Landon's POV
"Tell me more about the shadow wolves."
Those had been my words to Fenris since we began walking back to his modest home in the wild. I had even forgotten about my plans to escape, so determined I was to draw the truth from him. But each time, Fenris was reluctant. His silence wasn't careless as he was deliberately holding back, avoiding the subject as if it carried weight too heavy to speak aloud.
Yet, from his expressions, I could tell his reasons were different. The guards I had questioned earlier had laughed, but their eyes betrayed them. They were afraid. Terrified even as though the very name shadow wolves was forbidden to pass their lips.
But with Fenris, it wasn't fear. No, it was avoidance. A deliberate shutting of a door he refused to open.
