Elias's POV
As I approached the entrance, two guards straightened to attention. I recognized them both.
Marcus and David, both seasoned fighters who had served my father for years.
"Alpha," Marcus said formally, inclining his head in a gesture of respect that made my chest twist uncomfortably.
Alpha. Not "young Alpha" or "Alpha heir" or even just "Elias." They were calling me Alpha, acknowledging that the title had passed to me completely.
"Evening," I managed, my voice rougher than I'd intended. "I need to see the vampire prisoner."
"Of course, Alpha," David replied, stepping aside to let me pass. "He's in cell three. Been quiet mostly, but he's been asking for you. Do you need an escort?"
"No," I said quickly. The last thing I wanted was witnesses to whatever conversation I was about to have. "I'll be fine on my own."
