Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Mystic Crest Awakens

The car sped down winding roads, the headlights slicing through the darkness. Elvira didn't know how long they had been driving, but the silence inside the car was suffocating. The figure beside her remained unmoving, their gaze fixed forward, never acknowledging her.

She tried to steady her breathing, focusing on the emptiness outside. *Where am I going?* she thought again, her mind spinning. Mystic Crest was more than just a school. It was a place of whispers, rumors, and legends. She had heard of it, of course—who hadn't? The elite academy that trained only the strongest of magical beings, those with powers so vast and dangerous, it was said that no one left unscathed.

But Elvira wasn't like them. She wasn't like anyone here.

*What if I'm not strong enough? What if I fail?*

Her fingers tightened around the fabric of her dress. She wanted to scream, to cry, to somehow stop this from happening. But the car was already on its final approach. The end of her old life and the beginning of something she couldn't even begin to understand.

As the car came to a stop, Elvira's eyes widened. The gates before her were tall, made of black iron, adorned with strange, intricate symbols that seemed to shimmer in the moonlight. The logo of Mystic Crest Academy glowed faintly at the top—an owl, wings spread wide, hovering over a crescent moon.

The doors of the car opened before she could react, and the driver stepped out, his dark eyes never leaving her.

"Welcome to Mystic Crest," the figure beside her said quietly, his voice laced with cold finality. "Your new life begins here."

Elvira hesitated. She had no choice but to step out. As her foot hit the ground, a shiver ran down her spine. The air felt different here—thick, charged, as if the very atmosphere was alive with power. The gates creaked open slowly, revealing a long, winding path lined with towering trees whose branches seemed to reach for the sky like outstretched fingers.

"Follow me," the figure said. "Don't lag behind."

Elvira followed obediently, her heart hammering in her chest as she looked around. The academy loomed in the distance—an ancient, gothic structure that seemed to blend into the night. The stone walls were covered in ivy, windows dark and imposing. There was no sign of life, no welcoming lights, only shadows that seemed to stretch endlessly across the grounds.

They walked through the massive stone archway that led into the courtyard, and Elvira's breath caught. It was like stepping into another world—an eerie, unsettling world. The courtyard was filled with statues of strange creatures, each one more grotesque and beautiful than the last. There was a fountain at the center, but the water inside it didn't move. It was frozen, dark, like it was holding secrets no one was meant to uncover.

"Stay close," the figure warned again, as they passed a large, imposing building to the right.

Elvira nodded, but her mind was racing. This place was nothing like she had imagined. She had heard stories about the school being dangerous, but now that she was here… it felt more like a prison. The walls closed in on her, the weight of the place pressing down.

They finally reached a grand set of double doors, intricately carved with symbols she couldn't understand. The figure stopped in front of them, raising his hand to the door.

"Your initiation begins now," he said.

The doors opened with a loud groan, revealing a large hall. The walls were adorned with tapestries depicting scenes of battles, magic, and strange creatures. The floor was covered in a dark red carpet, leading up to a massive staircase that wound upward.

"Follow me," the figure ordered again, leading her up the stairs.

Elvira took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. *What is happening to me?* Her heart raced with uncertainty. This was real. This was her new life. She couldn't turn back now.

As they reached the top of the stairs, the figure led her down a narrow hallway. The walls were lined with doors, each one slightly ajar, giving her glimpses of what lay beyond—rooms filled with magic, power, and mystery.

Finally, they stopped at a door at the end of the hallway. The figure knocked twice before entering, pushing the door open.

Inside was a large room, dimly lit by the glow of floating candles. There was a desk at the center, and behind it, a woman sat, her expression unreadable. She was dressed in robes of midnight blue, her long hair cascading over her shoulders like a waterfall of darkness. Her eyes were the color of the night sky—deep, endless, and unfathomable.

"Elvira Blaze, I presume," the woman said, her voice smooth and commanding. "I am Headmistress Selene. Welcome to Mystic Crest."

Elvira froze, the weight of the woman's gaze sending chills down her spine.

Headmistress Selene stood, walking around the desk toward Elvira. "You are here because of your powers. But what I need to know is… *What kind of power are you really hiding?*"

Elvira's heart skipped a beat. She opened her mouth to speak, but the words caught in her throat.

"I… I don't understand," she whispered. "What do you mean?"

Headmistress Selene smiled, though the expression didn't reach her eyes. "The Council has been watching you. *We* have been watching you. You may have arrived here as an unknown, but I have my suspicions."

The air in the room grew colder, the shadows shifting as if alive. "There are five powers inside you, Elvira. You may have discovered the first three, but there's more—things that even you can't comprehend. If you truly wish to survive here… you must embrace them. All of them."

Elvira took a step back, her breath coming faster now. She could feel it—an almost suffocating pressure building in the room.

"You can either fight it… or let it consume you," the Headmistress said softly, her gaze never leaving Elvira's face.

And with those words, Elvira's world shifted again.

As Elvira stood frozen, her mind racing with questions, a cold chill ran through her body. Something in the room shifted. *Was it the air?* Or something far darker? She wasn't sure. But she could feel it. The power inside her, surging, waking. And she had no idea how to control it. Not yet.
