Chapter 1 - A new Beginning

Disclaimer: I do not own this Jump chain CYOA or Pokemon.

One moment I was walking home after finishing work, and the next I found myself filling out a Pokémon CYOA. Apparently, there's some powerful entity out there who enjoys watching people from different worlds go on adventures. This time, it chose me.

The deal is that I'll be spending the next three years in the Pokémon world, while time remains completely frozen in my home universe. Before sending me off, it gave me a budget to buy supplies, skills, and anything else that might help me survive and thrive in this new life.

In addition to everything else, I've also been granted a warehouse – a personal storage space beyond dimensions. I can access it using a special key that, when inserted into any door, transforms it into a gateway to my cosmic warehouse. Best of all, I can reach it from any universe I visit.

Inside, time stands still whenever the door is closed, keeping everything perfectly preserved. At the moment, it only has basic electricity and plumbing, but after I complete this jump, I'll be able to upgrade it with new features and utilities.

"I'm ready," I say firmly to the cosmic entity.

Ooooo

The first thing I noticed when I woke up was the light drizzle falling around me. The second was that I was lying in the middle of a grassy field. And the third… was that I was definitely shorter than before.

Looking down at myself, I saw that I was wearing black boots, blue jeans, and a white shirt under an open black hoodie. Beside me was a backpack – probably the one I chose in the CYOA.

"Draaaaa!"

A sudden cry snapped me out of my thoughts.

Turning towards the sound, I saw a Dratini being attacked by a Zubat.

"Hey! Leave her alone!" I shouted, grabbing my bag and sprinting towards them.

The Zubat immediately shifted its attention from Dratini to me. Its fangs glowed with a deep purple light as it launched itself at me at an alarming speed.

"Shit!" I cursed under my breath. I couldn't remember Zubat's exact moveset, but I knew enough to realise I'd be in serious trouble if I got bitten by whatever that was.

As it closed in, I quickly threw my backpack at its open mouth. Zubat bit down on it, clearly confused by the sudden attack. Without wasting a second, I grabbed the strap, yanked it towards me, and punched that damn bat as hard as I could.

It let out a screeching cry as it tumbled to the ground, releasing its grip on my bag. My hand felt like I had just punched a steel plate – the pain was intense, but adrenaline kept me going.

Acting on pure instinct, I reached into my bag, pulled out a Pokéball, and threw it at the stunned Zubat. The ball struck it right in the face, bursting open in a flash of red light that sucked the bat inside.

It rocked back and forth, blinking red. After three tense shakes, it finally let out a satisfying ping.

I stood there for a moment, breathing heavily, before bursting out into wild laughter.

"Oh God… that was freaking intense!" I shouted, unable to contain my exhilaration.

Then I suddenly remembered – I had a Pokédex. Digging into my bag, I pulled it out. It looked exactly like the Pokédex from the Kalos region.

I picked up Zubat's Pokéball and aimed the Pokédex's lens at it. The device split open in the middle, projecting a whitish-blue translucent screen displaying Zubat's data.

Zubat – The Bat Pokémon

Type: Poison/Flying

While flying, it constantly emits ultrasonic waves from its mouth to navigate its surroundings. Capable of flying safely in complete darkness, it uses ultrasonic cries to check for any obstacles.

Gender: Male

Height: 2'07"

Known Moves: Supersonic, Absorb, Astonish, Mean Look, Poison Fang

"Damn," I thought, "why didn't it use Supersonic before Poison Fang?"

In the games, Pokémon could only know four moves at a time, and even in the anime, most Pokémon stuck to that limit. But there were always exceptions – like Ash's Snorlax, which had more than four moves. I guess things worked differently in this world.

I felt something gently rubbing against my leg. Looking down, I saw the Dratini that Zubat had been attacking staring up at me with grateful eyes.

"Draa!" it cried softly. I guessed it was trying to say thank you.

Noticing bite marks along its back, I quickly pulled a potion from my bag. "Hey, buddy, stay still for a moment. This will help you heal faster," I said reassuringly. I sprayed the potion over its wounds, and to my relief, the bite marks began fading almost instantly.

I'd always loved Dragonite – it was my favourite Pokémon from Gen 1. So when I had the chance to choose a starter in the CYOA, I picked Dratini without hesitation. Raising one into a Dragonite was going to be epic.

There was asingle pokeball attach ed to my waist belt it must be Dratini's" Sleep for a little while buddy" I asked as Dratini continued marvelling at the potion's effects. It turned towards me with bright eyes. I then sent her inside her pokeball.

I pointed my Pokédex at the ball, and its translucent screen displayed Dratini's data:

Dratini – The Dragon Pokémon

It is born large to start with and repeatedly sheds its skin as it grows longer. This Pokémon is full of life energy and steadily grows larger with each shedding.

Gender: Female

Height: 4'5"

Ability: Shed Skin

Known Moves: Dragon Breath, Wrap, Twister, Leer

"Damn," I thought again. "How did she lose to a Zubat with Dragon Breath, was it because I wasn't there to command her?" Then I noticed her size. She was smaller than the average Dratini, which was usually around 5'11". She must still be a child.

A soft smile crossed my face. It didn't matter if she was weak right now. In time, she was going to become an absolute powerhouse.

I took a deep breath and looked around. I still didn't know which version of the Pokémon world I was in. First things first – I needed information. Finding the nearest town would be the best start. If I remembered correctly, Pokémon Centers also provided free food and shelter to trainers.

I pulled out my Pokégear and checked the map. It took a few minutes to figure out the navigation, but eventually, I found my location.

I was somewhere between Pallet Town and Viridian City.

"Well then," I whispered to myself, "next stop – Viridian City."

Ooooo

Before starting my journey, I decided it would be best to clear the air with Zubat and make sure both it and Dratini were on the same page.

Fun fact – Pokéballs can attach to a trainer's belt and automatically shrink to a compact size. Pretty cool, right? I still had three empty Pokéballs and three Master Balls left. I kept all my regular Pokéballs and one Master Ball in mini-size in my pocket for easy access.

"Come on out," I said as I released both Zubat and Dratini.

"Draa!" Dratini greeted me happily.

Zubat, meanwhile, just hovered silently in the air, not even creating the slightest breeze. It looked pretty annoyed.

"Hey, look… I want to apologise for punching you earlier," I began. "But to be fair, you attacked me first – and you attacked Dratini too."

Dratini glared daggers at Zubat from my side.

"Zuuuuu!" Zubat screeched in response. I had no idea what it said, but it didn't sound friendly.

"Listen, buddy. If you want to leave, I'll release you right now. You're free to go," I told it sincerely. "But if you decide to stay, I promise you good food, safety, and a life where you don't have to fight for survival every single day. And more importantly… I'll make you stronger than any other Zubat out there."

I gave it a moment to think. Zubat floated silently, contemplating my words. Finally, it chirped, "Zu, Zu."

Did… did it just agree? Or maybe it said "eyes"? It was hard to tell with just sound cues, but I took it as a yes.

I glanced down at Dratini, who was still glaring at Zubat. "Hey, you should apologise to Dratini for attacking her," I told Zubat firmly.

Zubat hovered in place for a moment, then drifted towards Dratini. "Zu," it squeaked softly.

"Dra!" Dratini huffed, turning her head away with a small harrumph.

I chuckled under my breath. At least that was settled for now.

Oooo

It took me about an hour to reach Viridian City, and by the time I arrived, the sky was already dimming into twilight. Street lamps flickered to life, casting a warm glow over the clean, well-maintained roads.

Viridian City felt… normal, yet extraordinary at the same time. The layout reminded me of any modern city back home, but there was an unmistakable sense of adventure in the air. People of all appearances filled the streets – some with green, blue, or even stark white hair, while others wore full adventuring gear: cargo pants, thick jackets, hiking boots, and utility belts lined with Pokéballs.

Trainers walked alongside their Pokémon companions, some perched on their shoulders, others trailing obediently behind. I saw a boy walking with a Machop carrying his grocery bags effortlessly and a girl feeding her Butterfree with nectar treats.

As I entered deeper into the city, I spotted a massive lake at the city's edge. It connected seamlessly to a river or stream that wound down Route 1. The lake shimmered under the fading light, ripples dancing across its surface as a group of Psyduck splashed near the shore.

On my way here, I'd come across plenty of wild Pokémon. Rattata scurried in and out of the grass, Pidgey and Spearow flocked in the skies, and I even saw a Mankey perched on a tree branch, staring at me suspiciously as I passed by.

Despite the bustling activity, finding the Pokémon Center wasn't difficult. After asking a few locals for directions – including a kind old man with a Growlithe at his side – I finally spotted its familiar red roof and large Pokéball emblem glowing under the evening sky.

Taking a deep breath, I stepped into the Pokémon Center. The clean, bright interior felt welcoming after the long walk. I headed straight to the counter and handed over Zubat and Dratini to Nurse Joy so she could check them over and restore their strength.

"Don't worry," she said with a kind smile. "Your Pokémon will be just fine."

While they were being treated, I walked over to the row of public computers in the corner of the lobby and sat down. I needed to gather as much information as I could about this world before setting out on my journey.

As I scrolled through various forums, articles, and trainer databases, I learned quite a bit. For one, being a Pokémon Trainer was actually a lucrative profession. Trainers could earn money through battles, sponsorships, or even by helping with field research.

I also discovered that Pokédexes weren't common items. They were only given to specially selected trainers, usually by professors, and were linked directly to a registered trainer ID and bank account. Curious, I pulled out my Pokédex and navigated to my trainer profile.

Name- Skylar Johnson

Age- 14

Home- Kanto

Pokedollars- 100,000

Pokemon Owned- 2

Seeing my name officially displayed there made everything feel more real.

Further research revealed that a trainer's earnings depended on several factors: their age, experience, and the number of trainers they had defeated. Battling gym leaders, in particular, brought in significant prize money compared to regular trainer battles.

I also found out that the Indigo League – Kanto's grand annual tournament – was scheduled to take place in ten months. A sense of excitement bubbled in my chest at the thought of competing there.

One thing that surprised me, though, TMs are a thing in this world. They are apparently created by infusing knowledge of a Pokemon onto what basically amounts to a computer disc that could then be applied through a pokeball to a captured Pokemon. The only downside to it though, was that upon creating the TM, the Pokemon who done so would then lose the knowledge on how to perform it themselves.

When it came to money, the currency here worked exactly like back in my old world. However, anything related to Pokémon – Pokéballs, potions, food, or training gear – was incredibly expensive. I'd need to spend wisely to make sure I didn't burn through my savings too quickly.

As I leaned back in the chair, my mind buzzed with plans for tomorrow. For the first time in forever, my future felt… exciting.

A few minutes later, Nurse Joy approached me with a warm smile, holding out two shrunken Pokéballs.

"Here you go," she chirped cheerfully. "Your Zubat and Dratini weren't in any serious condition. Just half an hour in the restoration machine and they're both back to full health."

"Thank you so much," I said sincerely, taking the Pokéballs from her and clipping them to my belt.

She glanced at me with a knowing smile. "You know, Dratini is quite a rare Pokémon. You're very lucky to have one."

I nodded, unable to stop the small smile forming on my lips. "Yeah… we only met today, but it already feels like we were meant to find each other."

Nurse Joy gave me an encouraging nod before returning to the counter to assist another trainer.

As I stood there, planning my next steps, my mind wandered to the journey ahead. My best move would be to train in Viridian Forest to build up my team's strength before heading towards Pewter City to challenge Brock for the Boulder Badge.

But I knew defeating him wouldn't be easy. With only Zubat and Dratini, my options were limited – neither had any real advantage against Rock types. Maybe it was time to think about catching a Water-type Pokémon or even a Grass-type before I faced him.

I thanked Nurse Joy again before heading towards the accommodation area. To my relief, I managed to find an empty room. Apparently, it was quite rare to find a vacant room in a Pokémon Center, as they were usually packed with traveling trainers seeking rest.

Closing the door behind me, I dropped my bag onto the small desk, slipped off my shoes, and stretched out on the bed. My body felt heavy from exhaustion, but my mind buzzed with excitement.

Oooo

The next morning, I woke up with a strange, suffocating feeling pressing down on my chest. Groggily opening my eyes, I found Dratini curled up on top of me, her smooth, scaly body coiled comfortably as she slept. Looking around, I saw Zubat clinging to the top corner of the room, wings wrapped around himself like a bat burrito. I had let them both out of their Pokéballs last night so they could sleep freely.

"Hey girl, wake up," I whispered softly, gently lifting Dratini off my chest and placing her on the bed beside me. "It's time to get a move on."

Stretching out my sore limbs, I headed to the bathroom. As I stood in front of the mirror, I couldn't help but stare at my reflection in surprise. "Damn… I'm jacked," I muttered under my breath.

Before my jump, I'd been 6'1" with a decently built frame, but now I stood at around 5'7". Despite being shorter, my body was lean and muscular in ways I didn't even think were possible. Defined shoulders, strong arms, toned abs – I looked like someone who had trained extensively for years. My hair was black, slightly messy but framing my face well, and my eyes were a deep black too, giving me an intense but calm appearance.

After taking a long, refreshing shower, I changed back into my usual clothes: black boots, blue jeans, a white shirt, and my open black hoodie. Once I was ready, I returned Dratini and Zubat to their Pokéballs and headed downstairs, my stomach growling loudly in protest.

The Pokémon Center's cafeteria was spacious and warm, filled with trainers chatting over breakfast. I grabbed a tray and served myself a hearty meal. The best part? It was all free. They even had Pokémon food stations, so Dratini and Zubat were able to enjoy their breakfast alongside me.

After we were all fed and energised, I made my way towards Viridian City's market area. It was bustling with morning shoppers, trainers, and merchants advertising their goods.

"Time to spend some money," I whispered to myself.

I picked up some basic clothes, extra socks, and underwear to keep myself stocked for the next month or so. I also bought a month's supply of food for myself and my Pokémon, along with camping essentials: a sturdy tent, a warm sleeping bag, climbing rope, a metal lighter, and other survival necessities.

At a general store, I grabbed a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, and basic cooking utensils. Before leaving, I restocked my trainer essentials – buying six new Pokéballs, three potions, and three antidotes since I was heading into Viridian Forest, where Poison-types were common.

By the time I was done, I had spent roughly 24,000 Pokédollars, leaving me with about 76,000. I carefully packed everything into my Pokémon bag. Despite looking small from the outside, its storage capacity was huge, and the best part was that no matter how much I stored, its weight never increased.

As I walked back towards the city's northern gate, a bag resting comfortably on my shoulder, a sense of excitement welled up inside me.

Oooo

As I left the city behind and walked towards Viridian Forest, I decided it was a good time to let my team stretch a bit. I released Dratini and Zubat from their Pokéballs. Dratini slithered alongside me happily while Zubat hovered overhead, flapping his wings silently as he scouted our surroundings.

It took me about half an hour of steady walking to reach the entrance of Viridian Forest. The transition from the city's concrete roads to the forest's natural beauty was almost seamless, and I felt a sense of calm wash over me as I stepped onto the dirt path leading inside.

The forest was breathtaking. Towering, lush green trees formed a natural canopy above, letting scattered rays of sunlight peek through and dance along the forest floor. The grass underfoot was short and springy, making walking comfortable. The path ahead was clear, winding deeper into the forest, with small open clearings dotted along the way.

All around us, the forest was alive with sound – the melodic chirping of Pidgey, the rustling of Bug-type Pokémon among the leaves, and the occasional distant call of something much larger. It was a cacophony of life, both chaotic and beautiful.

I stopped for a moment, turning towards Dratini and Zubat. "Alright, you two," I said firmly, "our first task is to beat Brock and get that Boulder Badge."

Dratini raised her head proudly while Zubat chirped in agreement.

"So, we have two options. First, we can train here until you both gain enough strength to stand a chance against him. Second, we could catch a Water-type Pokémon to cover our weakness against his Rock-types."

Suddenly, I heard a buzzing sound nearby.

Bzz…

Bzzzz…

"Looks like we've got our first opponent," I said, a smirk forming on my face as I turned towards the noise.

Emerging from behind a tree was a Beedrill, its sharp stingers gleaming dangerously as its wings beat rapidly, keeping it hovering in place while it glared at us.

"Alright then," I whispered, excitement bubbling in my chest. "Let's see what you've got."
