Chapter 2 - Creatures of Unknown Origin

Centuries ago, the world was ordinary, no magic, no superpowers just a normal life. But that changed with one catastrophic event that shook the very foundations of reality. Monsters, creatures of unknown origin. began to appear without warning, leaving behind trails of destruction and tragedy.

With humanity pushed to the brink, hope emerged in an unexpected form: individuals who awakened abilities beyond human comprehension. These people, now known as Ability Users, became the frontline defense against the monstrous threat.

Generations later, in an effort to contain global panic and prevent mass chaos, the governments of the world united and formed a covert organization: AUAF (Ability Users Action Force). Operating from the shadows, AUAF deploys its elite ability users to battle the monsters and investigate their origin an enigma that has remained unsolved for centuries.

The monsters, dubbed simply as "Monsters" due to their brutal and merciless nature, are classified by the AUAF according to their threat levels:

SSS-Rank – The most catastrophic of all. These monsters are capable of wiping out entire civilizations. The first known SSS-Rank monster led to a global disaster, killing millions.

SS-Rank – Nearly as dangerous, these include monsters responsible for historical calamities such as the Black Death of the 14th century, now believed to have been caused by a bio-plague-type monster.

S to F-Rank – A scale descending by threat level. While F and E-rank monsters can be taken down with modern weaponry, anything ranked D and above requires the intervention of Ability Users.

Just as monsters are ranked based on their threat levels, Ability Users are also categorized by the strength, rarity, and control of their powers.

SSS-Rank –

The rarest and most powerful ability users. These individuals are said to appear only once in a century. The last recorded SSS-rank user was the legendary figure who defeated the first SSS-ranked monster centuries ago. Reaching this level requires not just raw power, but unmatched talent, years of discipline, and perfect mastery over one's ability.

SS-Rank –

Elite-level users capable of taking on large-scale threats or high-ranking monsters alone or with minimal support. Extremely rare, but not entirely unheard of. Often serve as commanders or special operatives in AUAF missions.

S to D-Rank –

Most trained combat-ready ability users fall within these tiers.

S-Rank: High-level agents, capable of leading squads or taking down A-rank monsters.

A-Rank: Reliable and seasoned users. Powerful, but not yet at the elite level.

B-Rank & C-Rank: Mid-tier operatives with solid potential and field experience.

D-Rank: Entry-level combatants with developing abilities. Still require supervision.

E & F-Rank –

Newly awakened individuals. Their powers are unstable or underdeveloped, and they are not yet suited for frontline missions. Most of these users undergo basic training and evaluation before any deployment.

Ability users are also classified by the nature of their powers, divided into three major categories:

1. Spiritual Type

Users whose abilities are linked to the mind, perception, or soul.

2. Force Type

Users with physical-based enhancements or destructive capabilities.

3. Special Type

Abilities that either combine both Spiritual and Force traits or are entirely unique and unclassifiable. These users often possess highly unpredictable or rare powers.

Only a chosen few know the truth. The rest of the world continues living in blissful ignorance, unaware of the silent war raging in the shadows fought by those who wield power, against creatures born of nightmares.

The car Samuel rode in cruised smoothly along the road, the soft hum of the engine barely audible. His steel-blue eyes, cool and detached, stared out the window at the night sky, barely paying attention to the blur of city lights that streaked past.

Boredom clung to him like a second skin.

The streetlights turned into hazy streaks as the vehicle sped through the city. Samuel stifled a yawn and leaned back against the headrest, the chill of the windowpane brushing his temple.

Out of the corner of his eye, he glanced at Elizabeth sitting beside him. Her expression was sharp and focused, her attention buried in the pile of evidence and notes she held from their latest case. Occasionally, she would glance at Samuel no doubt sensing the weight of his boredom and restlessness.

Moments later, the car slowed to a stop at the edge of an abandoned industrial district one marked by recent reports of monster activity.

Samuel stepped out first, his long legs stretching as he stood, casting his eyes over the darkened surroundings with little interest. His eyes scanned the area with a detached expression, his posture relaxed despite the mission ahead. Another yawn escaped him.

Elizabeth followed close behind, her stance taut and eyes sharp, the light from a nearby lamp casting a soft glow on her face. She scanned the scene with the precision of someone trained and disciplined, already piecing together possibilities in her head.

"Don't be so uptight, Elizabeth," Samuel teased, a lopsided grin playing on his lips. His eyes sparkled with mischief, clearly unfazed by the seriousness of their task.

Elizabeth's temple twitched as she drew in a slow breath, forcing herself to remain calm. She rolled her eyes, clearly unamused. "We need to focus. This mission is important. We don't have time for your antics."

Samuel chuckled under his breath, genuinely entertained by her reaction. He shoved his hands into his pockets and took another look around, scanning for any signs of their target.
