Chapter 12 - Chapter 12:The training part 2

Aika's eyes blazed with unyielding determination as he gripped the controls of his mech, Arthris. Today, he wasn't just piloting a machine; he was proving himself. Every movement, every strike of his energy blades reflected his will to surpass expectations. The battlefield stretched before him, a chaotic arena of fire, smoke, and monstrous aliens wreaking havoc. This time, Isegi was also present, her mech poised at a distance, analyzing the battlefield with calculated precision.

The deployment of mechs was complete. Each one bristled with weapons and energy, a testament to humanity's technological supremacy. Every mech shone under the harsh light of the battlefield, their armor reflecting flashes of energy blasts and the faint glow of distant fires. Arthris surged forward, its sensors locking onto a hulking alien that towered over the surrounding wreckage. With blinding speed, Aika's mech lunged, seizing the creature's face in a crushing grip. The alien let out a deafening roar as Arthris's immense strength pulverized its skull, leaving crimson streams staining the battlefield.

Nearby, Ironclad Rex, a massive, hulking machine built like a fortress, waded through the alien ranks like a juggernaut. Each swing of its reinforced arms shattered alien armor and splintered bones as if they were mere twigs. Smaller mechs darted between the chaos, their pilots showing growing competence in these deadly exercises. Sparks and debris flew everywhere, the forest around them crumbling under the force of their attacks.

Aika, now fully attuned to his mech's energy systems, activated his newly installed Phantom Edge blades. These weapons, forged from the Helios energy extracted from a fragment of his scythe, hummed with lethal potential. The blades' sharpness and energy flow made every strike devastating. He sliced through alien after alien, precision cutting through limbs and core structures alike. Until, suddenly, a gargantuan alien appeared, its massive claws pinning Arthris before hurling the mech like a projectile across the battlefield. Pain surged through Arthris's systems as a devastating energy beam seared the mech's shoulder.

"Huh… a tough one," Aika muttered, grit hardening his voice. "Still… not a match for me."

With unwavering determination, he channeled energy into Arthris's arm, the Phantom Edges igniting with blinding intensity. Dodging the scratches and strikes of the alien, he propelled himself toward it. His fists, ablaze with energy, struck the alien's core with pinpoint precision. The alien convulsed violently, its body splintering and erupting into fragments before finally collapsing. Aika calmly marked his sixth kill, though his breathing remained steady, his mind already calculating his next engagement.

From the command camp, Kagetsu's eyes widened at the display of skill. "What the hell! The reports Kaito sent me on this Aika… they barely do him justice. That kid has immense potential. He's far more precise than expected."

Kazenami, lounging casually nearby with a playful smirk, waved without turning. "Well, well, well… looks like you're on your own, Kagetsu."

Kagetsu froze. "What? Right now? You're going to leave me supervising this chaos alone?"

Kazenami chuckled. "Exactly. Time for some video games. Bye-bye!"

Kagetsu groaned, shaking his head. "That guy will never take anything seriously."

Back on the battlefield, Shido piloted the Stormfang XO-8, facing a massive alien standing at an imposing 152 meters. A hiss of acid sprayed from the alien, corroding the mech's torso. Most pilots would have faltered, but Shido grinned, a mixture of thrill and focus lighting his eyes.

"Ha! Now, face this!" he shouted, his voice echoing over the battlefield. "Stormbreaker Bursting!"

Stormfang's limbs churned the air with hurricane-like force, arcs of lightning crackling over the mech's metal frame. The combination of wind and electrical energy tore through alien flesh and armor alike, shredding it from the inside out. Though the alien retaliated, damaging Stormfang's upper arm, Shido remained relentless.

"It's enough," he muttered. He merged the mech's core energy with its limbs, each arm and leg now a conduit of raw elemental power. When he landed the final blow—a distance punch—the shockwave obliterated the alien in a blinding flash, evaporating its body instantly.

"And that makes my fourth kill!" Shido bellowed in triumph, his voice carrying over the battlefield, full of pride and uncontainable excitement.

Meanwhile, Isegi faced a particularly vexing alien whose regenerative abilities were extraordinary. Each strike she landed seemed to vanish almost instantly, its body knitting itself back together as if mocking her.

"This won't do. I need a strategy," Isegi muttered, analyzing the alien's movements with surgical precision. Her mind raced, predicting angles and calculating timing down to fractions of a second. "This one's no ordinary foe… its regeneration is off the charts."

Formulating a plan, she fired a series of decoy missiles, the explosions shrouding the alien in smoke. With the enemy momentarily distracted, she readied her spear—Voltrix Tyrant's Total Eclipse form, the spear now an obsidian manifestation of concentrated energy, brimming with deadly potential.

"Core found," she whispered to herself. Black lightning snaked along the spear as she hurled it at the alien's vulnerable spot. The ensuing explosion rocked the battlefield, sending shards of alien material flying in every direction. When the smoke cleared, the creature was gone, disintegrated completely. Isegi exhaled, her mech systems flickering from exertion.

Rai moved through the battlefield like a whirlwind, his brutal claws tearing through aliens with frightening precision. Each strike was calculated, each kill a demonstration of raw efficiency and savagery.

Kaien faced a massive Vorgulak, an A-class kaiju walking on four immense legs. The beast's presence alone was enough to shake the ground, and its roar reverberated across the battlefield. Kaien fired frost rounds at its limbs, successfully immobilizing the creature's legs, preventing any chance of escape or counterattack. The Vorgulak retaliated with ferocious beams from its mouth, which Kaien narrowly dodged with expert timing. Switching to heavy blasting rounds, he tore into its core, exposing the heart of the beast.

"There it is… the core," Kaien muttered. He fired a concentrated blast, obliterating the creature in a spectacular display of fire and ice. "Six kills so far!"

All around them, the battlefield bore the scars of relentless combat. Trees splintered, the soil burned and churned, and the air was thick with smoke, the scent of ozone and scorched metal mingling with the faint metallic tang of alien blood. Aika's kill count had risen to twelve, a number that reflected not only his growing skill but his ruthlessness and precision.

Even minor mechs had their moments, zipping across the field, providing covering fire or exploiting openings in alien formations. The symphony of destruction played out under a sky streaked with smoke and flashes of energy, creating a scene that was part nightmare, part awe-inspiring spectacle of war machines and human determination.

Suddenly, a voice echoed through the battlefield comms, cutting through the chaos.

"Okay, pilots! Well done! The aliens have been neutralized, and the training exercise is complete. Leave your mechs and proceed to the camp!" Kagetsu's announcement carried both relief and admiration, a rare break in his usually stern demeanor.

Following orders, the pilots disengaged, their mechs slowly powering down, the massive machines creaking and whirring as they came to a halt. They trudged toward the camp, exhaustion mingling with satisfaction. The ground beneath them bore the scars of combat—craters, torn vegetation, and smoldering embers a testament to the ferocity of their battle.

Aika glanced back at Arthris, the mech's frame scorched but intact. He allowed himself a small, triumphant smile. Today, he had proven his skill, his instinct, and his resolve. But deep down, he knew this was only the beginning. The battlefield was vast, the threats more complex, and he would have to become stronger—faster, smarter, more precise—to face what lay ahead.

As the camp drew nearer, the sounds of quiet conversations and movement reached them. Pilots exchanged battle reports, laughed about close calls, and silently measured their own growth against one another. There was camaraderie here, yes, but also a simmering determination—everyone wanted to improve, to be better than the last encounter, to master their mechs and their weapons.

Kagetsu watched them arrive, a small, rare smile tugging at his lips. Even Kazenami, preoccupied with his handheld device, glanced up once, though the smirk never left his face. The day had been brutal, but it had also been a success—a testament to skill, strategy, and courage in the face of overwhelming odds.

And yet, in the distance, faint ripples in the air hinted at future threats, a reminder that the battlefield was never truly safe. Aika felt it too, a chill that wasn't entirely from fatigue. He clenched his fists inside Arthris's cockpit, his resolve hardening. Whatever came next, he would be ready.
