Chapter 105: Dungeon Delivery, Is Shirou a Dad Now?

Shirou was determined to forge Avalon (Distant Utopia), the scabbard for Lefiya.

Only by crafting this special scabbard, capable of healing any wound, could he feel at ease letting her participate in the crusade against the dark faction.

Otherwise, he might even force her to give up the mission.

After all, Lefiya had just become his disciple, and Shirou could never allow her to join an operation that could very well cost her life.

Thus, Shirou went straight to the forge of the Hephaestus Familia and threw himself into the creation of the Noble Phantasm.

Soon, he realized that Avalon was entirely different from ordinary magical items.

Its structure was far too complex—far beyond any common weapon.

Fortunately, Shirou possessed projection magic.

Using that power, he was able to dissect most of the internal structure, forcefully unraveling even the incomprehensible parts.

Still, it took him an entire day just to complete a rough blueprint for Avalon.

But even with a design, the materials required posed a major problem.

Ordinary steel clearly wouldn't cut it for a relic of this caliber.

As with Enkidu, a divine-class weapon, forging something of Avalon's level demanded equally rare materials—at least something dropped by a "Monster Rex"-class monster.

"Guess I'm going to hunt another Monster Rex…"

Shirou, being someone of swift execution, disguised himself as the "Sword Demon" and made his way directly to the entrance of the dungeon.

Once inside, he swiftly advanced past the first ten levels, heading straight for the deeper 20th floor and below.

Although Avalon wasn't a divine artifact and technically Shirou could project it directly, its unique traits made it impossible to forge with normal materials.

He figured the only way to make it work was to use materials from a Monster Rex found on floor 20 or deeper.

And he remembered a particular floor boss on the 27th floor—Amphisbaena, a two-headed dragon known for its exceptional regenerative abilities.

According to Naaza from Apothecary Street, its ground dragon scales could be used to create high-tier healing potions, making it an extremely valuable resource.

Driven by this intel, Shirou headed straight for the 27th floor.

This floor resembled an underground river system, covered in lakes and streams that interconnected with other levels.

Once there, Shirou immediately began searching for the boss monster.

But even after killing his way through the entire floor, he couldn't find Amphisbaena.

That meant one of two things:

The boss had already been killed and hadn't respawned. It had roamed to another level.

According to adventurers, Amphisbaena actually moved between floors 25 to 27, making it notoriously difficult to locate.

Shirou had only gone to the 27th floor hoping for luck, but upon failing to find it, he realized locating the boss in time was almost impossible.

With the Loki Familia possibly mobilizing at any moment, Shirou had to complete Avalon before then.

"What do I do now…"

As he hesitated, the dungeon around him began to tremble violently.

As if responding to his voice, the calm dungeon suddenly erupted—water from lakes surged several meters upward.

From the rising waters emerged a massive dragon-like creature.

"!!!"

Staring at the twin-headed sea dragon, Shirou stood dumbfounded.

It was Amphisbaena, the very floor boss he had been searching for—as if summoned by Shirou's will, it appeared right in front of him!

"This… is actually happening?"

Shirou couldn't help but feel like the dungeon had heard him and delivered what he asked for.

This wasn't the first time something like this had happened.

Back when he forged Enkidu, the dungeon had somehow cooperated, clearing monsters from the level so he could work in peace.

Now, it literally delivered the floor boss to him.

Such an exaggerated coincidence made Shirou fall into deep thought.

Could the dungeon possess sentience?

Was it aware of his existence? Was it… trying to please him?

Otherwise, how could this be explained?

The only plausible connection Shirou could think of was his forging of Enkidu, a chain designed to bind divine power.

Perhaps the dungeon saw this act as a declaration of war against the gods—and regarded Shirou as a kindred spirit or even an ally?

So when Shirou wanted Amphisbaena, the dungeon obediently gave it to him.

"Do you really hate the gods that much?" Shirou muttered as he looked at the walls. Though he knew there would be no answer, he spoke anyway.

"Sorry, I may not be your ally. I don't think all gods are evil. I only eliminate those I deem wicked—nothing more."

Finishing his monologue, Shirou turned to face the now-stunned Amphisbaena.

It looked like a confused animal sent to slaughter—leisurely swimming one moment, only to end up before a butcher the next.

But Shirou didn't hesitate.

To protect Lefiya, he had to forge Avalon—no matter what.

He raised his hands and declared:

"Trace On!

Vanish!!"

A storm of swords manifested behind him.

With deadly precision, they launched at the two-headed dragon.

The 27th floor echoed with a shriek unlike any heard before.

Amphisbaena was slain.

Its cooldown for respawn had begun.

The drops: its dragon scales and dragon liver.

Upon returning from the 27th floor, Shirou now held these two rare drops.

Usually, Monster Rexs only dropped one item, but this time he received two—possibly a sign of great luck… or another "gift" from the dungeon.

But since the dungeon couldn't talk, Shirou had no way to confirm it.

"These highly regenerative scales are perfect for forging Avalon," he murmured. "But what should I use the dragon liver for…?"

Thinking about the materials, Shirou returned to the 20th floor.

It had once been overtaken by mutated plants, but was now completely restored—no monsters, and the paths looked just as they used to.

He marveled at the dungeon's incredible regeneration ability.

He descended to the 19th floor next.

Intending to head to the safe zone on the 18th floor for a rest, he was surprised to see large groups of adventurers hunting there.

This wasn't unusual, so Shirou didn't think much of it.

But then he noticed something strange—he didn't recognize the emblem on the adventurers' Familia.

Having lived in this world for a long time, Shirou had a decent understanding of most Familia in Orario, but this group was unfamiliar.

Still, assuming it was a minor Familia he hadn't encountered, Shirou didn't bother investigating.

As he walked past them, his sharp senses caught movement in a shadow by the path.

A small figure was hiding there.

It was a girl—only around 7 or 8 years old, with long blue hair and red eyes.

She looked terrified, wrapping herself tightly in her own arms.

What's a child doing in the dungeon?

Could she be a Pallum?

Shirou stopped instinctively, but quickly noticed something was off.

The girl had features not found on humans: wings, fangs, and dragon scales.

"A monster…?"

Shirou froze.

He hadn't expected to see a monster so humanoid in form.

But he had heard of such things—monsters that looked so much like people that adventurers would lower their guard and end up dead.

With that in mind, Shirou prepared to eliminate the potential threat.

But the moment he released killing intent, the girl's eyes widened in fear—and she began to cry.

"D-Don't… kill me…"

She spoke, though her words were clumsy and her accent unnatural—like a mimicry of human speech.

Yet the meaning was unmistakable.

"The monster… can talk?"

Shirou was dumbstruck.

Looking closely, he realized the girl's trembling body had no hostile aura at all—just a scared child with nearly no clothes.

What is going on?

Shirou grew more confused, but knew he couldn't leave her there.

He walked over, draped his coat over her shoulders, and used Amphisbaena's dragon scales to treat her wounds.

The material's healing properties slowly began to mend her injuries.

"T-Thank… you…"

She spoke again, eyes full of gratitude.

"You're welcome."

Shirou could no longer see her as a mere monster.

Whatever she was, he decided to take her in and not let her be abandoned.

But before he could act—

A group of adventurers suddenly stormed toward him.

It was the unfamiliar group from earlier.

They surrounded Shirou in an instant—clearly here for the dragon girl.

"Finally found it!" The adventurers showed savage smiles on their faces. Looking at the dragon girl was like looking at glittering gold coins, their expressions full of eagerness.

"We're going to strike it rich this time. Selling such a rare dragon girl will definitely bring in a huge profit."

"A huge profit?" Shirou looked at the greedy adventurers and frowned.

"You're trafficking monsters?"

"Who the hell are you? Get lost if this has nothing to do with you, or else you're dead!"

The leading adventurer seemed to be Level 3. He looked at Shirou with cold eyes and, without the slightest hesitation, drew his weapon.

However, Shirou was faster.

Shirou casually projected a sword, blocked the opponent's slash, then launched a powerful kick that sent the Level 3 adventurer flying.

He grabbed the man's head mid-air and smashed it hard into the ground.

"Gahhh... P-Please don't kill me!"

In just a brief exchange, the Level 3 adventurer recognized the massive difference in strength between them.

At the same time, the surrounding adventurers, upon seeing Shirou project a weapon, instantly realized his identity.

Terrified, the group of adventurers knelt and begged for mercy:

"Y-You're the Sword Demon? S-Sword Demon-sama! We didn't mean to offend you!"

By now, the Sword Demon's name was widely known throughout the dungeon.

Fueled by all kinds of exaggerated rumors, his reputation was enough to strike fear into anyone.

Thus, this group of previously arrogant adventurers completely lost the will to resist the moment they realized the man before them was the Sword Demon. They all started begging for their lives.

"If you want me to spare you, then tell me who you are."

Shirou wasted no words and directly interrogated them.

The terrified adventurers dared not hesitate and scrambled to confess everything.

It turned out, they were members of the Ikelos Familia.

Although the Ikelos Familia wasn't classified as an evil faction in Orario, they operated on the darker fringes of legality, similar to the Ishtar Familia.

This was because the Ikelos Familia was engaged in a business that society could not openly tolerate—monster trafficking.

They captured monsters from the dungeon, transported them through secret channels to the surface, and sold them to wealthy clients both inside and outside of Orario.

Some wealthy individuals with perverse tastes had a fetish for monsters and would pay large sums of money to buy them, creating a gray market industry in monster trafficking.

Originally, the scope of their business was limited. After all, despite monsters being exotic, they were unintelligent creatures, and people eventually grew bored of them.

However, at some point, the Ikelos Familia discovered an anomaly in the dungeon—monsters that possessed intelligence.

These creatures had human-like thought processes and could communicate fluently with people.

Such unique beings caused a sensation in the monster trade. Wealthy clients who had grown tired of ordinary monsters became feverishly obsessed with these intelligent monsters.

As a result, the Ikelos Familia began capturing these intelligent monsters in large numbers and made an enormous fortune from them.

They even gave them a name: Xenos.

The dragon girl beside Shirou was one of these Xenos—and an extremely rare humanoid monster. It was said that she alone could be sold for tens of millions of valis!

"Capturing and trafficking Xenos…"

Upon learning of the Ikelos Familia's actions, Shirou's face twisted in disgust.

He could easily imagine what kind of torment and abuse the poor dragon girl would suffer if she had fallen into their hands. Her fate would have been utterly tragic.

Many people might think that monsters were different from humans, and that trafficking them wasn't a big deal.

But to Shirou, if a monster has intelligence, it is no different from a human.

Thus, what the Ikelos Familia was doing was no different from human trafficking.

And in any civilized society, traffickers—if not executed—should at least be sentenced to life imprisonment. Shirou had no sympathy whatsoever for these villains.

"Trace On."

"I'll grant you a painless death."

Seeing countless swords manifest behind Shirou, the Ikelos Familia members were horrified.

"Noooo!!!"

But no matter how miserably they struggled and screamed, Shirou's projected swords rained down mercilessly and slaughtered all the members of the Ikelos Familia present.

He showed no mercy in moments like this.

Otherwise, more Xenos would suffer.

To kill in order to save—though a fragile justification—it was a mindset Shirou had long since accepted.

He was willing to abandon everything in order to pursue the justice in his heart.

"Don't worry. I won't hurt you."

Shirou glanced at the dragon girl trembling beside him.

Now that he knew she was an intelligent Xenos, of course he wouldn't harm her. The question was, what to do with her now.

Should he bring her to the surface?

Or just leave her here?

After a brief moment of thought, Shirou knew he had no other choice—he would have to temporarily take her to the surface and figure things out from there.

"Will you come with me?"

Shirou extended his hand toward the dragon girl.

The girl looked panicked, like a small frightened animal. She cautiously poked her head out and eventually nodded.

With her consent, Shirou picked her up and wrapped her tightly in his coat, making sure no one could tell she was a monster.

Only then did he head for the surface with her in his arms.

But a few minutes after Shirou left the scene, a black-robed figure silently appeared in the seemingly empty area.

This person had apparently witnessed everything Shirou had done to rescue the dragon girl, and now stood silently, staring in the direction he had gone. A heavy aura radiated from them.

"The Sword Demon has made contact with a Xenos?! This is bad—this must be reported to Ouranos immediately!"

Muttering to himself, the black-robed man hurried away toward the surface.

However, what he didn't expect was that after he left, Shirou emerged from the shadows nearby.

When rescuing the dragon girl, Shirou had already noticed the black-robed figure. But since he didn't sense any hostility from the person, he didn't attack.

After pretending to leave, Shirou had projected Hassan's dagger and used Presence Concealment to return stealthily.

As a result, he heard the black-robed man's muttering—and was completely shocked to discover the person was connected to Ouranos, Orario's highest-ranking deity.

"That guy is Ouranos' follower? Ouranos knows about the Xenos?" Shirou showed a contemplative expression.

"Why is he so concerned about the Xenos?"

Shirou didn't think the black-robed man had been following him and accidentally discovered his interaction with the Xenos.

If that were the case, he would never have noticed the man in the first place.

So, the black-robed man was probably already tracking the dragon girl, observing her state—only for Shirou to unexpectedly interfere and rescue her.

But why would Ouranos send someone to monitor the dragon girl?

She's just an intelligent monster, right?

Or is there a deeper secret behind the existence of the Xenos?

For a moment, Shirou felt deep suspicion toward the god Ouranos. It was hard to believe that Ouranos' interest in the Xenos came from any sense of goodwill.

Because if Ouranos truly wanted to help the Xenos, he should have sent someone to rescue the dragon girl when she was injured, not waited until after Shirou saved her to react.

This illogical behavior made Shirou instinctively suspicious of Ouranos.

"What is this god who created Orario really planning?"

Wearing a deeply doubtful expression, Shirou sighed heavily.

He didn't attack the black-robed man, as he had no intention of opposing Ouranos, at least not for now.

Not until he dealt with the evil factions and cleared the darkness that plagued Orario.

But once he had resolved those problems, Shirou might have to reconsider whether Ouranos was an ally or an enemy.

Ending his thoughts about Ouranos, Shirou returned to where he had placed the dragon girl.

Even though he had only been gone a short while, her face was already filled with obvious unease and panic, and even tears welled in the corners of her eyes.

The moment Shirou reappeared, her face immediately lit up with a smile. She clung tightly to the hem of his coat and murmured in broken speech:

"Papa... Papa..."

"???"

Shirou was stunned that the dragon girl would call him that.

But he quickly realized that she was like a newborn child, and would instinctively see the nearest dependable presence as a parent.

However, Shirou clearly had no intention of being anyone's father, especially not to a dragon-girl monster child.

But for now, he had no other choice. He picked up the young dragon girl and temporarily accepted the responsibility of raising her.
