under their counterattacks, but soon ten more rose behind them, and whenever the weak broke, the strong replaced them, and their numbers were even greater.

It was countless. There was no hope. The weapons were infinite, raining down on them through thousands of golden halos floating around the golden-haired man. They were forced to stop attacking. All of them focused on defending and counterattacking after the deluge of blades and weapons.

But it was futile to try to defend when the weapons rained down on them.

It wasn't a battle or a fight. Calling what happened now a battle or fight would be mockery. A fight or battle is when two different sides try to kill and attack each other with equal strength. This, this wasn't that. This was a one-sided massacre, where one side wielded only stones, while the other had countless weapons.

It wasn't a competition. All the Noble Phantasms that were launched had the power to split mountains, descend hills, and destroy cities like a nuclear bomb if their true potential was unleashed. They were all weapons that the Hero wielded in the past and future, no matter how many spears and walls of light they created. No matter how imaginative and potent the power they produced. No matter how many runes and enchantments the magicians placed, they were all nothing compared to the countless weapons that reached the level of Legend and Myth.

Screams, groans, cries, and moans of agony echoed across the battlefield as thousands of golden stars struck the field, hitting the magicians. Their enhanced armor and cloaks did nothing when the Noble Phantasms rained down on them like comets falling from the sky, causing explosions whenever they struck, turning bodies into fireworks of coagulated blood as their flesh and blood splattered in all directions.

Amid all this chaos and destruction, Gilgamesh remained impassive as he looked at Arthur.

Arthur also showed no reaction, perhaps because his emotions were being suppressed, but even so, a glimmer of fear appeared in his eyes, along with anticipation for the battle.

Gilgamesh hadn't sent any weapons against Arthur because he wanted to fight the wielder of the Strongest Holy Sword personally.

Arthur quickly raised his sword and assumed a fighting stance with Caliburn, which gained a powerful holy aura.

Gilgamesh quickly summoned two swords, causing two glows, one in each hand, to appear.

In his right hand, a holy glow, which could be considered divine, appeared, and when it faded, a sword was revealed.

It was a typical Western sword, ninety centimeters long and twelve centimeters wide, with Fairy Letters inscribed to show it was not a work of humanity.

Although there are many other Noble Phantasms created more splendidly and with greater skill, this sword is an illusion far superior to them. It cannot be called beautiful because of its appearance, for the description of "beautiful" would only tarnish it. Instead, it is holy, made from the conceptions of people, a legend woven purely from hope. It is not a myth or an inhuman work, but a "crystal forged only by the heart," making it the strongest realm of fantasy. It is the crystallization of the prayer called "glory" and everything engraved in the hearts of those scattered under the sword's glow; the nostalgic, sad, and consecrated dream of those placed in the bloody hell called the battlefield, with all the warriors of the past, present, and future fully exposed to the fear of death and despair, and who still cling to a wish: "to be exalted."

The Sword of Promised Victory and the strongest holy sword, Excalibur.

Excalibur is a divine construct, the pinnacle of holy swords and the strongest holy sword, whose equal is the strongest demonic sword, Gram. One of the weapons forged by God, a Last Phantasm, forged by the planet as the crystallization of humanity's wishes stored and tempered within the planet. It was guarded by extensions of the planet, Fairies, before being briefly passed to King Arthur by the Lady of the Lake and then returned to the lake before his death.

If the sword in Gilgamesh's right hand was Excalibur, the strongest holy sword, the one in his left hand was its opposite.

It emanated a demonic aura of pure destruction.

It was a broad Western sword with a golden hilt and a long silver blade that radiated a demonic aura.

It is an unusual Noble Phantasm that came into existence as a magical sword despite possessing the attributes of the sun. Granted by his ancestor Odin, this sword is a rare weapon that not only selects a king but simultaneously brings glory, jealousy, ruin, and fate.

It was the strongest demonic sword, the sword of Dawn and Ruin, the sword of the Sun, Gram.

It is the "Sword of the Sun" wielded by Sigurd in the Völsunga Saga of Norse mythology. It was originally an enchanted sword wielded and pulled from the trunk of a mighty tree by Sigurd's father, Sigmund; later, it shattered in a confrontation with Gungnir and was reforged into a cursed demonic blade capable of killing even a dragon by Sigurd. After that, it became known as a "demonic sword of glory and ruin." It is said to be the strongest demonic sword that can only be matched by the strongest holy sword, Excalibur, and thus possesses the special characteristic of "dragon slayer."

The weapon is said to appear in *Der Ring des Nibelungen*, a legend of a knight akin to King Arthur under the guise of Balmung, but it is instead called the "origin" of Balmung wielded by Siegfried.

The incident of Gram being drawn from the tree by Sigmund within the halls of King Volsung is a legend of a "sword of selection" originating with the sword Merodach. Gram, "the sword of supremacy in the tree" from Northern Europe, was itself the model for Caliburn, the sword in the stone, possessed by King Arthur.

The two strongest swords, the holy and the demonic, were being wielded by Gilgamesh.

Naturally, wielding even one of them would be difficult, as, besides being a holy and a demonic sword, they had the right to select a King.

If wielding one was already difficult, wielding both would be nearly impossible.

But there was no sword that Gilgamesh could not wield.

The right side of Gilgamesh's body was enveloped in a holy and divine aura, extremely condensed, easily surpassing Arthur's Caliburn.

The left side of Gilgamesh's body was enveloped in a demonic aura that represented pure chaos and destruction, capable of making even the greatest warriors tremble.

Gilgamesh and Arthur quickly increased their auras.

"You're good, Arthur. It'll be great to fight you," said Gilgamesh before sighing. "However, it's disheartening that I have to fight you while your mind isn't fully here. If that were the case, then your tactical skills would surely help you during this battle. It's a pity; perhaps we could fight properly when you're back to normal."

When Gilgamesh spoke, it was possible to see Arthur's eyes gleam for a moment.

"However, I'm going all out," said Gilgamesh to Arthur, who gripped his sword more firmly.

In the next moment, both increased their auras before charging at each other, clashing their swords.

As for Walburga and Valerie, they stared at each other while increasing their powers.

Walburga quickly extended her hand and created dozens of magical circles that began firing large amounts of elemental attacks.

Bursts of fire, lightning, water, earth, and even light and shadows—the number of magical attacks was immense and didn't stop as they advanced toward Valerie.

Valerie also extended her hand, creating the same number of magical circles that fired their magic.

Valerie unleashed on a large scale, releasing vast amounts of flames, ice, water, lightning, storms, and darkness. She also used forbidden elemental magic spells to create a skull of purple flames, cyclones of curses, and black lightning.

Arrows of light were fired, orbs of darkness advanced toward Walburga, who created defensive magical circles.

For Walburga's attacks heading toward Valerie, walls of earth rose to block the magical waves fired.

Great water dragons were conjured by Valerie to devour Walburga's giant fireballs.

The sky filled with spears of fire, lightning, and light that Valerie fired at Walburga, who did her best to defend herself.

Nearly invisible wind blades headed toward Walburga, who distanced herself and created more protective magic or dodged with her teleportation magic.

Stones, some the size of a watermelon, advanced, created by Valerie.

Several lightning bolts headed toward Walburga; for every bolt Walburga defended, Valerie sent three more.

Valerie's magical talent was surreal; her magical mastery and talent surpassed that of Rias and Sona, a mastery over magic so great that it allowed Valerie to fight beings of the Ultimate class.

Walburga narrowed her eyes when she tried to send her magic against Valerie.

But no matter what magic Walburga used, Valerie would counter with the opposite element and with much more power.

Valerie had far greater magical power than Walburga. As a half-human, half-vampire, Valerie had vastly superior magical power compared to a magician like Walburga.

Deciding to end it quickly, Valerie created several magical circles in her hand and overlapped them.

Suddenly, an immense wave of water appeared in front of Valerie before the dhampir used her fire magic to completely boil the water and compress it into a single point, turning it into a sphere of pure energy.

Valerie quickly fired the sphere at Walburga, who laughed and created a defensive magical circle.

"You're going to attack me with that little energy ball?" Walburga asked sarcastically.

But the moment the sphere collided with the defensive circle, it expanded and caused an explosion that destroyed Walburga's defense, sending the woman flying far away.

Walburga quickly positioned herself in the air while blood dripped from parts of her body, and burns appeared on her right arm, to the woman's astonishment.

"What was that?" said Walburga, perplexed, as she had never seen such magic.

"Abhorrent Magic," said Valerie, smiling at Walburga.

"I've never heard of that magic," said Walburga, surprised.

"Obviously, since I created it," said Valerie to Walburga.

"What kind of magic is that?" asked Walburga, surprised.

Valerie smiled and didn't mind answering.

"A calamity… elemental magic is created naturally when we use magical circles and provoke these reactions to create them, but this magic of mine allows me to recreate natural disasters," said Valerie to Walburga, who widened her eyes.

Naturally, for a person to use magic, they use a magical circle that represents their magic and pour their magical power into it, so the magical circle would create the desired reaction for that magic.

But Valerie's magic was different.

Using various complex magical circles, she made the magic create the effect of natural disasters that would only occur in rare situations, a magic that Valerie developed after seeing Gilgamesh's use of [Zenith Tempest].

A very powerful magic that surpasses any elemental magic and is extremely difficult to learn, as it requires great magical power and concentration to create the commands for each reaction.

In the magic that Valerie fired at Walburga, she had created steam compressed under high pressure, the same principle as volcanoes.

If Walburga hadn't defended herself with a magical circle, she would have died.

Valerie didn't give Walburga time to think, creating dozens of orbs of abhorrent magic and launching them at Walburga.

Walburga began dodging the orbs, but they came from all possible directions.

Walburga quickly created and launched several of her magics, which, upon contact, caused Valerie's magics to explode.
